Durban has the largest Indian population descendants of indentured labourers who came in the 1860's to work on the sugar cane fields. It is also the city where Mahatma Gandhi started a political career that eventually led him to great prominence in the struggle for independence in India.

The wealth of influences will entertain and enthral you with traditional warrior dancers, mystic firewalkers and colonial heritage. Durban offers you the unique vibrancy of township life, the finest curries outside India and a calendar filled with thrilling, spectacular events.

Accommodation:

You will spend your nights in one of 3 centrally located Backpackers in Durban. ( Depending on availability). The Backpackers we have selected are all of exceptionally high quality. Each backpackers has a choice of shared dorm room, single room or twin/double rooms. The backpackers are well located in terms of Durban's nighlife. Each backpackers has a great entertainment area, internet facilities friendly staff. Each of the Backpackers is secure from a safety aspect. You will be made to feel at home!

Durban City Tour.

Spend +/- 5 hours exploring the city of Durban and its surrounding areas. This City tour will give you a full overview of this amazing city.

The tour will start around 09.30 - 10.30am in the morning. Your first port of call will be Warwick Street Junction, where over 300,000 African commuters come in daily by bus, taxi and foot to get to their places of employment or simply to do visit the city. You will visit Victoria Street Market where you will have an opportunity to visit the various stalls offering an array of Eastern products mainly driven by the Indian community. You will get a glimpse of how the informal sidewalk traders and shopkeepers trade in harmony.

 You next stop is the Marine Parade better known as the ‘Golden Mile'. You will drive approximately 6km's to get an appreciation of Durban's main beachfront and the history behind it. You will visit the Kwa Muhle Museum or Apartheid Museum, an absolute must if you interested in South Africa's unique and unjust apartheid history and the new order transformation. Other areas of interest covered during the city part of the tour will include, Bat Centre, Wilson's Wharf, Dick King Statue, City Hall, the Hare Krishna ‘Temple Of Understanding' and Merebank View Point.

You will then head out of the city for a drive through a nearby local township called Cato Manor, where you can see the stark contracts of a slum type settlement against the recent low cost housing project by the South African Government with some foreign donations from the European Union. Form here its back to the accommodation.

Full day Drakensberg - Sani Pass & Lesotho Tour

A full day tour out to the beautiful Drakensberg Mountain area combined with a visit to Lesotho and a scenic 4x4 drive down the magnificant Sani Pass. This is not only about the beautiful scenary but includes a cultural aspect in the form of a visit to the local Basotho Community in Lesotho.

You day will start early with a 05.30am departure from your accommodation in Durban. You will head west for the Underberg / Drakensberg region of Kwazulu Natal. We arrive in Undergerg at around 09:00am. Its at this point that we Hop onto a 4x4 to do the Sani Pass/Lesotho tour, an excellent opportunity to interact with the local Basotho community. This will give you an appreciation of their basic traditional lifestyle, lunch will be at the Sani Pass Chalet the highest pub in Africa. In the late afternoon we head back down the mountain pass arriving at Underberg around 15:30pm. Its then back on to Durban where we will arrive back at around 19.00pm
