The 3-Day Budget Pilanesberg & Lesedi Cultural Tour, which starts and ends in Johannesburg, combines the Big Five Pilanesberg National Park and the vibrant Lesedi Cultural Village.

Our South African Wildlife Safari includes exploring Pilanesberg National Park in open safari vehicles, on morning and afternoon game drives. On the last day we visit the Lesedi Cultural Village to taste the flavours of Africa, feel the lively rhythms and experience the colourful cultures.

We stay in luxury en-suite accommodation at a lodge located on the outskirts of Pilanesberg.

This budget lodge safari is well suited to families with young children, as the distances travelled are short and Pilanesberg is a malaria-free game reserve.

Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Johannesburg to Pilanesberg National Park – South Africa

Leaving Johannesburg at about 11:00 on this Pilanesberg Lodge & Lesedi Cultural Tour we arrive at our lodge near Pilanesberg National Park in time for lunch. After lunch we are free to relax, enjoy afternoon tea and then embark on our first thrilling game drive.

We set off in search of Africa's Big 5, lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant, along with other wildlife. We travel in an open safari vehicle ideal for great visibility and absorbing the sounds and smells of the bush.

Back at our lodge a delicious dinner is served, weather permitting, under an African night sky, littered with stars. Evening drinks can be purchased from the fully stocked bar, including an excellent selection of fine wines.

  • Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner.

Day 2: Pilanesberg National Park – South Africa

We are up early and after a reviving cup of coffee or tea and snacks, we set out on a game drive. This is the best time of day for game viewing, as the animals are on the move eating and drinking before the heat of the day drives them to seek shade and rest. Often there are sightings of lions still on the move after the previous night's hunt.

After our exciting start to the day we return to the lodge for a well deserved, mouth watering breakfast. Then there's time to relax, nap, read, swim or have a pampering spa treatment until it's time for lunch at 14:00.

Lunch is followed by an afternoon game drive that continues into the early evening, for as the sun sets darkness falls quickly and the nocturnal animals are on the move.

Returning to the safari lodge, we freshen up and then enjoy a tasty al fresco dinner. The evening is spent around the campfire taking in the sounds of the African bush, recollecting the day’s wildlife sightings and relaxing under starry skies.

  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 3: Pilanesberg & Lesedi Cultural village to Johannesburg – South Africa

We set out early again on this, our last day, after some refreshing tea or coffee and snacks. After a rewarding game drive, viewing the animals at their most active, we return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast.

Departing from the lodge at about 12h00 we make our way to our next stop - the Lesedi Cultural Village. Arrival at the lodge is in time for a feast of African flavours in the restaurant. The brightly-coloured restaurant is called Nyama Choma, meaning the Great African Feast. Lunch is a choice of African cuisine traditionally enjoyed in different regions on the continent - East, North and South Africa.

The buffet spread includes unusual meat dishes, such as ostrich and even crocodile. After a satisfying lunch in the authentic restaurant you can unwind with a drink at Ma Thabeleng’s Shebeen. The shebeen is an informal type of local bar that is usually found in South African townships. Later in the afternoon, at around 16:30, we encounter the diverse people of Lesedi, getting to know about their different customs and cultural beliefs. Visiting the boma (reed enclosure) of this Ndebele village, we are treated to a traditional South African song and dance performance. This unique opportunity is all the more memorable, because guests are drawn into the lively singing and dancing, creating an interactive cultural experience.

Leaving the cultural village we travel to Johannesburg, a drive that takes about an hour. At around 20:00 we drop you off at your post-tour accommodation in Johannesburg, bringing this unforgettable 3-Day Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Budget Lodge Safari to a close. We recommend our friendly, four-star lodge near the airport.

  • Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch
