Welcome to East Africa!
This Kenya Safari Package kicks off in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, to be met by our English-speaking driver who transfers you southeast to Tsavo National Park. After about a five-hour drive we reach Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge in Tsavo West National Park.
We have lunch at the safari lodge, before setting off on our first 4x4 game drive in Kenya. Our game drive is conducted in the 4x4 safari vehicle with an expert guide.
Back at the lodge we have dinner and enjoy the views of the active waterhole, grasslands, and distant Mount Kilimanjaro. Various animals visit the waterhole, which is considered one of Kenya's best.
On the first morning of our Kenya Lodge Safari, we embark on a 4x4 game drive in Tsavo National Park, after breakfast at the lodge.
Lunch is served back at the lodge and then there is some time to relax, before our afternoon game drive.
At Kilaguni Lodge you can do various exciting cultural and wildlife activities (optional extras), like game walks, and enjoy the swimming pool and bar. Keep a lookout for wildlife while you have dinner in the restaurant, overlooking the watering hole.
Tsavo East and Tsavo West national parks combine to make one of the biggest game reserves in the world, at about 22700km². Tsavo National Park is famous for the man-eating lions of Tsavo, which preyed on railway workers in colonial times. Home to Africa's Big Five – buffalos, leopards, elephants, rhino, and the notorious lions - and giraffes, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, and plenty of antelopes.
Today we make our way to the second Kenya national park of our Kenya safari, Amboseli. After breakfast we drive to nearby Amboseli National Park, arriving about an hour and a half later.
After settling in at our safari lodge in Amboseli we have lunch and head out into the bush on a 4x4 game drive.
We overnight at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge which has beautiful views over the plains and Kilimanjaro in the background.
Day four of our Kenya Safari is spent on a morning and afternoon 4x4 game drive, with lunch at the lodge in-between. In Amboseli National Park we are almost sure to get up close to big herds of elephants among other wild animals.
This scenic Kenya national park is known as one of the best places to get up-close to big herds of elephants, making for amazing photos with Mount Kilimanjaro in the background. Amboseli National Park hosts a variety of big mammals and an array of birds.
Start day five with breakfast at the safari lodge in Amboseli. Then our Kenya Lodge Safari takes us back to Nairobi where our fly-in Masai Mara safari begins.
We head to the Wilson Airport in Nairobi and have a light lunch (excluded from the tour price). Then we hop on a one-hour domestic flight to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Touching down at Ol Kiombo airstrip, the driver is there to take you to our overnight safari camp inside Masai Mara Game Reserve.
From our base, Ilkeliani Camp, we embark on an exhilarating sunset game drive. Then it's time for dinner at the safari camp, which sits on the shaded banks of the river. This spot is ideal for watching elephants down at the river, as well as many other wild animals and birds that visit this part of Masai Mara.
This is where it happens - one of the most spectacular wildlife shows on earth, the Great Wildebeest Migration. The Big Five and a smorgasbord of other animals can be seen roaming on the open grasslands scattered with thorn trees. The landscape - a scene from Out of Africa, the original inhabitants - the famous Maasai warriors. Masai Mara is the highlight of many a Kenya Safari, for good reason!
Today is set aside for some serious game viewing in our shared 4x4 safari vehicle. Masai Mara Game Reserve is one of the best game reserves in the world, making for an unforgettable African safari experience.
Famous for its abundance of big cats (lion, leopard, and cheetah) and Big Five animals, it's easy to see why Masai Mara is rated the best Kenya national park! We spend the full day watching wildlife and birds in this legendary Kenya safari gem.
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to the game-rich plains of Masai Mara. Hop back on the plane and fly to Nairobi in an hour.
In Nairobi, you can choose between drop-off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or your post-tour hotel, bringing this exciting Kenya Safari to a close.
Please note that the Wildebeest Great Migration is seasonal. As a natural wildlife phenomenon, it is fluid and unpredictable. For this reason, seeing the Great Migration cannot be guaranteed.
The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between Masai Mara in Kenya and Serengeti in Tanzania. These herds move in a massive circular route covering some 1200 miles (1931km). It is a continuous movement of wildlife that can be seen in different areas at different times of the year. During certain phases of this annual trek the animals disperse or slow down, whilst at other times the migration picks up speed, with the herds becoming larger and denser. Not only does the Wildebeest Great Migration vary from place to place and season to season but the movement of these large wildlife herds varies from year to year.
Please talk to a travel expert from African Budget Safaris about seeing the Wildebeest Great Migration on your safari to find out more. Also, check out our detailed article about the Great Migration in Serengeti and Masai Mara.
