Summary of this 4x4 Safari

A Fantastic 4x4 small group Land rover Safari to South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana. This Safari has it all!

We start our Safari in South Africa's Kruger National park in search of Africa's "Big 5" before heading over the border into Mozambique.

We will spend out time in Mozambique both along the coast, where its all about the white sand beaches and water activities including whale watching and diving, and the National Parks in the interior of this tropical wonderland.

We then will head over the border into Malawi where we explore the land of "Africa's friendliest People". The highlight been and the fresh water Lake Malawi with its white sand beaches.

We then visit the land locked country of Zambia where we will visit one of Africa's top National Parks, the South Luangwa National Park as well as a visit to one of the seven wonders of the World " The mightly Victoria Falls". Here you will be able to partake in a number of adventure activities such as white water rafting, elephant back Safaris and a Lion Encounter to name a few.

We then head across the border into Botswana and on to one of Botswana's premier reserves, the Chobe National Park, home to some of the largest heards of Elephants in Africa. Its then a slow journey South where our journey of a lifetime comes to an end in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Itinerary for this 4x4 Safari

DAYS 1 & 2  Kruger National Park

We depart from our Guest Lodge in Johannesburg and head east for our first wildlife adventure.

We enter the Kruger National Park and head for our base for the night. After setting up camp we depart in search of the wildlife for which this park is so famous. We hope to capture the big five - lion - leopard - buffalo - elephant - rhino.  After early breakfast we resume our search, often spending long periods waiting for that special moment at waterholes or in the bush. Not only the lion, the raptors and the small creatures will fascinate all wildlife enthusiasts.

DAY 3 Transfronteir National Park

We pack up camp, load the landy and conduct a morning game drive in the Kruger National Park en route to our next adventure. 

On cross the border between South Africa and Mozambique at the Giriyondo border post we continue our endeavour in the Transfronteir National Park - the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique. This area is totally uncommercialized, a birding paradise and we camp the night at the community campsite on the shore of Massinger dam

DAY 4 Chidenguele

We travel to the coastal area Chidenguele, where we set up camp and relax after the taxing off-road travel through the Transfronteir Park. Here we check into our bungalows and set out to explore the area. Spend the afternoon relaxing and tonight our first Mozambique  seafood feast in the camp restaurant.

DAYS 5 & 6 Praia do Tofu

Today head north through Inhambane to Praia do Tofu, our base for two nights is a tropical resort called Mango Beach Lodge. The Indian ocean is magic, full of sea life and the opportunity to dive and snorkel the famous Mozambique reefs is a must.. enjoy long walks on the white beaches or a game of volley ball. Maybe even just relaxing at the beach bar, reading or writing to those unfortunate friends back home.

DAYS 7 & 8  Morrungulo

Today we visit Old World Africa. Inhambane, one of the oldest European settlements in Southern Africa. We spend an extensive period exploring the Afro-Arabian culture mix, historic buildings and 200-year-old cathedral. A short journey on to Morrungulo, our tropical paradise camp for the next two nights. Time off in Morrungulo on the endless deserted beaches, where the coconut palms meet the ocean. The clear warm Indian Ocean is ideal for snorkelling and diving. Whale watching trips are organized in season. All diving excursions can be booked at the campsite. (Excursions own expense)

NB: Look out for the falling coconuts!

DAY 9 Inhasorro

After a lazy start we travel on to Inhasorro, a pristine beach lodge across from the Islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago. We get the opportunity to interact with the local folk this afternoon, and find out how they pass their time in Africa. 

Tonight a  seafood feast in a local hotel

DAY 10 Gorrongosa National Park

Its farewell to the beach sand and inland we head towards Mozambique’s Premier game Reserve. Gorrongosa National Park. 

We set up camp and enjoy fantastic birding opportunities in the park.

This is wildest Africa at its best.

DAY 11 Gorrongosa National Park

We rise with the sun and set out in search of the wildlife endemic to this area. Lion, Leopard, Elephant and Buffalo are some of the exciting species found herein. 

After our drive / walk we return for a hard earned brunch. Late afternoon finds the group out in the wilds once more.

DAY 12  Tete

We leave Gorrongosa National Park and transverse dense bush land broken by many granite outcrops and local thatched villages. Cross the mighty Zambezi River on a suspension bridge to camp in a small third world mission campsite in Tete. Meet the local villagers tonight.

DAY 13 & 14 Lake Malawi

After border formalities, we enter Malawi, the "Warm Heart of Africa" and head for the "Lake of Stars”. Lake Malawi, the final lake in the Great Rift Valley of Africa. 

The lake covers one third of the area of Malawi and is the lifeblood of the Malawi people. Camp on the white beaches of the Lake in a pristine campsite..  The morning is spent at a major craft market purchasing exotic masterpieces, carved in Ebony. A fine example is the Malawian Chair. You could lose yourself amongst the secretive coves of the bay enjoying the warm African sun, cool clear water and the cry of the fish eagle.

Tonight enjoy a meal in a local restaurant.

DAY 15 South Luangwa National Park

Early shopping in Lilongwe to re-stock supplies and finally it is time for wildlife in the South Luangwa National Park. This park is the ultimate game park in Zambia and is rated as one of the greatest National Parks in Africa.

After a strenuous drive, our campsite on the Luangwa River, bordering the National Park, is reached. The evening is spent around the fire listening to the wild sounds of Africa.

DAY 16 South Luangwa National Park

The absolute highlights of this safari are the game drives in an open 4x4 game-viewing vehicle in the pristine wilderness of South Luangwa National Park. We will do an extensive early morning game walk in search of the diurnal animals, hoping to observe elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and a great variety of antelope species. This Park has over 400 species of birds and, for those who enjoy birding; the Reserve will fulfil many expectations. Return to camp for breakfast and siesta. We board the game-viewing vehicle in the late afternoon for an exciting night drive. Here we search for the nocturnal animals. The elusive leopard, a species for which this park is famous, might appear in our spotlight. The nocturnal animals we hope to find include Lion, Hyena, Civet, Genet and the Birds of the night.

Enjoy our restaurant dinner whilst we share the excitement of the game drive experience. 

The local guide will surely be rewarded for his efforts, dedication and knowledge that he has so humbly shared with us.

DAY 17 Luangwa River Bridge

Leaving the Luangwa Valley today we make our way back to the great east road and onto a local campsite called Bridge camp overlooking the Majestic Luangwa River. (Harsh Road conditions).

Relax after the strenuous drive and share a beer with the local people. Enjoy the Rural Zambian Culture.

DAY 18 Lusaka

Midday finds us in the bustling city of Lusaka, where we have the chance to restock and enjoy civilization as we have come to know it. The late afternoon is spent enjoying the swimming pool and bar in our campsite.

DAY 19 and DAY 20  Victoria Falls

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls in Zambia, is our destination for the next two days. We have the opportunity to enjoy the myriad of adventure activities that are offered at the falls, be it Bungi Jumping, Rafting the mighty Zambezi, Elephant back riding and Micro or Ultra light flights over the Smoke that Thunders.

DAY 21 Chobe National Park

On crossing over the Zambezi on a ferry into Botswana, we make our way to the Chobe National Park. We camp next to the park on the banks of the Chobe River. In the afternoon we do a boat cruise into the Chobe N.P., an area that abounds with Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo and many Antelope species. We hope to find the Puku Antelope, an antelope endemic to the Chobe floodplains. The park contains a multitude of aquatic bird species and the visitor is sure to observe the majestic Fish Eagle or the acrobatic Bee-eater.

DAY 22 Francistown

After breakfast we cross the migration corridor between Hwange in Zimbabwe and Chobe in Botswana, hoping to add to our long list of sightings. Lunch is spent at an oasis in the Makgadigadi Saltpans. We explore the pans in the afternoon in search of Flamingos and Pelicans. Camp the night in a beautiful campsite in Francistown.

DAY 23 Khama Rhino Sanctuary

We travel the short distance towards Khama Rhino Sanctuary, a tranquil haven lying beneath huge Mongongo Trees. Khama is home to 33 of Botswana's last remaining Rhinos and to several other mammal species, including the elusive Brown Hyena. 

After a period at the poolside we enjoy our last afternoon game drive through the Kalahari Sandveld, along the pans' edge. Relax in the evening on our last magic period in Africa.

DAY 24 Johannesburg

The final journey. On leaving Botswana today, we make our way down into South Africa through the Northern Province of the country, reaching the “City Of Gold” in the late afternoon. The tour ends this afternoon upon arrival in the Johannesburg.

Enjoy an evening reminiscing about the incredible journey.
