At the start of this Budget Delta & Moremi Fly-in Safari you take a scenic flight from Maun to the Xakanaxa Airstrip in Moremi Game Reserve. Flying over the Okavango Delta in a small plane is the ideal way to take in the massive scale and incredible beauty of this unique wilderness area - a fantastic start to your adventure in Botswana.
After admiring the sweeping views of the delta from the skies we board a motorboat at Xakanaxa Boat Station and continue our journey on water. From Xakanaxa we cruise to Xobega Island Camp, located on a private island in the Okavango Delta of Botswana. We cruise along the delta waterways, taking in the wild scenery and watching for animals and birds. After about one and a half hours we arrive at the camp on Xobega Island. The staff welcomes you to camp and shows you to your tents. Settle in and relax before our first excursion into the network of Okavango Delta waterways.
As sunset approaches we set off on a boat cruise, slowly navigating the winding, reed-lined channels that run between the islands. Keep your eyes open for the diverse array of birds found in the delta, known for its abundant birdlife. We may also come across hippos, elephants and other animals whilst cruising. Along the way we stop to look at the breeding sites of storks and ibises, getting a closer look at these active heronries.
After witnessing a beautiful sunset from the water, sundowners in hand, we glide back to camp. Freshen up and enjoy dinner and drinks around the flickering campfire, before falling asleep to the chorus of frogs and the occasional grunting of hippos.
Wake up to the sound of chirping birds in the heart of the Okavango Delta, surrounded by unspoilt nature. Our day starts with breakfast in the dining tent amid the trees, where vervet monkeys are often spotted.
After breakfast we leave Xobega Island by boat, cruising for about 45 minutes to reach the Mboma Boat Station. At Mboma we switch to dug-out mekoros for our exploration by traditional-style vessels. Local guides pole the mekoros through the water, moving us quietly and slowly along the delta channels.
Then it is time to return to land, hopping into a safari vehicle for our game drive in Moremi Game Reserve, one of the most prestigious wildlife areas in Botswana. Having spotted a variety of incredible wild animals in Moremi, we head to Mboma Island where we have a picnic lunch. After our picnic in the wild, it is time to cruise back to Xobega Island by motorboat.
Freshen up, take a quick bucket shower and have a cool drink, unwinding at camp this afternoon. Later you have the option of venturing back into the delta channels on the sunset cruise, ending the day with some laid-back sundowners on the boat. This evening we tuck into a three-course dinner and sit back around the campfire under starry skies, listening to the sounds of untamed nature.
This morning you wake up to the sounds of the bush and have breakfast at camp, before embarking on a morning boat cruise or a guided bush walk on one of the secluded islands in the area.
The guided walk is ideal for seeing the intricate details of the Okavango Delta up close, immersing you in the wilderness with all its tiny marvels. Walking through the bush with your guide gives you the chance to learn more about this unique ecosystem. Find out about the medicinal and culinary uses of the various plants and spend some time tracking animals, perhaps encountering big game on foot.
After your walk in the wild delta habitat, brunch is served back at camp. The remainder of day three, is free for you to take it easy on Xobega Island, soaking up the peace at this remote location. Settle down for rewarding nature and bird watching, and simply enjoy being in the middle of the bush.
Late this afternoon we head out on a sunset boat cruise, scanning the delta bush for birds and animals. After catching another spectacular sunset from the water, we return to camp for our last evening in the wilderness of Botswana.
On day four we wake up in the peaceful delta setting one last time and have breakfast at camp, before leaving Xobega Island.
The return boat ride to Xakanaxa Boat Station, on the mainland of Moremi Game Reserve, takes about one and a half hours. At Xakanaxa we board a small aircraft and fly back to Maun, savouring the incredible views of the wild delta from above. Our Delta & Moremi Bush Camp Safari ends back in Maun, leaving you with the memories of a lifetime.
At the end of the safari, you also have the option of flying from Xakanaxa Airstrip to Kasane Airport (extra cost), instead of Maun. View the Full Pricing above for details.
