Explore two of Africa's best wildlife gems on this excellent-value Okavango Delta Walking & Savuti Safari in Botswana. Fly into the wild Okavango Delta to experience the pristine beauty of Botswana's most treasured wilderness area. Explore the delta on bush walks with your own private guide from Oddballs' Enclave and on mokoro trips when water levels are high enough. Then fly to the famous Chobe National Park to enjoy exceptional game viewing in the wildlife-rich Savuti Marsh, famed for its predator sightings.
Stay in comfortable tented accommodation at two intimate safari camps in scenic and remote spots - one on a small delta island near Moremi Game Reserve and the other along the Savuti Channel in Chobe.
This Botswana Safari begins at the airport in Maun where a Delta Air representative assists you with catching a small six-seater plane into the delta. Our flight provides a stunning view of the delta and wildlife below before landing at the remote Oddballs’ Enclave, set on a small island only accessible by light aircraft. Oddballs Enclave is a very special destination, set deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp is located near Chief’s Island, adjacent to the highly acclaimed Moremi Game Reserve of Botswana.
The spacious tents have amazing views, looking out on elephants, hippos, and red lechwe antelopes in the water that runs by the camp. The very private outdoor bathroom and shower (with a great view), hot water, and bucket shower just add to this African adventure. The tents have a private back porch where you can sit and relax while watching the wildlife, even elephants walk by! To unwind and cool off after an exploring walk, the cool den and bar area will be waiting. Hippos are often observed at night and all the animal sounds will lull you to sleep after an exciting day.
Your friendly designated guide will be there to greet you on arrival. Each guide is assigned to two guests at most for the duration of your stay and will lead you into the Okavango Delta on private walking safaris. It is quite possible to track the lions that you heard roaring the night before. Your guide will keep you safe and informed and even do his utmost best to find a special bird or animal you are keen to see. As locals who have grown up here, the guides know this wild ecosystem intimately and can share in-depth knowledge and their passion for wildlife with their guests.
When there is enough water in the delta (after the rainy season), your guide will take you on mokoro excursions, especially early in the morning and afternoon. Poling along the watery channels in his dug-out canoe while you sit back and relax. The guide stands in the back of his traditional, wooden mokoro moving the canoe through the shallow waters with a long pole.
As you walk through the bush, your guide can tell you everything about the Okavango Delta and its inhabitants, sharing minute details about the local flora and fauna. Exploring the untamed delta on foot is a thrilling experience because you may encounter big animals at any moment, like coming across a lioness and her cubs. A walking safari also creates a great opportunity for taking wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime, close-up photos of the fauna, insects, and wild animals. A delicious picnic lunch can be arranged on request, allowing you to spend a full day exploring the wilderness.
For the first three nights of this Botswana Safari accommodation is at Oddballs' Enclave on a small island off Chiefʼs Island in the Okavango Delta. This intimate safari camp consists of only five walk-in tents providing accommodation for up to 10 guests. The tents are permanent canvas structures set on raised wooden platforms with small deck areas. Oddballs’ Enclave has twin share and double-bedded tents, all with semi-detached bathrooms. These private bathrooms are fitted with al fresco bucket showers with hot and cold running water and flush toilets.
Tucked away in the middle of the pristine delta habitat, this classical, comfortable camp is the ideal place to unwind and soak up the beauty of nature- sunrises are a must-see. The absence of motorized activities ensures that guests can unwind in peace. Lovely raised viewing and lounge areas offer comfortable places for enjoying the views and looking out for birds and animals in the surrounding bush.
The food is highly commended and the staff is so welcoming and friendly that guests vow to return to this special camp.
After breakfast at Oddballs’ Enclave, we fly out of the watery delta, looking down over the scenic plains and waterways where wildlife roams freely. Our small plane carries us to the Savuti airstrip in Chobe National Park, northeast of the Okavango Delta.
Then we drive to Ghoha Hills Camp, about 45 minutes away, game viewing en route. The Savuti area of Botswana offers superb game viewing and is renowned for its outstanding predator sightings. The Savuti Marsh hosts one of Africa's highest concentrations of wild animals, as well as a rich array of birds. The camp sits on the rocky ledges of the Ghoha Hills with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.
During our stay in Chobe National Park, we will embark on morning and afternoon game drives along the Savuti Channel in the diverse Savuti Marsh area. We visit the Baobab Theatre, Bushman Rock Paintings and the curious Pimple Hills. In 2010 the Savuti Channel began to flow after almost two decades of standing dry, bringing this wild area to life again. Exploring waterholes, marshes and grasslands in open 4x4 vehicles, we look out for the abundance of herbivores that gather in the Savuti Marsh to graze on the sweet grasses, along with the numerous predators found here.
For the next three nights of this Botswana Safari guests stay at the remote Ghoha Hills Camp. A small private camp, Ghoha Hills provides a personal safari experience in Chobe National Park. This intimate camp is set in the Ghoha Hills above the Savuti Channel, offering stunning views over the marshes and channel.
A maximum of 26 guests are accommodated in eleven luxury tented rooms, set apart to create privacy and overlooking the Savuti Channel where birds and animals can be spotted. The tented rooms are stylish and comfortable, with spacious en-suite bathrooms. The thatched main area of Ghoha Hills Camp has seating on a viewing deck with unparalleled 180-degree views, and a refreshing rock swimming pool alongside. They overlook a waterhole where you can observe animals visiting to drink. There is also a Spa offering a menu of pampering treatments and optional scenic helicopter flights available on request.
Rise and shine for an early morning game drive in Chobe National Park, before breakfast at Ghoha Hills Camp. Then it is time to fly back to Maun in a small plane. In Maun, our memorable Okavango Delta Walking & Savuti Safari in Botswana comes to a close.
We only recommend booking this Botswana Safari for travel during the late fall, winter, and early spring seasons in Botswana. This is because the summer months are uncomfortably hot for walking safaris in the Okavango Delta and the water levels are not high enough for proper mokoro trips. We have therefore only listed the tour departure dates available within the date range we recommend.
This tour does take children.
Children of all ages are welcome to join with accompanying parents or guardians.
