This morning we travel from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, on the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit. Here we embark on the first thrilling game drive of our affordable Tanzania Safari Tour.
Your guide takes you in search of the abundant wildlife and birds found in this compact Tanzania national park. Along the way, we pause to enjoy a picnic lunch in the wilderness.
Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons, and seasonal flamingo flocks. This scenic national park also hosts large herds of buffalos and elephants, as well as plenty of zebras, wildebeest, giraffes and various antelopes. Lake Manyara is a birding hotspot, hosting a high diversity of bird species, including numerous waterbirds.
After your first exciting game drive, you head to our 4 to 5-star safari lodge near Lake Manyara National Park for dinner and your second overnight stay in Tanzania.
After breakfast, we travel from Lake Manyara to the world-famous Serengeti National Park.
Our drive takes us via the world-renowned Olduvai Gorge. Here, you have the option (at extra cost) of visiting the Olduvai Museum and Gorge. This famous archaeological site is where fossils of our earliest human ancestors and their tools were unearthed. Then you have the option (at extra cost) of visiting a Maasai village to meet Kenya's best-known ethnic group, the semi-nomadic Maasai tribe.
We then proceed to Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's top safari destination and one of the best national parks in Africa. Entering Serengeti, we embark on our first game drive in this legendary African game reserve. This game drive takes us to our 4 to 5-star safari lodge in Serengeti's central region, renowned for its outstanding wildlife sightings.
Spend the whole of day four game viewing in the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania! This guided Serengeti Safari is one of the top highlights of our Tanzania Safari Tour & Zanzibar Holiday.
In season, your guide will take you to see the spectacular Wildebeest Migration of Africa (peaking in June and July). Throughout the year, your full-day Serengeti Safari provides excellent opportunities to see the Big 5 of Africa. We mainly explore the central Serengeti area, famed for its outstanding leopard sightings and excellent game viewing. Central Serengeti is also one of the best areas for seeing rhinos, rarely found in other Tanzanian parks.
The largest national park in Tanzania, Serengeti National Park is about 14 760 km² (5699 mi²) in size. This unique African game reserve hosts an awe-inspiring abundance of large mammals including masses of herbivores such as elephants, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, topi, buffalo, and hartebeest among others. The Serengeti Park is also a predator hotspot, renowned for its exceptional big cat (lion, leopard and cheetah) populations.
During our full-day Serengeti Safari, you can choose to return to the safari lodge for a hot/cooked lunch or take a picnic lunch with you on your game drive.
At the end of an adventure-packed day on safari, we return to our luxurious 5-star safari lodge inside Serengeti National Park.
Day five begins with breakfast at our safari lodge in the heart of Serengeti National Park. Then we embark on a rewarding morning game drive on the Serengeti Plains, teeming with wildlife. Enjoy the classical African safari setting of open savannahs dotted with thorn trees and rocky outcrops, as we explore.
At about midday, we stop for a picnic lunch in the shade. After lunch, we leave Serengeti Park and head for the final safari destination on our Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar Holiday Package, the Ngorongoro Crater.
Our drive takes us through the Malanja Depression and various Masai villages to the renowned Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Our next 4 to 5-star safari lodge is located on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater overlooking this lovely caldera. We arrive at the lodge in time for dinner followed by a relaxing evening recounting our wildlife adventures on the Serengeti Plains.
After breakfast, we descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for an epic six-hour game drive in this exceptionally wildlife-rich African game reserve.
The world's largest unflooded caldera, Ngorongoro Crater hosts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Almost every large mammal species of Africa is represented here and commonly sighted on game drives, from black rhino to spotted hyena. The crater is home to the Big Five of Africa. It is one of the best places to see rhinos on safari in Tanzania, as well as lions, buffalos and elephants.
While on our game drive in 'Africa's Garden of Eden' as the Ngorongoro Crater is known, we stop to enjoy a picnic lunch. In the mid-afternoon, we make our way out of the crater and drive to our next ideally-located safari lodge. We spend the last night on the Tanzania Safari part of our tour at a 4 to 5-star lodge in the scenic Great Rift Valley, near Lake Manyara National Park.
On day seven of this Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar Holiday Package, we travel from our Lake Manyara lodge to Arusha after breakfast.
The last leg of our safari in Tanzania takes us via the beautiful Great Rift Valley. Along the way, we pass through the rural villages of Mto wa Mbu and Makuyuni, gaining insight into local life in Tanzania. At about midday, we arrive in Arusha where your guide drops you off at the airport. Say goodbye to your Tanzania safari guide and get ready to catch your included flight to Zanzibar Island, departing at 13h30.
This short flight takes you to the main island of the Zanzibar archipelago, called Unguja Island or simply Zanzibar. Upon arrival at the Zanzibar International Airport, at about 15h30, you are met by our friendly driver/guide. From the airport just south of Zanzibar City, the capital of Zanzibar, you are transferred to our 5-star beach resort on the east coast of the island.
After a 1 hour 30 minute drive, we arrive at the beach resort on the east coast of Zanzibar Island. Your Zanzibar Holiday Package includes an all-inclusive stay at one of two 5-star beach resorts at Kiwengwa Beach or the Pingwe area.
Time to relax and take it easy after your early mornings on safari in Tanzania. The next four days of your Zanzibar Holiday Package are free for you to enjoy the idyllic beaches, luxurious beach resort and fun optional activities at your own pace.
Spend your days relaxing on the white sand beaches of Zanzibar and swimming in the warm Indian Ocean. Indulge in spa treatments at the resort, swim in the pool, explore the lush gardens, sip on sundowners and feast on fresh seafood.
The islands of the Zanzibar Archipelago are famous for their idyllic tropical beaches and are known as the Spice Islands, for the exotic spices grown here. Visit the spice plantations to smell, see and taste the brightly coloured and aromatic spices, such as turmeric, ginger, black pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon.
There are also numerous optional activities to choose from at the beach resort, including watersports and cultural tours. Options include boat trips to the smaller islands of the archipelago, scuba diving trips, dhow sailing excursions, and fishing trips. Snorkelling and scuba diving are popular activities in Zanzibar due to the rich marine life found here. A day tour of the old quarter in Zanzibar City, the historic Stone Town, is highly recommended. Or visit a fisherman village to see how the locals live.
After breakfast on day 12, you can relax at the beach resort until it is time for you to transfer to the airport. Store your luggage at the beach resort once you have checked out of your room at 10h30 and continue enjoying the resort facilities.
When it is time for your airport transfer our driver collects you at reception and drives you to the Zanzibar International Airport, where this fantastic Tanzania Safari Tour & Zanzibar Holiday Package comes to a close.
Please note that the Wildebeest Great Migration is seasonal. As a natural wildlife phenomenon, it is fluid and unpredictable. For this reason, seeing the Great Migration cannot be guaranteed.
The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between Masai Mara in Kenya and Serengeti in Tanzania. These herds move in a massive circular route covering some 1200 miles (1931km). It is a continuous movement of wildlife that can be seen in different areas at different times of the year. During certain phases of this annual trek the animals disperse or slow down, whilst at other times the migration picks up speed, with the herds becoming larger and denser. Not only does the Wildebeest Great Migration vary from place to place and season to season but the movement of these large wildlife herds varies from year to year.
Please talk to a travel expert from African Budget Safaris about seeing the Wildebeest Great Migration on your safari to find out more. Also, check out our detailed article about the Great Migration in Serengeti and Masai Mara.
