Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Maun to Mboma Island Camp, Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

This Fly-In Botswana Safari begins with a scenic flight from the Maun airport to Xakanaxa airstrip near Moremi Game Reserve. The short flight takes you over Botswana's prime wilderness area, the Okavango Delta, in a small fixed-wing plane. Watch for roaming wildlife below as you fly to the north-western tip of Moremi Game Reserve. From the airstrip, your guide drives you to the nearby Mboma Island Camp.

When you arrive at the tented safari camp there is time for you to freshen up and enjoy some light snacks and drinks, before embarking on your first game drive. The game drive is conducted in an open-sided safari vehicle inside the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. This is the only official protected area in the Okavango Delta hosting abundant wildlife across its diverse habitats. The area near the safari camp is known for its abundance of lions and other big cats, so keep your eyes peeled. Other wild animals in the area include wild dogs, elephants, buffalos, hyenas, and more. After sunset we make our way back to the safari camp, looking out for nocturnal animals as we drive into the night.

Back at camp, we tuck into a tasty dinner in the dining tent. Then you can sit back around the flickering campfire under the stars - the perfect way to end off your first day on safari in Botswana.

  • Travel: Flight from Maun to Xakanaxa Airstrip & road transfer to Mboma Island Camp
  • Activities Included: Sunset game drive in Moremi Game Reserve
  • Meals: Light snacks and drinks & Dinner

Day 2 & 3: Mboma Island Camp, Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

Wake up early on the morning of day two and soak up the pristine bush scenery of Botswana. Start your day with a fresh coffee and light snack before we set off into the wilderness.

This morning's safari activity is your choice of a game drive, mokoro trip, or boat cruise (subject to water levels). Early mornings are ideal for bird watching and wildlife spotting as many of the birds and animals are most active first thing in the day. While out exploring the untamed wilderness of Botswana, we will stop for a coffee break out in nature.

For the game drive, you'll head into Moremi Game Reserve in the open-sided safari vehicle which provides unobstructed views of the wildlife and wilderness. The open-sided safari vehicle is ideal for taking photographs and immersing you in the African bush. Your experienced safari guide shares his or her vast knowledge of the bush with you as you explore, making for a fascinating wildlife experience.

On a mokoro trip, you will be poled through the watery channels of the Okavango Delta in a traditional-style dugout canoe. A local guide stands in the back of each canoe and moves it through the water using a long pole, like a gondolier. You get to sit back and relax while taking in the untamed surroundings as you gently glide along. The third option is to take a boat cruise on the tranquil lagoons and winding delta channels. Boat trips are only conducted when the water levels are high enough. This is a great way to see more of the Okavango Delta during or after the rainy season.

After our morning's adventures out in the bush, we return to the safari camp where hot bucket showers await. After freshening up we have a late breakfast in the dining tent followed by free time to rest and take it easy at the tented camp. Later on this afternoon, we embark on another game-viewing adventure of your choice. As darkness falls we return to the lantern-lit camp looking out for nocturnal creatures along the way. Back at the safari camp, hot bucket showers await, followed by a delicious dinner. Then it is time to unwind around the glowing campfire under starry skies.

Day three follows a similar itinerary with your choice of safari activities (mokoro trip, game drive, or boat ride) at the remote Botswana safari camp.

  • Activities Included: Morning & afternoon safari activities (mokoro trip, game drive, or boat ride)
  • Meals: Morning snacks and coffee, Brunch & Dinner (x2)

Day 4: Mboma Island to Camp Savuti, Chobe Park – Botswana

We are up bright and early on day four of our Tented Botswana Safari tour. Start your day with a refreshing coffee and light snacks at the safari camp overlooking the delta floodplains.

Then we take a short drive to the Xakanaxa airstrip and board our light aircraft for the short flight to Camp Savuti. Arriving in the western region of Chobe National Park, your guide is there to collect you and drive you to Camp Savuti. When you reach the tented safari camp on the banks of the Savuti Channel, your host welcomes you and provides an introductory briefing.

Then it is time for a scrumptious lunch followed by free time to settle into your spacious safari tent. Later in the afternoon, you'll head out on your first game drive in the famous Savuti Marsh area of Chobe Park. This region of Botswana is world-renowned for its predator sightings and high concentrations of large game. While out in the wildlife-rich bush, we stop for sundowners and admire another beautiful African sunset in the wild.

After sunset, we continue our search for wildlife and birds as we return to our tented safari camp for dinner. After dinner, you can ease into a laid-back evening around the campfire in the open-air boma.

  • Travel: Flight and road transfers from Mboma Island Camp to Camp Savuti
  • Activities Included: Sunset game drive in Savuti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Camp Savuti, Chobe National Park – Botswana

As is customary on safari in the African bush, we get up early this morning. Perk up with a fresh coffee and light snacks before we venture back out into the wilderness in search of wildlife.

We explore the Savuti Marsh region on our game drives in open-sided safari vehicles. This region is world-famous for its exceptional game viewing so get ready for a rewarding wildlife adventure! Savuti is known for its numerous lions, African wild dogs, and hyenas, as well as hosting cheetahs, leopards, zebras, and various kinds of antelope.

Our game drive ends back at the safari camp where a tasty full breakfast is served. Breakfast is followed by leisure time to soak up the wild setting at camp and enjoy the views from your own small deck.

Later we have lunch and rest then we have tea at camp and embark on an afternoon game drive. Back out in Chobe National Park, we pause for our scenic African sunset, sundowners in hand. Then we return to the tented safari camp, game viewing en route. Tonight we have a special dinner out on the deck and unwind around the campfire under the stars.

  • Activities Included: Morning & sunset game drives in Savuti
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Camp Savuti to Chobe Mopani Forest Lodge – Botswana

On day six of your Fly-In Botswana Safari, say goodbye to Camp Savuti and return to the nearby airstrip. Your next scenic flight takes you east to Kasane, the closest town to Chobe National Park. Arriving at Kasane airport, a driver from our final safari lodge collects you and transfers you to the lodge.

Chobe Mopani Forest Lodge lies inside Kasane Forest Reserve. This lesser-known protected area is tucked away between Chobe National Park and the Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe. Our eco-friendly lodge looks out over an active waterhole where elephants and other animals are regularly seen. Settle in and enjoy a drink while you watch for wildlife at the waterhole. The safari lodge is best known for the abundance of elephants found here. The game reserve is also home to giraffes, buffalos, and an array of small animals. On a full-day game viewing drive, you'll cover more ground and see more of the diverse habitats of Chobe National Park. The full-day game drives are conducted in open 4x4 safari vehicles and include a picnic lunch out in the bush. The combination of game drive and Chobe River boat cruise gives you the chance to experience the superb water-based game viewing and bird-watching for which Chobe is famous. With this option, you can take either a sunrise or sunset boat cruise along Chobe River and a 3-hour game drive in open 4x4 safari vehicles.

Either way, you'll enjoy a memorable wildlife adventure in Chobe, one of Africa's finest national parks. Chobe National Park is home to a high concentration of animals and birds. With a bit of luck, you'll see plenty of wildlife, including numerous elephants. Keep an eye out for African wild dogs, leopards, buffalos, lions, impalas, zebras, antelopes, crocodiles, and hippos.

About Mboma Island Camp in Moremi Game Reserve

Mboma bush camp is located in the northwestern part of Moremi Game Reserve - a pristine and remote area of the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana. The bush camp is unfenced, so wildlife roams freely here. Thus, guests enjoy an authentic African safari experience immersed in the wilderness of Moremi.

Mboma Island Camp is set in the natural vegetation consisting of fan palms, Jackalberry trees, and sausage trees. The camp is surrounded by the waterways of Godikwe Lagoon and looks out over the floodplains of the Okavango Delta. Thanks to its location, where the delta waterways and Moremi savannahs meet, the camp serves as an ideal base for both land and water-based activities. The Mboma Boat Station is a short walk from the camp and the nearest airstrip is Xakanaxa.

This is an eco-friendly camp that runs on solar power. Camp facilities include an open-sided dining tent, an inviting lounge tent, and an open-air boma with a campfire. The camp features five Meru-style safari tents with en-suite bathrooms. These spacious tents are fitted with mosquito netting and have large doors and windows for enjoying nature. The open-air bathrooms are fitted with eco-toilets, bucket showers, and standing washbasins. The tented suites are simply, yet stylishly furnished and decorated in neutral tones with splashes of vibrant color. Touches of rustic luxury, tea and coffee stations, and high-quality linens ensure that guests enjoy a comfortable stay in the middle of the bush. Each tent has a small canopy-covered verandah with two camping chairs and a table. The tents are set apart in the bush to provide privacy and are connected by lantern-lit pathways.

The area of Moremi around the camp is known for its abundant lion prides. Cheetahs and leopards are also often sighted in the area, along with wild dogs and both spotted and brown hyenas. Elephants and red lechwe are often spotted from the camp as they roam the floodplains. Other wildlife often seen in Moremi includes buffalos, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, and hippos. The birdlife in this part of the world is spectacular, ranging from raptors and larks to waterbirds.

About Camp Savuti in Chobe Park

Camp Savuti is a semi-luxury tented camp on the banks of the Savuti Channel in Chobe National Park. This tented safari lodge is located in the remote Savuti region, away from the crowds of the Chobe riverfront area.

Camp Savuti looks out over the Savuti Channel, where wildlife and birds gather. This enigmatic river flows and dries up mysteriously. In recent years it began to flow again after a dry spell of about 30 years transforming this arid region of Chobe and attracting an abundance of wildlife.

This eco-friendly tented camp is located in a prime game-viewing area, where large prides of lions once hunted elephants. In addition to its large lion prides, the Savuti Channel hosts numerous African wild dogs, buffalos, other wildlife, and abundant birdlife. The main activities at this authentic Botswana safari camp are early morning and late afternoon game drives in the diverse and wildlife-rich Chobe Park, as well as bird watching and stargazing.

Accommodation at the tented eco-camp is in spacious canvas tents with en suite bathrooms fitted with flush toilets and bush showers. There are five tented suites positioned to provide privacy. These tented suites feature raised decks looking out over the dense bush and channel. The main lounge, bar, and dining areas of Camp Savuti also overlook the Savuti Channel. Facilities at the tented safari camp include a plunge pool and outdoor boma with a fire pit.
