The Zanzibar Archipelago is a group of small islands lying off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean, known for its white sandy beaches, exotic spices and the rich history. Most of our Zanzibar safaris visit the island of Unguja, where Zanzibar City and its old quarter, Stone Town, are located. The ancient Stone Town is a World Heritage Site for its cultural and historical value making it the cultural highlight of Zanzibar. In Stone Town you can see the blend of African and Arabic cultural influences that have shaped Zanzibar today. This ancient quarter consists of a network of winding alleyways featuring unique old buildings, lively bazaars, Arabic-style shops and mosques. The markets of Zanzibars capital, Unguja, are also worth visiting to experience the bustle of trading and the enticing aroma of spices.
Zanzibar Beaches & Activities
Zanzibar features palm-fringed, sandy white beaches that stretch on for miles, ideal for spending lazy days relaxing at the water’s edge or swimming in the tropical waters. Snorkelling and diving are popular activities on Zanzibar, reputed to offer some of the best diving in the world. The colourful coral reefs, variety of fish and rich marine life draw divers to explore the gentle waters.
In addition to scuba diving and snorkelling, Zanzibar offers activities such as deep-sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and sailing on traditional dhows.
