While many think of Kasane as merely a gateway to bigger things, the town and surrounds have much to offer visitors:
Situated on the banks of the beautiful Chobe River, there are a number of beautiful accommodation spots in and around Kasane. They offer basic camping through to luxury, depending on budget. Many offer spectacular riverside locations.
When you see pictures of sunsets over the river advertising Africa, very often these are taken in or on the Chobe River. Numerous operators offer sunset cruises, which usually last 2 to 3 hours.
There is nothing more spectacular than watching the sky go orange as the sun sets over the bush, G & T in hand, with only the sounds of the river, African birds and the occassional grunt of a hippo as accompaniment.
Chobe National Park is situated right next to Kasane. This is the oldest national park in Botswana and has one of the most concentrated wildlife populations in Africa.
From the Big Five, to incredible birds, a wide array of antelope and cats and plenty of water animals, it's a treat for any visitor. They boast a huge population of elephant, so don't leave your camera behind!
Just up the hill from FNB, on the Airport Road, is the CARACAL Centre. CARACAL stands for 'Centre for African Resource: Animals,Communities and Land use.' The centre is an important hub for education, conservation and rehabilitation of wildlife. They work closely with local communities to improve the lives of both humans and animals.
Visit the centre to learn about their programmes, see whichever visiting orphans/injured animals they have (anything from warthog to cheetah), and marvel at their amazing snake collection.
Enjoy a bathe in the natural mineral waters of the hot springs, thought by many to be medicinal.
