Bordering the Serengeti, the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles and is the world’s largest caldera. Often called the ‘eighth natural wonder of the world’ the crater's magical setting and abundant wildlife never fails to delight visitors.
Travelling via Tanzania's Arusha this Tanzanian Budget Camping Safari heads back to Nairobi in Kenya where your exciting African adventure comes to an end.
The Tanzanian Budget Camping Safari departs from Kenya's capital, Nairobi, in the morning. We travel south, crossing the border into Tanzania at Namanga.
On our first night we stay in a lovely campsite in Meserani, just outisde of Arusha. Tomorrow we will embark on our exhilarating Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater Trip.
This morning on our Tanzanian Budget Camping Safari we explore Arusha town or visit the Meserani Reptile Park and Masai Cultural Museum.
A stone's throw away from our campsite is a craft gallery with the brightly coloured and iconic Tinga Tinga paintings.
We have lunch at our safari camp, with Mount Meru in the distance, before meeting our Tanzanian guides and transferring into locally operated 4WD safari vehicles. These adapted safari vehicles are ideal for game viewing and allow for excellent photographic opportunities through the open roof hatches.
Setting off from the safari camp our journey takes us through the Masai town of Mtu Wa Mbu (Mosquito River), lying beside the Lake Manyara National Park. We continue up the Great Rift Valley Escarpment making our way to the village of Karatu, set higher in the hills. From Karatu we enjoy panoramic vistas over the surrounding landscape of bush and wheat farms.
Tonight we stay at a lovely campsite in Karatu village.
Today we get up early in the morning and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and explore the Ngorongoro Crater, teeming with wildlife.
The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken, unflooded caldera in the world, encompassing open savannah grasslands, acacia forests and both soda and fresh water lakes.
We take an exciting game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater, truly a miniature ‘Garden of Eden’. This crater is a World Heritage Site, boasting some of the best game viewing in Africa. Ngorongoro Crater game viewing opportunities include seeing the elusive Black Rhino.
After our game drive we travel down the Crater rim and pass the ‘Cradle of Mankind’ en route to the famous Serengeti National Park. We cross the open African plains on our game drive through the southern and central areas of the Serengeti Park.
Then we camp wild in the heart of the untamed bushveld, falling asleep to the sounds of the African wilderness at night. We are truly immersed in nature at this unfenced safari camp!
