The 8-day Bushman and Delta Camping Safari starts in Windhoek and ends in Livingstone on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. Highlights on this affordable Namibia and Botswana camping safari include:
This budget camping safari visits Etosha National Park, the Okavango Delta Panhandle and a San Bushman Village in the Kalahari of Namibia, as well as the Chobe National Park in Botswana.
At the start of the Bushman and Delta Camping Safari your safari guide will collect you in Windhoek, from where you head north to Etosha National Park. On our first night in Etosha we camp at either Okaukuejo or Halali camp, both of which have a floodlit waterhole for 24-hour game viewing. Elephant and black rhinoceros are seen daily during the dry winter months and numerous other game such as leopard and lion also visit the waterholes. Tourist facilities at both camps include a restaurant, a basic shop and a swimming pool.
(Meals Included: Lunch, Dinner)
We take a leisurely game drive through Etosha on day 10, taking in the wide-open expanse of the Etosha Pan. The flat green surface of this dry lakebed stretches out under the hot African sun, offering spectacular stark scenery and glimpses of ostriches amongst the shimmering mirages. The northern parts of the Namutoni area, on the eastern side of Etosha pan, are known for the large number of plains game found there. High concentrations of waterbirds also inhabit the area during the wet season, including flamingos. Other species found in the Namutoni part of Etosha include leopard, cheetah, lion, kudu, giraffe and damara dik dik.
(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breaking up camp we depart Etosha park, taking a short game drive on our way out. Travelling south we continue to our next camp in the Kalahari stopping over in the old mining town of Tsumeb. Along the way we visit the world’s largest known meteorite, the Hoba Meteorite, located near the town of Grootfontein. We arrive at our campsite and set up camp after visiting the Hoba Meteorite. After setting up camp we take an 80km drive to a traditional Bushman Village to meet the local San Bushman tribe. The San Village runs a community project, that enables us to meet the San tribe and take a guided walk with a San tracker. The tracker will show us some of the ways these hunter-gatherers survive in the Kalahari. In the late afternoon we return from our cultural experience to our overnight camp. If there is no time to visit the Bushman Tribe on day 3, we will visit the village on the following morning.
(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast we head more north towards the Kavango River, stopping in the dusty town of Rundu to stock up with fresh supplies. Our next camp is situated on the Kavango River; this is the panhandle of the Okavango Delta on the Namibian side. The afternoon you can relax, take a dip in the world’s only crocodile swimming cage or play some Frisbee golf.
(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
On day 5 you will have the opportunity to see plenty of game and bird life, as well as having a cultural experience. After breakfast you will have a whole day off to explore the Okavango Delta Panhandle on a Mokoro/Watu. The excursion takes place on the river and into the Bwabwata National Park on a mokoro, big enough for two passengers. The Head Mokoro Poler will explain the safety considerations and tell you what to expect on your mokoro trip. You will then be poled through the tranquil channels of the river. On our way back to camp we take a game drive keeping an eye open for wildlife.
(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast we continue through the Caprivi Strip, stopping in the town of Katima Mulilo. We will cross into Botswana and make our way to the town of Kasane. Kasane is the “gate way” to Botswana's famous Chobe National Park. We camp on the riverbed of the Chobe River.
(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Today starts with a pre-dawn wake up, followed by a quick coffee, before jumping on an open safari vehicle. We head off into the Chobe National Park for a 2-hour game drive in search of big herds of elephants, lions, antelopes and lost more, before returning to camp for brunch prepared by your guide. The rest of the day is spent relaxing around the pool and in the evening we take a 2 hour sunset cruise on the Chobe River.
(Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After a leisurely breakfast we pack up camp and make the short journey to the ferry, that crosses over into Zambia. Upon arrival a private transfer will drop you off at your accommodation in the adventure capital of Zambia, Livingstone. The Bushman and Delta Camping Safari ends at Livingstone on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.
(If you have not made your own accommodation bookings in Livingstone, either tented or room accommodation at the Zambezi Waterfont can be arranged).
