This 2 Day Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Budget Lodge Safari is ideal for those short on time and on a budget. The tour offers game viewing opportunities in a malaria-free reserve, that is home to Africa's Big 5.
This tours couples wildlife highlights with cultural encounters at the Lesedi Cultural Village, where pan-African cuisine, traditional South African song and dance, and a laid-back drink at the shebeen await.
Our tour ends in the vibrant city of Johannesburg, which is also well-worth exploring.
This Pilanesberg Lodge & Lesedi Cultural Safari departs from Johannesburg at about 11:00 am, arriving at our lodge near Pilanesberg National Park in time for lunch. We then have some free time to relax and enjoy afternoon tea, before embarking on our first game drive.
The afternoon game drive in Pilanesberg Park takes us in search of Africa's Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant) along with other wildlife. An open safari vehicle is used on the game drive, providing the best visibility for spotting wildlife and immersing you in the bush.
In the evening we tuck into a delicious dinner under starry African skies, or indoors (depending on the weather). Evening drinks can be purchased from the fully stocked bar, including an excellent selection of fine wines.
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
On the second day of this Pilanesberg & Lesedi Cultural Tour we wake up just before sunrise and have a quick tea or coffee and some light snacks, before setting off on our morning game drive in the Pilanesberg National Park. Many of the animals are at their most active in the early morning hours, making for rewarding game viewing.
We return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast, departing at about 12h00 for our next stop - the Lesedi Cultural village. Arrival at the lodge is in time for a feast of African flavours in the restaurant. The brightly-coloured restaurant is called Nyama Choma, meaning the Great African Feast. Lunch is a choice of African cuisine traditionally enjoyed in different regions on the continent - East, North and South Africa.
The buffet spread includes unusual meat dishes, such as ostrich and even crocodile. After a satisfying lunch in the authentic restaurant you can unwind with a drink at Ma Thabeleng’s Shebeen. The shebeen is an informal type of local bar that is usually found in South African townships. Later in the afternoon, at around 16:30, we encounter the diverse people of Lesedi, getting to know about their different customs and cultural beliefs. Visiting the boma (reed enclosure) of this Ndebele village, we are treated to a traditional South African song and dance performance. This unique opportunity is all the more memorable, because guests are drawn into the lively singing and dancing, creating an interactive cultural experience.
Leaving the cultural village we drive for about an hour to reach Johannesburg. Arriving at 20:00 we drop you off at your post-tour accommodation in Johannesburg. We recommend our friendly, four-star lodge near the airport.
Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
