This 6-day Tanzania safari starts and ends in Arusha, combining Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park. This cheap camping safari in Africa, offers excellent game viewing and real African safari adventure.
This budget camping safari starts with lunch in Arusha town on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley in northern Tanzania.
After lunch we set off for the freshwater, Lake Manyara, where baboons, hippos, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes can be spotted. We enjoy our first evening game drive in the Lake Manyara National Park, which is also home to tree climbing lions, flamingos and various other bird species. We settle in at the safari campsite for dinner and our overnight stay in the small village of Mto wa Mbu near Lake Manyara.
On day two we depart Mto wa Mbu village and head for the world renowned Serengeti National Park taking picnic lunches with us.
The afternoon is spent on an exciting game viewing drive across the endless plains of the Serengeti, best known for the Great Migration. The game drive in open safari vehicles provides the opportunity to witness great herds of roaming wildebeest, zebras and gazelles and even lions. We return to the safari camp for dinner and overnight in tents in the famous Serengeti of Tanzania.
On day three of this Northern Parks Tanzania Camping Safari we spend the entire day game viewing in the Serengeti National Park, which covers an area of 12,950 sq km. After a satisfying day of game viewing at one of the best wildlife safari destinations in the world we return to the overnight camp set in the Serengeti National Park.
We leave the vast Serengeti National Park behind us, driving via Olduvai Gorge to the Ngorongoro Crater area. Olduvai Gorge, known as the Cradle of Mankind, is the geological site famous for the archaeological discoveries first made by Louis and Mary Leakey. These renowned fossil findings include some of the earliest known remains of man's ancestors.
After picnic lunch at the historic Olduvai Gorge we continue the drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We have dinner and overnight at a safari campsite near the Ngorongoro Crater.
Today we descend 2000 ft (over 600 m) to the base of the world's largest volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater, for a half-day safari tour. We explore the 260 km² (102 sq mile) crater floor, home to nearly every wildlife species found in East Africa. The Ngorongoro crater has an estimated population of 25,000 animals including herds of zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest. The crater is also home to Africa's "big five" - rhinoceros, lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo.
Our Ngrorongoro game viewing safari takes us to wooded forest areas inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area, where flamingos can be spotted and the African savannah or grasslands where lions prowl. In the afternoon we return from our wildlife safari to the bush camp for lunch. We then drive to Karatu where we have dinner and camp overnight in tented safari accommodation.
After breakfast on day six, we head for the Tarangire National Park and set off on an afternoon game drive with picnic lunches. The Tarangire National Park is best known for its numerous baobab trees and population of tree-climbing lions. On today's wildlife safari drive we also get the chance to see lesser kudu, eland and gerenuk in this scenic Tanzanian game park. At the close of the last full day on this unforgettable African safari we head for camp where we have dinner and unwind
On our final day we return to Arusha after breakfast at the Tarangire National Park safari camp. In Arusha we enjoy lunch at a local restaurant bringing the Tanzanian camping safari to a close.
