TOUR DESCRIPTION

CULTURAL ‘RAINBOW CURTAIN’ TOUR
A cross-cultural voyage of discovery into the many facets of South African society. The tour begins in District Six – once the home to thousands of Capetonians of various hues and cultures, now a desolate wasteland following apartheid’s forced removals in 1966. The District Six museum is included in the tour and vividly portrays the people and their lifestyles through personal memorabilia and newspaper clippings from the time.
The tour then continues to the traditional township areas of Langa and Khayelitsha. Langa is the oldest formal black township in Cape Town. Witness first hand the living conditions and accommodation conceived at the height of the apartheid era. Khayelitsha is Cape Town’s largest informal settlement area. But in the midst of this poverty, visitors are able to discern the spirit of self worth and reconstruction that manifests itself in many aspects of township life. You may visit the now famous ‘Vicky’s B&B’, Rosie’s Kitchen (a local soup kitchen for the area’s children) or the local school. A visit to any one of these will leave you uplifted and inspired. This is a positive interactive morning tour that benefits both locals and visitors.
