Day 1 & 2: Maun to Deception Valley & Central Kalahari - Botswana

Arriving in Maun, a Delta Air representative will assist you with boarding the small plane for the short flight to Deception Valley Lodge, in the Central Kalahari Region of Botswana. Our half-hour flight takes us to the lodge's private airstrip, a 15-minute drive from the lodge.

We spend the first two nights at Deception Valley Lodge, located within a private reserve covering 15000 hectares of wilderness, bordering on the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

Enjoy various activities at the lodge, including bush walks and night game drives in the private reserve, featuring an extensive road network. The Kalahari is ideal for tracking lions and leopards, as their tracks can be seen in the sandy earth. In the private reserve, we are able to follow animal tracks off-road and continue searching into the night. The lodge is known for its outstanding Kalahari (San) Bushmen experiences, as one of the owners grew up with these unique people in the Kalahari. Some of his Bushman friends live on the reserve and can take you walking in the bush to discover more about this harsh habitat and how the San have survived here for thousands of years.

Find out how these hunter-gatherers once survived in the semi-arid desert, using the local flora and fauna for rituals, natural medicines and sustenance. This seemingly barren land is surprisingly rich in life, providing resources in the form of fruits, berries, tubers, barks, herbs and flowers. Exploring the Central Kalahari area on game drives and walks gives us a chance to spot the fascinating mammals, birds, reptiles and insects found here, learning more about these hardy species as we go.

About Deception Valley Lodge

One of the very first lodges established in this remote area, Deception Valley Lodge is set in a beautiful spot, looking out over a watering hole in the private reserve. The lodge features indoor and outdoor spaces to relax and dine, a swimming pool for cooling off during hot African days, and satellite internet access. There are eight suites at Deception Valley Lodge, ensuring an intimate and secluded experience in the Kalahari of Botswana. These spacious suites consist of a bedroom, separate lounge area and en-suite bathroom with a vintage-style bath and outdoor shower.

Day 3 & 4: Deception Valley to Okavango Delta - Botswana

On day three we have breakfast at Deception Valley Lodge, before driving back to the private airstrip for our light aircraft flight to Delta Camp. Touching down in the heart of the unspoilt Okavango Delta we head to Delta Camp, a natural lodge set amid old indigenous trees on a small island near Moremi Game Reserve.

The Okavango Delta is a truly wild place inhabited by a rich diversity of wildlife, plants and small creatures. This nature lover's paradise is the most treasured natural wonder of Botswana with its winding waterways, reed-lined lagoons and secluded islands - an unspoilt wildlife haven.

We spend two nights at this luxury camp, taking in the wild delta environment and looking out for the diversity of wildlife and birds living here. Enjoy the pure Okavango Delta experience in utter peace, as the eco-friendly Delta Camp is free of motorised activities and noisy generators. Venture into the untamed bush on guided walks, experiencing the thrill of potentially encountering large animals on foot. Sit back and relax exploring the magical delta by mokoro in real traditional style, as your own private guide moves quietly along the channels in a hand-crafted dug-out canoe.

Set off into the local village to see where your guides live and meet the other residents, gaining insight into life in remote, rural Botswana. Or, spend the day exploring the secluded islands on foot, taking a picnic lunch with you for an intimate break. In between mokoro trips, cultural experiences and bush walks you can soak up the serenity at Delta Camp and tuck into the delicious cuisine, prepared with fresh vegetables, imported cheeses, excellent meats and fine wines flown in daily. Look out over the natural delta channels as you feast in the stylish dining area, watching for birds and animals out on the floodplains and waterways.

About Delta Camp

This eco-friendly camp is constructed from natural materials and the reeded chalets are raised from the forest floor to reduce the impact they have on the pristine environment. Each spacious chalet is solar powered and has an en-suite bathroom featuring a shower with a view, and hot and cold running water. Each of the chalets is uniquely designed around the ancient trees of the island in such a way as to maximise the views over the delta surroundings. The camp accommodates up to 16 guests at a time. Children are welcome at Delta Camp and their participation is not restricted as guests embark on activities with private guides.

The camp's private guides are delta locals who take guests exploring in their own mekoros and on foot. Your guide poles you along the lily-studded channels and walks you through the bush on the remote islands of the Okavango Delta, showing you the beauty of the local flora and fauna.

This camp is ecologically sensitive and proactive about taking care of the magnificent Okavango Delta environment, as well as promoting environmental awareness amongst staff and guests.

Day 5: Delta Camp to Maun - Botswana

Get up early on day five to embark on one more bush adventure in the Okavango Delta of Botswana, followed by breakfast at Delta Camp. Then we leave the camp, flying back to Maun in the light aircraft.

Arriving in Maun our outstanding Okavango Delta & Kalahari Botswana Lodge Safari comes to a close.
