Days 1 & 2: Moremi Game Reserve & Khwai River Area, camping (Botswana)

This Botswana Safari Camping in Okavango Delta & Chobe departs from a pre-arranged meeting point in Maun at 07h30 on day one. Your guide will meet you in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, from where you will drive to Moremi Game Reserve, one of Botswana's top game parks.

We spend the first two days exploring the Khwai River and Moremi Game Reserve area on game drives in search of the impressive array of wild animals and prolific birdlife found in this diverse Botswana game park. Moremi is considered one of the most beautiful game reserves in Africa covering the eastern part of the Okavango Delta where mopane woodland and acacia forests contrast with watery floodplains and lagoons.

The Khwai and Moremi area is home to elephants, especially numerous during the dry season, as well as buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyaena, and jackal. A wide variety of antelope species, including the rare red lechwe, are also found in the Moremi region, along with healthy populations of endangered African Wild Dogs.

During our stay in the Khwai River and Moremi region, we embark on game drives in the early mornings at sunrise and again in the late afternoons at sunset. Our early morning game drives are followed by lunch and a rest back at the mobile safari camp. We also enjoy game viewing from the fresh perspective of a mokoro excursion along one of the channels of the Khwai River, a tranquil and intimate wildlife experience in the Okavango Delta region.

We will be camping in the unspoiled wilderness at private safari camps with ensuite bush ablutions for every tent.

  • Travel on Day 1: Maun to Moremi/Khwai: 150km, 6h (including game drive)
  • Meals included: Lunch & Dinner (Day 1) / Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner (Day 2)

Days 3 & 4: Savuti & Zwezwe Area - Chobe National Park, camping (Botswana)

On day three of our Botswana Camping Safari, we leave Moremi and Khwai making our way northeast to Chobe National Park. The top national park in Botswana, Chobe boasts one of the highest densities of wildlife in Africa.

Botswana's most diverse wilderness area, the vast Chobe Park is best known for its large herds of migratory elephants. Next, our journey in search of wildlife takes us across the drier Savuti plains of Chobe. Savuti hosts one of Chobe's highest concentrations of wildlife and is renowned for its predators, including lion, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog.

The Savuti Channel is flowing again after a 30-year-long dry spell changing the natural landscape and supporting different species that have previously been unable to survive in the arid plains of Savuti. This exciting event has attracted large breeding herds of elephants as well as buffalos to the Savuti area.

We will camp in the wild at private campsites with ensuite bush ablutions for every tent.

  • Travel on Day 3: Moremi/Khwai to Savuti: 120km, 5-6h
  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Days 5 & 6: Chobe River - Chobe National Park, camping (Botswana)

We continue north to the Chobe River meandering along the banks of the river on our game drives as we look out for elephants, hippos, and buffalos, among other large animals. Also keep your eyes open for the rich birdlife of Chobe, including the African Fish Eagle.

The Chobe River Floodplain is an excellent game viewing area as the waters draw large herds of buffalo, elephant, zebra, and other herbivores, in turn attracting numerous predators. The sunsets in this region of Chobe Park are spectacular making for amazing photographic opportunities.

In Chobe National Park we will be camping at private camps in our tents with en-suite bush ablutions. The mobile safari camps selected for this Botswana Safari are remote and wild providing a real African bush experience.

  • Travel on Day 5: Savuti to Chobe River: 170km, 5h
  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Chobe to Kasane (Botswana)

The final day of our Botswana Camping Safari kicks off with a leisurely boat cruise on the Chobe River. Scenic boat trips are a memorable highlight of Chobe safaris as the park is renowned for its outstanding water-based game viewing. Enjoy your last chance to watch wildlife and birds in the wilderness of Botswana as you cruise along.

After our rewarding boat cruise on the Chobe River, we drive to the nearby town of Kasane. Here your guide can drop you at your post-tour lodge or the designated point for onward transfers. This excellent value-for-money Botswana Safari Camping in Okavango Delta & Chobe ends at 12h00 in Kasane, Botswana.

  • Travel on Day 7: Chobe to Kasane: 30km, 1,5h
  • Meals included: Breakfast

Child Policy

This tour does take children.

While the minimum age for guests on this scheduled safari is 12 years old, occasionally we may make exceptions during low season (November to June), or perhaps for children who have already travelled on an adventure holiday etc.

The safari camps are wild camp sites, in remote areas of Botswana and these camp sites are not fenced.  Animals do come through the campsite at night and it is important that children are able to listen to and follow the guide safety instructions for the different areas on safari.

The guides are highly professional and very experienced, so guests will be safe in their care as long as they abide by the safety rules.
