Accommodation on the Okavango Delta safari is in lodges, tented camps and hotels.
The 14-day Okavango Delta safari departs from Livingstone, Zambia, on the first day. Leaving Zambia we cross the Zambezi River on the Kazangula Ferry to Botswana where we head for our overnight lodge. The safari lodge is set on the banks of the Chobe River, forming the northern border of the renowned Chobe National Park. The Chobe area is famous for its rich wildlife and birdlife species as well as its scenic beauty.
Day two starts with an early morning game drive in the Chobe National Park, the second largest national park in Botswana. Chobe National Park boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the African continent, offering the African safari adventure of a lifetime.
In the evening we take a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River, considered one of the best boat based game viewing sites in the world. We overnight in a luxury safari lodge on the Chobe River banks in Botswana.
In the morning we leave Chobe, driving to the vast Makgadikgadi Pans via Nata. The dramatic Makgadikgadi Pans form the largest salt flat complex in the world, covering around 16,000 sq km (6,177.6 sq mi). Our overnight stay is in a safari lodge on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans. The lodge accommodation, set among giant Baobab trees, is styled on traditional Bakalanga huts with en-suite showers.
On day three we spend the afternoon exploring the Makgadikgadi Pans area around the safari lodge and the evening relaxing at the fireside in a semi-open Lapa.
We set off for Maun on day four, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch we take a short flight by light aircraft into the world famous Okavango Delta of Botswana. The flight takes 20 minutes and provides scenic aerial views of the delta's winding channels. The overnight camp is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta, a vast and untouched wilderness haven. Our Okavango accommodation is in permanent tents with shared ablutions.
We spend the next two days exploring the Okavango Delta and its maze waterways with a private guide. We explore the delta by mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe, and on foot giving us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in this remote wilderness area. Taking early morning and late afternoon outings ensures that we get to see the most game possible while in the Okavango Delta.
In the evenings we relax at our overnight camp to the sounds of the African wildlife in the delta. Our safari accommodation is in permanent tents with communal ablutions.
On day seven we leave the pristine Okavango Delta behind, returning to Maun by light aircraft. The remainder of the day is spent relaxing and rejuvenating after the once in a lifetime experience in the Okavango Delta. We overnight at a safari lodge in Maun.
We enter the Caprivi Strip on day eight and spend the night at a safari lodge camp overlooking the Okavango River. The lodge is set in lush vegetation in the Caprivi area, home to rich wildlife species, including the endangered wild dog.
We relax at the lodge enjoying an African sunset from the deck or taking a refreshing dip in the "river pool" at the lodge. Day nine is open for optional excursions at extra cost, including bird watching walks, game viewing drives, mokoro (dugout canoe) outings.
We continue along the narrow Caprivi Strip on day ten, spending two nights at a safari lodge overlooking the Kwando River. From the deck of the safari lodge both elephant and hippo can be viewed. The Kwando River forms the border between east and west Caprivi and borders the unspoilt Bwabwata National Park. In the afternoon we take a boat cruise and a game viewing drive in Bwabwata National Park, an excellent opportunity for sightings of the numerous wild animals in this untamed park.
We return to Livingstone in Zambia on day twelve of the Okavango safari, to visit the world famous Victoria Falls. This impressive waterfall, known as Mosi-oa-Tunya or The Smoke That Thunders, makes for a spectacular sight.
Days twelve and thirteen are spent in the Livingstone area, browsing the local markets at your leisure and participating in some of the many optional activities, at your own expense. The Victoria Falls area is considered Africa's adventure capital, offering adrenalin packed activities such as white water rafting, bungi jumping, microlight flying and airplane or helicopter flights over the Vic Falls. Other optional adventure activities include rhino viewing walks; elephant back safaris and visits to the Victoria Falls.
We overnight at a hotel or similar accommodation in the exciting hub of Livingstone.
The unforgettable Okavango Delta safari comes to an end after breakfast in Livingstone.
