We have various types of safaris that visit Uganda and take you mountain gorilla trekking, ranging in length from 4 to 56 days. Some of the Uganda safaris provide camping accommodation while others offer budget lodge accommodation or a combination of lodge and comfortable camping accommodation. Uganda is best known for its endangered mountain gorillas, therefore all of our safaris in Uganda include mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
When trekking mountain gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Forest the day typically starts with a hearty breakfast to provide an energy boost for trekking through the jungle. Before setting off into the undergrowth in search of the few remaining mountain gorillas clients register at the game ranger station and one of the rangers gives a talk on mountain gorilla trekking. Gorilla treks in Bwindi Forest are lead by trained safari guides who take you into the bush to track the rare mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking is challenging but rewarding and can take anything from 30 minutes to 5 hours, requiring a reasonable level of fitness and sturdy walking shoes. Once the gorillas have been spotted on a gorilla trek you get to sit in the forest with these giant primates and listen to them communicating with each another. Marvel at the size of the dominant Silverback males and find yourself spellbound by one of Africa's most poignant wildlife encounters. Lunch is taken with on the gorilla treks and enjoyed in the forest followed by a rest and some bird watching.
On Mountain Gorilla Trekking Safaris overnight accommodation is at a safari camp run by the local community. This camp is located next to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and was set up in 1993 to ensure that the local community benefits from tourism in the area. Accommodation is in clean, well-maintained bandas (huts) with solar powered lighting.
The Budget Lodge Safaris that visit Uganda offer a combination of accommodation in banda huts at a safari camp next to Bwindi National Park, in a guesthouse and in a safari lodge. These affordable lodge safaris provide comfortable accommodation on safari in Uganda at great prices.
Uganda Camping Overland Tours entail travelling by overland truck and stopping en route to camp under the African stars. The Uganda Camping Overland Tours tend to be longer tours throughout East Africa, generally visiting several other countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Malawi, South Africa and Zimbabwe. These camping tours require a level of active participation and teamwork and are well suited to the more adventurous traveller looking for the ultimate wilderness experience in Africa.
The Exclusive Overland Safari option takes in the highlights of Uganda, including the mountain gorillas, offering comfortable tented and lodge style accommodation. Exclusive Overland Safaris usually consist of smaller groups and require less participation from clients, offering more comfort. The canvas two man walk-in dome tents used on Exclusive Safaris are spacious, comfortable and well ventilated and a mattress is usually provided.
