The 5-Day Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Budget Lodge Safari combines the Big Five Pilanesberg National Park and Lesedi Cultural Village, starting and ending in Johannesburg.
This Cultural and Wildlife Budget Lodge Safari is ideal for families with young children, as the travel distances are short and Pilanesberg is a malaria-free game reserve.
This Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Budget Lodge Safari departs from Johannesburg at about 11:00 am, arriving at our lodge near Pilanesberg National Park in time for lunch. We then have some free time to relax and enjoy afternoon tea, before embarking on our first game drive.
The afternoon game drive in Pilanesberg Park takes us in search of Africa's Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant) along with other wildlife. An open safari vehicle is used on the game drive, providing the best visibility for spotting wildlife and immersing you in the bush.
In the evening we tuck into a delicious dinner under starry African skies, or indoors (depending on the weather). Evening drinks can be purchased from the fully stocked bar, including an excellent selection of fine wines.
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner.
On day two of our safari in South Africa, we rise early and have a refreshing cup of coffee or tea and snacks, before entering the game park. Morning game drives often offer the best opportunities for game viewing, with sightings of lions roaming after the previous nights hunt and diurnal animals beginning to stir in the bush.
After our morning game viewing adventure, we return to the lodge for a mouth-watering breakfast, followed by leisure time. Take a dip in the swimming pool, nap and unwind, or treat yourself to a pampering spa treatment.
Lunch at 2:00pm is followed by an afternoon game drive in Pilanesberg Park. We explore the game park into the evening, looking out for the nocturnal animals that emerge as the day fades into night.
We return to the safari lodge after our sunset game drive in time for a tasty al fresco dinner. The evening is spent around the campfire taking in the sounds of the African bush, recollecting the day’s wildlife sightings and relaxing under the bright night stars.
Day three and four of this accommodated safari are similar to day two. We enter the Pilanesberg National Park shortly after sunrise to embark on a morning game-drive and return to the lodge for breakfast and free time to rest during the heat of the day. In the afternoon we head out into the game park for an afternoon game drive in search of more wildlife, returning to the lodge for dinner under starry skies.
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
On the last day of the Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Budget Lodge Safari we wake up just before sunrise and have a quick tea or coffee and some light snacks, before setting off on our morning game drive in the Pilanesberg National Park. Many of the animals are at their most active in the early morning hours, making for rewarding game viewing.
We return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast, departing at about 12h00 we make our way to our next stop - the Lesedi Cultural Village. Arrival at the lodge is in time for a feast of African flavours in the restaurant. The brightly-coloured restaurant is called Nyama Choma, meaning the Great African Feast. Lunch is a choice of African cuisine traditionally enjoyed in different regions on the continent - East, North and South Africa.
The buffet spread includes unusual meat dishes, such as ostrich and even crocodile. After a satisfying lunch in the authentic restaurant you can unwind with a drink at Ma Thabeleng’s Shebeen. The shebeen is an informal type of local bar that is usually found in South African townships. Later in the afternoon, at around 16:30, we encounter the diverse people of Lesedi, getting to know about their different customs and cultural beliefs. Visiting the boma (reed enclosure) of this Ndebele village, we are treated to a traditional South African song and dance performance. This unique opportunity is all the more memorable, because guests are drawn into the lively singing and dancing, creating an interactive cultural experience.
Leaving the cultural village we travel to Johannesburg, a drive that takes about an hour. At around 20:00 we drop you off at your post-tour accommodation in Johannesburg, , bringing this unforgettable 5-Day Pilanesberg Malaria-Free Budget Lodge Safari to a close. We recommend our friendly, four-star lodge near the airport.
