Itinerary for this Budget Camping Safari

DAY 1:  Windhoek to Etosha National Park – Namibia

At the start of the Bushman and Delta Camping Safari your safari guide will collect you in Windhoek, from where you head north to Etosha National Park. On our first night in Etosha we camp at either Okaukuejo or Halali camp, both of which have a floodlit waterhole for 24-hour game viewing. Elephant and black rhinoceros are seen daily during the dry winter months and numerous other game such as leopard and lion also visit the waterholes. Tourist facilities at both camps include a restaurant, a basic shop and a swimming pool.

Etosha National Park, one of Africa's top game reserves, is dominated by a vast salt pan. Etosha Park is named after this dry lakebed, with the name meaning 'great white place of dry water'. Etosha is home to 340 bird species and over 100 mammal species, notably the endangered cheetah and black rhino, as well as black-faced impala, tsessebe, roan antelope and gemsbok.

(Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 02: Etosha National Park – Namibia

We take a leisurely morning and afternoon game drive through Etosha Park today, taking in the wide-open expanse of the Etosha Pan. The flat green surface of this dry lakebed stretches out under the hot African sun, offering spectacular stark scenery and glimpses of ostriches amongst the shimmering mirages. In the afternoon we have time to relax at our Etosha camp taking a swim in the pool or watching the wildlife at the watering hole.

Our next overnight stay is at either Halali or Namutoni camp. The northern parts of the Namutoni area, on the eastern side of the Etosha pan, are known for the large number of plains game found there. High concentrations of waterbirds also inhabit the area during the wet season, including flamingos. Other species found in the Namutoni part of Etosha include leopard, cheetah, lion, kudu, giraffe and damara dik dik.

(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 03: Etosha Park to Tsintsabis – Namibia

After breaking up camp we depart Etosha Park, taking a short game drive on our way out.

Our next campsite is located in the bush close to the village of Tsintsabis. The village runs a community based and sustainable tourism project focussing on the history and culture of the Bushman (San) people, Southern Africa's earliest inhabitants.

In the afternoon we embark on a bush walk with a local guide to gain a deeper understanding of the traditional relationship between the Bushman people (and still have sometimes) and nature. Learn about edible, poisonous and medicinal plants and get a glimpse of the hunting methods used by the Bushman tribes, such as setting up traps and making fire in the bush. The bush walk is the ideal opportunity for getting a close up look at the traditional way of life of the Bushmen.

(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 4: Tsintsabis to Delta Panhandle – Namibia

After breakfast we head more north towards the Kavango River, stopping in the dusty town of Rundu to stock up with fresh supplies. Our next camp is situated on the Kavango River; this is the panhandle of the Okavango Delta on the Namibian side. The afternoon you can relax, take a dip in the world’s only crocodile swimming cage or play some Frisbee golf.

(Meals Included: Breakfast)

DAY 5: Okavango Delta Panhandle – Namibia

On day 5 you will have the opportunity to see plenty of game and bird life, as well as having a cultural experience.

After breakfast you will spend a whole day exploring the waterways of the Okavango Delta Panhandle on a Mokoro/Watu. The excursion takes place on the river system heading into the Bwabwata National Park on a mokoro, big enough for two passengers. The Head Mokoro Poler will explain the safety considerations and tell you what to expect on your mokoro trip. You will then be poled through the tranquil channels of the river. On our way back to camp we take a game drive keeping an eye open for wildlife.

(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 06: Delta Panhandle – Namibia to Kasane – Botswana

After breakfast we continue through the Caprivi Strip, stopping in the town of Katima Mulilo along the way. We will cross into Botswana and make our way to the town of Kasane. Kasane is the “gateway” to Botswana's famous Chobe National Park. We camp on the riverbed of the Chobe River.

(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 07: Chobe National Park – Botswana

Today starts with a pre-dawn wake up, followed by a quick coffee, before jumping on an open safari vehicle. We head off into the Chobe National Park for a 2-hour game drive in search of big herds of elephants, lions, antelopes and lost more, before returning to camp for brunch prepared by your guide. The rest of the day is spent relaxing around the pool at camp and in the evening we take a 2 hour sunset cruise on the Chobe River getting up close to various wild animals and birds.

(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

DAY 08: Kasane to Livingstone – Zambia

After a leisurely breakfast we pack up camp and make the short journey to the ferry, that crosses over into Zambia. Upon arrival a private transfer will drop you off at your accommodation in the adventure capital of Zambia, Livingstone. The Bushman and Delta Camping Safari ends at Livingstone on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.

(If you have not made your own accommodation bookings in Livingstone, either tented or room accommodation at the Zambezi Waterfont can be arranged).
