7 Day Botswana Budget Safari

This Budget Botswana Camping Safari takes you game viewing in top Botswana wildlife areas, including Chobe Park, Moremi Reserve and the Okavango Delta.

The affordable Botswana Safari package starts with a relaxing sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River where you enjoy some excellent game viewing.

Then we visit the unique Makgadikgadi Pans for a memorable night of camping in this barren and surreal landscape. Next we travel into the watery Okavango Delta system for a night of bush camping to explore the delta on foot and by traditional Mokoro canoe. A scenic flight over the intricate delta channels is included in the safari price.

Lastly this camping safari goes in search of the abundance of African wildlife found in the world-class Moremi Game Reserve, before returning to Kasane where our Botswana Safari adventure began.

Day 1: Kasane to Chobe National Park - Botswana

Arriving at our safari campsite in Kasane near Chobe National Park in Botswana, you will meet your fellow travellers and tour guide, who will give you a short tour briefing.

At the start of this Budget Botswana Camping Safari your guide also gives you a quick lesson on how to set up your tent, which will be your home for the next 7 days on safari. 

Our wildlife adventure begins in the afternoon with an exploration of the Chobe National Park as we cruise along the river game viewing from a riverboat.

This boat cruise provides fantastic game viewing opportunities with the Chobe river front being world famous for its large elephant and buffalo herds, crocodiles, and wild cats, as well as prolific birdlife.

After our rewarding game viewing boat cruise we return to our safari campsite and prepare our evening meal. We spend the evening around the campfire getting to know our fellow travelers and sharing stories from the first exciting day of game viewing in Chobe Park.

Day 2: Chobe Park to Makgadikgadi Pan - Botswana

This morning we get up early for breakfast, before embarking on an optional Game Drive in Chobe National Park (at extra cost).

Then we leave the Chobe Park area making our way south to the unique Makgadikgadi Pans, the worlds largest salt pans covering an area the size of Belgium.

The completely flat and barren Makgadikgadi area is a rare sight, a white vegetation-free expanse, fringed with plant life. This immense uninhabited space stretches as far as the eye can see, under endless blue skies. In the wet months the Makgadikgadi Pan attracts huge numbers of Flamingo and other migratory water birds.

If possible we spend the evening camping in this rugged and surreal landscape.

Day 3: Makgadikgadi Pan to Maun - Botswana

We take an early morning walk on or along the edges of the vast salt pans. Then we break camp leaving the mesmerizing Makgadikgadi Pans and heading to the frontier town of Maun where our overnight safari Camp is located.

On arrival at the safari camp we will be welcomed and given another tour briefing and the chance to chat about the safari activities lying ahead for the next few days. Dinner is provided in the bar and restaurant at the safari camp.

Day 4: Okavango Delta - Botswana

A quick breakfast is served at the campsite, before we travel into the Okavango Delta in a 4x4 safari vehicle.

At the river's edge we are met by local people from a community in the area and transfer our luggage onto the traditional canoes used as transport on the delta.

We continue our journey by Mokoro, the low flat-bottomed canoe used locally. Mokoro excursions are an ideal way of viewing the magical Okavango Delta System, gliding through the network of delta channels and waterways.

The delta mokoro excursions are cultural tourism at its best, as we spend time with the local people who share the stories of their lives and proudly introduce you to the beauty of their home – The Okavango Delta.

In the cool hours of the afternoon we set out from our bush camp by Mokoro or on foot, lead by our friendly hosts. Exploring the delta by canoe or on bush walks we hopefully experience close encounters with zebra, giraffe, elephant, jackals, antelope and the prolific birdlife found in this watery wilderness. On occasion we may also sight lion, leopard, buffalo, wild dog, bat-eared fox, hyena and other species.

In the evening you get to relax around the campfire with your new companions, listening to the sounds of the untamed African bush around you.

Be prepared…if our Botswana hosts perform a song for you they will be expecting one in return!

Day 5: Delta to Maun - Botswana

It's up early for those who want to take one last bush walk, before cruising along the crystal clear waterways of the Okavango Delta back to our pick up point. We arrive back in Maun, the gateway to the Delta, at around noon and spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool, and bar at camp. Dinner this evening will be served in the camp Restaurant.

On day 3, 4 or 5 of this Budget Botswana Safari you will have the opportunity to experience a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta. This scenic flight gives you a birds eye-view of the intricate delta channels and roaming wildlife below and is included in the tour price.

Day 6: Maun to Moremi Game Reserve - Botswana

We depart from Maun early in the morning passing through traditional villages en route to Moremi Game Reserve. Entering via Moremi's South Gate we drive into what is undoubtedly one of the top wildlife destinations in Africa.

At the end of the day we leave the Moremi Game Reserve and return to our Safari Camp for an evening meal served in the camp restaurant.

Day 7: Moremi to Kasane - Botswana

After an early breakfast  at camp we drive back to the town of Kasane near Chobe, where this Budget Botswana Safari trip ends. 

On the safari trip back to Kasane we stop to give you the opportunity to purchase your own lunch (extra cost). All going according to plan we should be back in Kasane by around 4pm.

About Moremi Game Reserve

This gem of a National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, has won a number of important distinctions.

It has been voted the ‘best game reserve in Africa’ by the prestigious African Travel and Tourism Association. 

It is the first reserve in Africa to be established by local residents concerned about the rapid depletion of wildlife. 
Moremi Reserve is considered one of the most beautiful reserves in Africa, possibly in the world and forms part of the Okavango Delta. It consists of seasonal pans and permanent swamps covering an area in excess of 4800 square kilometres.

The Moremi Reserve makes for spectacular game viewing and bird watching, including all major naturally occurring herbivore and carnivore species in the region.

Not forgetting over 400 species of birds, many migratory and some endangered. Plus…. both Black and White Rhino have recently been successfully re-introduced to the area making the reserve a ‘Big Five’ destination. 

We game drive in Moremi throughout the morning before stopping for lunch. There is time to relax and stretch our legs, before carrying on again through this amazing area.
