Itinerary for this Tour

Tour Highlights:

  • 3 nights in Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
  • 3 nights in Chobe National Park, Botswana
  • 1 night at a lodge in Livingstone, Zambia

Days 1 - 3: Moremi Game Reserve, camping (Botswana)

This Botswana Camping Safari departs from a pre-arranged meeting point in Maun at 07h30 on day one.

Your guide will meet you in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, from where you will drive to Moremi Game Reserve, one of Botswana's top game parks. En route to Moremi we stop for a break and your guide briefs you one the safari adventure ahead.

We spend the first three days of this wildlife safari exploring Moremi Reserve on game drives in search of the impressive array of wild animals and prolific birdlife found in this diverse wilderness area of Botswana. Moremi is considered one of the most beautiful game reserves in Africa covering the eastern part of the Okavango Delta where mopane woodland and acacia forests contrast with watery floodplains and lagoons.

Moremi is home to elephants, especially numerous during the dry season, as well as buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal. A wide variety of antelope species, including the rare red lechwe, are also found in Moremi Game Reserve, along with healthy populations of endangered African Wild Dog.

During our stay in Moremi we embark on game drives in the early mornings at sunrise and again in the late afternoons at sunset. Our early morning game drives are followed by lunch and a rest back at the safari camp. On day three we shift to a new campsite in the Khwai River area, exploring a different part of the pristine Moremi Reserve. We camp in private campsites with bush ablutions in designated wilderness areas of the scenic Moremi reserve.

  • Day 1: Maun to Moremi Game Reserve - 150km / 6 to 7 hours (including game drive)
  • Lunch & Dinner (Day 1) / Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner (Day 2 & 3)

Days 4 - 6: Chobe National Park, camping (Botswana)

On day four we leave Moremi Reserve making our way north east to Chobe National Park, boasting one of the highest concentrations of game in Africa.

Botswana's most diverse wilderness area, the vast Chobe Park is best known for its large herds of migratory elephants. Next our journey in search of wildlife takes us across the drier Savuti plains of Chobe. Savuti hosts one of Africa's highest concentrations of wildlife within Chobe and is renowned for its predators, especially lion and hyena. We continue north to the Chobe River meandering along the banks of the river on our game drives as we look out for elephants, hippos and buffalos as well as rich birdlife including the African Fish Eagle. In Chobe we camp at remote and private campsites with bush ablutions. First we camp in the Savuti area for a night, and then we spend two nights in the northern part of Chobe, near the Chobe River.

  • Day 4: Eastern Moremi to Savuti - 120km / 7 to 8 hours (including game drive)
  • Day 5: Savuti to Chobe River - 170km / 5 to 6 hours (including game drive)
  • Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Days 7 - 8: Comfortable Lodge in Livingstone, chalet accommodation (Zambia)

We embark on a morning game drive in the Chobe area before taking a ferry across the Zambezi River into Zambia. Then we drive to Livingstone on the Zambian side of the mighty Victoria Falls (visa required), where we stay overnight at a comfortable lodge. On the last night of this Botswana Camping Safari dinner will be at your own expense at the lodge or out in Livingstone.

In the afternoon you can visit the famous Victoria Falls, one of Africa's top natural highlights. Witnessing Vic Falls, the largest curtain of falling water in the world, is an unforgettable experience. Marveling at the waterfall you will see why the local Kololo call it Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means "The Smoke that Thunders". You can also explore Livingstone, go curio shopping and enjoy optional activities at Vic Falls. Optional adventure activities in Livingstone include white water rafting and canoeing on the Zambezi River, visiting Livingstone Island, swimming in Devil's pool and taking scenic microlight or helicopter flights over Victoria Falls.

The truly wild African bush experience of the Chobe & Moremi Botswana Camping Safari officially ends after breakfast on day eight.

  • Day 7: Chobe River to Livingstone - 100km / 2 to 3 hours (including border crossing)
  • Breakfast & Lunch (Day 7) / Breakfast (Day 8)

Optional Extra Day:

This safari is also available as 9-day tour that spends extra time in the bush at the same price! This tour version offers an extra day in the Moremi Game Reserve area, at the start of the safari. Please contact African Budget Safaris for departure dates.

Please note:

The Chobe & Moremi Botswana Camping Safari starts at 07h30 on day one; therefore you will need to spend the night before the tour departs in Maun, and purchase drinks for your safari the day before the safari starts. We recommend an extra day or two after the safari in Livingstone at Victoria Falls to participate in some of the amazing adventure activities available. Post-tour accommodation, activities and transfers to Livingstone airport or lodges, Victoria Falls airport or lodges or Kasane in Botswana, can be arranged at an additional cost.

For assistance with pre-safari and post-safari accommodation and travel arrangements contact African Budget Safaris.

Tour Transport:

The vehicles used on this Botswana Safari are custom-built game viewing vehicles, designed for safari trips in the African bush. Each vehicle carries up to 12 passengers, ensuring excellent visibility on game viewing drives, as well as great movability in the wilderness. Throughout the safari we use a specially designed trailer unit containing a mobile kitchen and space for all of the camping equipment and luggage.

Tour Accommodation:

On this semi-participation safari we will be camping at bush campsites in 2.1m x 2.1m x 1.75m bow tents that are easy to set up (clients help to erect the tents). All windows and doors of the tents are fitted with treated mosquito netting. Each person will get a 5cm high-density foam camping mattress to sleep on while camping.

The bush ablutions consist of high-slung bucket showers and bush toilets with canvas screens for privacy. Round (200V/2pin) power units are available in the vehicles to recharge cameras and in Maun there are Internet cafes and photo shops that will download digital photos. In Livingstone we stay in rooms at a comfortable Zambian lodge.
