I started my career in the retail travel industry, and managed various branches of a National company, in the leisure, corporate and groups/special interest divisions. Then I woke up one morning to the “call of the bush”.
I went on a camping safari as a cook, and fell in love with the Okavango Delta, where I was lucky enough live for the next year. I lived in Maun, on the Thamalakane River, where I had antelope which came to “mow my lawn”, a fish eagle as my lookout, and an old hippo which came to patrol by garden at night.
It was also there where I met my future husband ... what a romantic place! My most exciting experience was while on the camping safari, when I decided instead of sleeping in my tent, that I would sleep under the stars on top of the vehicle. However during the night I was surrounded by a very vocal elephant herd, and didn’t get much sleep – but what a way to spend a night! In the morning, there was lion spoor around my tent – so perhaps there was a reason for my wanting to spend the night above ground after all!
For the next 8 years I worked for a company with safari camps throughout Southern Africa, so was fortunate enough to visit and work in areas such as Namibia, Botswana, Malawi and Zimbabwe & Zambia. I’ve also visited the beautiful Indian Islands of Mauritius, Reunion and Seychelles. My passion is for Africa, and my 2 most favorite places are the Okavango Delta for its serene beauty and slow pace, and the Namib Desert for its humbling timeless aura in its contrasts of color and wildlife.
My favorite bird is the African Jacana (also known as the lily-trotter), and my favorite animal is the mischievous Warthog! I love being African!
