Why Travel to Kampala? by

The tourism industry in Uganda, unlike that of its neighbours Kenya and Tanzania, is not extensive and overly developed, being relatively young and small in comparison. That said, Kampala, has a certain European flair and enough services and infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, tour operators, entertainment etc) to cater for travellers, offering a more off-the-beaten-track safari. Tours to Kampala provide a cultural experience and insight into real African life.

Safaris Starting and Ending in Kampala

Overland Camping Tours - medium to large groups travelling by overland truck and camping along the way

From five days of camping in Uganda, going trekking for endangered mountain gorillas and stopping at beautiful Lake Bunyoni, Africa's deepest crater lake.

The seven day camping safari, starting and ending in Kampala, takes you Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest National Park and to Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Lake Bunyonyi and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The camping safaris involve active participation from group members and are ideal for the adventurous spirit.

Accommodated Overland Safaris - travelling in medium to large groups by overland truck with lodge-style accommodation

An example would be a one-week safari that takes you to Lake Bunyonyi from where you go Gorilla Trekking, as well as game viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

These accommodated safaris make use of well-selected lodge-style accommodation along the way, from chalets to tented camps, offering a higher level of comfort than the camping safaris. A degree of participation is required along the way.

Budget Lodge Safaris - small to medium sized groups travelling by smaller vehicle and staying at lodges en route

There is a wider selection of Budget Lodge Safaris to Uganda than Overland Tours. These range from the short 3-day safari that just takes you to see the Mountain Gorillas to 4-day options either only visiting the Gorillas or including Queen Elizabeth National Park and a boat trip on Kazinga Channel. Then there are the 5-day, 6-day, 7-day and 8-day Budget Lodge Safaris, which include highlights such as Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Park, game viewing in Queen Elizabeth Park and taking a boat cruise at Murchison Falls.

Safaris via Kampala

Overland Camping Safaris - also Visiting Kenya and/or other Destinations in East and Southern Africa.

Some of the options include safaris that start and end in Nairobi or start at Victoria Falls and end in Nairobi. These range from shorter trips (about two weeks) to longer safaris that take over a month to visit several highlights in East Africa.

Combine Kenya's Lake Nakuru National Park and the Great Rift Valley with Gorilla Trekking in Uganda. Or take an epic trip from Vic Falls in Zimbabwe to Chobe Park (Botswana), South Luangwa Park (Zambia), Lake Malawi, Zanzibar Island, Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks (Tanzania), Masai Mara National Park (Kenya) and finally Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park.

These are just a few of the Gorilla Trekking Safaris and broader African Safaris that travel to Kampala - see more Uganda Safaris.
