This budget Madagascar Trip starts in the small coastal city of Diego Suarez, also known as Antsiranana.
Today your guide meets you at the Diego Suarez Airport when you arrive and drives you to your eco-lodge near Amber Mountain National Park. The eco-friendly lodge is located at the entrance of Montagne d'Ambre (Amber Mountain) National Park, not far from Diego Suarez. Settle in at the lodge and enjoy the views of the Bay of Diego in the Mozambique Channel.
The scenic Amber Mountain Park covers 185 km² of montane forest, crater lakes, and waterfalls in the mountains of northern Madagascar.
This afternoon we take a guided walk in Montagne d'Ambre, time allowing. Walking in the lush national park gives you a close-up look at the diverse plants, birds, and animals of Madagascar, including rare and endemic species.
After exploring the forests of Amber Mountain Park on foot we return to our cozy lodge for the evening.
Wake up to the wonderful views from your bungalow and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee. Day two of our Madagascar Trip starts with breakfast at the eco-lodge, before venturing into Montagne d'Ambre for a full day of exploring.
While exploring this scenic national park we are likely to encounter various Madagascar lemurs. The tropical rainforests of Amber Mountain Park host eight different lemur species. We may also come across mongoose, as well as a variety of birds and other interesting creatures, such as brightly colored chameleons and butterflies.
Our exploration takes us to volcanic lakes and beautiful waterfalls in the cool mountains. Your guide will also show you some of the rare and endemic plants of Madagascar while you soak up the spectacular scenery of the park.
On day three, we travel back to Diego Suarez, now called Antsiranana.
The last night of this affordable Madagascar Trip is spent in the city, giving you a chance to experience a bit of the local culture. Diego Suarez is the capital of the Dianna region of Madagascar, hosting of country's major ports.
Arriving in Antsiranana we check into our seaside hotel, located five minutes from the city center. Settle into your elegant room overlooking the ocean and take a stroll through the tropical gardens of the hotel.
Or head out and explore the dynamic city to experience the fascinating cultures of Madagascar. Diego Suarez has an interesting history and is home to a diverse mix of people with Arabic, European, Indian, and Creole influences. It is a great place to learn more about the history and people of Madagascar. As you explore you may notice old French colonial buildings and locals wearing white djellabas (robes), decorative masks, and colorful loincloths. End the day with a celebratory dinner out on the town or at your comfortable hotel with a view of Diego Bay.
After breakfast at the stylish hotel, you are transferred to the Diego Suarez Airport, where your Madagascar Trip to Diego Suarez & Amber Mountain National Park finishes.
