Itinerary:
Day 1 Panoramic Route/Nyani Tribal Village, South Africa
After an early start we leave the city of gold and make our way through the Mpumalanga Province en-route to the Drakensberg Escarpment. We spend the day visiting the scenic sights along the Panoramic Route including: God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondawels at the magnificent Blyde River Canyon. From here we journey onto the Shangaan Tribal Village, where a guided tour gives us an insight into the culture and traditions of the local Shangaan people. We enjoy an exciting evening of tribal dancing, singing and a traditional African dinner. We overnight in traditional huts. (D)
Day 2 Kruger National Park, South Africa
Up at sunrise we travel a short distance to the Kruger National Park. Upon entering Kruger we begin our search for the many species of birds, mammals and reptiles that inhabit the Park. Kruger is home to a wide diversity of animals including Africa’s Big Five. Our game drive takes us to our campsite, where we board an open safari vehicle and head out on an exciting night drive. Evening to be spent camping within the Kruger Park. (BD)
Day 3 Kruger National Park, South Africa
An early morning game drive takes us along some of the best game drive routes that Kruger Park has to offer. Sunrise at a waterhole offers scenes straight out of National Geographic. The entire day is spent game viewing, bird watching and stopping off at the various waterholes en-route to our next camp. Evening to be spent relaxing around the campfire reminiscing about the day’s events. (BD)
Day 4 Makopane, South Africa
We venture out on our final game drive in the Kruger Park before heading towards the town of Makopane, where we overnight en-route to Botswana. (BD)
Day 5 Nata, Botswana
Leaving South Africa, we cross into Botswana. This vast, thinly populated country is one of Africa’s economic success stories due to its mineral wealth. After changing money into local currency, we continue to Nata, where we camp on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans. (BD)
Days 6 and 7 Livingstone / Victoria Falls, Zambia
We arrive in Livingstone and venture out on a sunset cruise
on the mighty Zambezi River. The following day is spent on
optional activities, including whitewater rafting, bungee
jumping, microlighting, jet boating or a ‘flight of
angels’. We explore the town, its markets and visit
the Victoria Falls. (BD)
Day 8 Chobe, Botswana
We depart from Livingstone and journey to Kasane where we
set up camp on the banks of the Chobe River. The afternoon
is spent relaxing or enjoying an optional game cruise on the
Chobe River. (BD)
Day 9 Maun, Botswana
Up at daybreak, we venture out on an open vehicle game drive
into the famous Chobe National Park. After breakfast, we depart
for Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. (BD)
Days 10 Okavango Delta, Botswana
We venture into the wilderness of the Delta; greeted by the
local guides in mokoros (traditional dugout canoes) we explore
the pristine waters of the Delta by Mokoro and enjoy game
walks in search of the abundant wildlife that inhabits this
oasis in an otherwise arid region. We set up camp on an island
in the Delta and enjoy our evenings under the African skies.
(BLD)
Day 11 Okavango Delta, Botswana
This is a unique opportunity to live under nature’s rules. Rising with the sun, we enjoy more poling on the mokoros, drifting silently through the channels. We also undertake game walks in the Delta, tracking different animals, learning their habits and understanding nature’s finer details. This is also a great opportunity to learn about the people of the area, each mokoro has a polar or local guide who grew up in the area and lives in the local village. These people work together in a community tourism initiative. After a breathtaking sunset, we relax around the campfire listening to the sounds the night has to offer. (BLD)
Day 12 Okavango Delta/ Leroo La Tau, Botswana
We leave behind the tranquillity and memories offered by the Delta on our last mokoro trip before transferring back to Maun. Our journey continues to Leroo La Tau Lodge “Spoor of the Lion” which is situated near the dry Boteti River. This special surrounding allows us to take part in activities such as game walks, accompanied by skilled guides or a visit to the site of the famous Bane's Baobab at the edge of Kudiakam Pan. (BD)
Day 13 Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Botswana
This morning we once again have the option to explore this area on various guided excursions before heading for the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, where we spend the evening camping within the Reserve. (BLD)
Day 14 Johannesburg
Today we drive through to Johannesburg, arriving in the early evening. (B)
