4 Day Pilanesberg Camping Safari

The  4-day Pilanesberg Camping Safari is a budget safari in South Africa that visits Pilanesberg National Park starting and ending in Johannesburg. This South African trip includes:

Day 1: Johannesburg to Pilanesberg National Park – South Africa

On day one of this budget Pilanesberg Camping Safari we depart from Johannesburg at about 07:00am arriving at Pilanesberg National Park shortly after 09:00am.

We set off on our first game drive in Pilanesberg, stopping for a picnic lunch at one of the beautiful rest spots in the park.

A slow drive takes us back to the safari camp where we set-up camp for the night and spend time relaxing and swimming. In the afternoon we take a 3-hour game drive before returning to camp, just before the Pilanesberg National Park gates close.

Back at camp there is time to rest before dinner, prepared by the guide. After dinner we sit around the campfire taking in the sounds of the African bush under starry skies. Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner.

Day 2 and 3: Pilanesberg National Park – South Africa

Rising early on day two we start the day with a cup of coffee or tea and some biscuits before heading into Pilanesberg National Park on our morning game drive. Morning drives often offer the best opportunity for excellent game viewing, with sightings including lions still activate after the previous nights hunt.

After a few hours of game viewing, we pause for a hearty cooked breakfast picnic overlooking the ancient volcanic hills in the park. We then return to our safari camp for a well-deserved break. This free time can be spent swimming, visiting the bird aviary or on an excursion to Sun City and the Valley of Waves. The optional excursion to Sun City takes a few hours and is at an extra cost. Optional activities also include a scenic hot air balloon ride and elephant rides.

After a light lunch, we take another game drive in the Pilanesberg returning to the safari camp after a few hours. We go on an exciting night drive in an open safari vehicle in the evening. On the night drive we spend about 3 hours after sunset searching for nocturnal animals with spotlights. A trained parks ranger guides the night game drives.

We return to the safari camp after our night game drive in time to be served a delicious meal. The evening is spent around the campfire taking in the sounds of the African bush and relaxing under the bright night stars. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Our third day on this budget safari is similar to the first, we rise early for refreshments and enter the park shortly after sunrise to enjoy a morning game drive. We stop within the Pilanesberg National Park for a cooked breakfast before returning to camp to rest during the heat of the day. In the afternoon we venture into the park for another afternoon game drive. We return for a tasty meal served in the camp site under African skies. Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 4: Pilanesberg National Park to Johannesburg – South Africa

On the last day of the Pilanesberg Camping Safari we wake up just before sunrise and have a quick tea or coffee and some biscuits, before heading out on our morning game drive in the Pilanesberg National Park. There is also the option of taking a self-guided safari walk in the wilderness area at the safari camp to get up close to the African bush and see a variety of wildlife on foot.

We stop at a picnic spot inside Pilanesberg Park to enjoy a big cooked breakfast, overlooking the beautiful African bush. We return to the safari camp to pack up, departing for Johannesburg by around 12:00pm. Along the way we visit one of the biggest local art and craft markets in the area, stopping for about an hour look at the African crafts and shop. After shopping and grabbing a quick bite to eat we continue the short drive to your final accommodation stop of choice.
