Why Travel to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary? by

Swaziland's oldest protected area, Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is a nature lover's paradise located in the Valley of Heaven or Ezulwini Valley. This secluded Swaziland reserve hosts an abundance of wildlife and birds in 4560 hectares of scenic wilderness. Mlilwane abuts the Usutu Forest with Nyonyane Mountain as its backdrop. Outdoor activities abound in Mlilwane Sanctuary including hiking, horseriding and mountain biking due to the absence of large predators.

About Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Tours

Our guided tours that include Mlilwane Sanctuary range from 8 days to 36 days in duration. These itineraries visit a host of Southern Africa's top destinations, including Mlilwane.

All of our budget safaris to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary also visit Kruger National Park, South Africa's leading game park. Most of these group tours also visit the South African highlights of the Panorama Route, Isimangaliso Wetland Park and Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Tour Highlights & Routes (departure and end locations)

Short Tours

Our 8-day long tours that include Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, travel from Johannesburg in Gauteng to Durban in Kwa-Zulu Natal, and in the reverse direction. These short safaris all visit the Panorama Route and Kruger National Park in conjunction with Mlilwane.

The medium length tours of about two-weeks, mostly start and end in Johannesburg or Pretoria. The other option for two-week tours is to start in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape and end in Johannesburg, or vice versa. Many of these two-week safaris travel to Mozambique, in addition to South Africa and Swaziland, adding sought-after African beach destinations to the classical wildlife destinations of Kruger and Mlilwane. In Mozambique, tour highlights include Inhambane, Tofo, Maputo and the Bazaruto Islands.

Medium-length Tours

There is also a selection of two-week long tours that visit Lesotho instead of Mozambique. Our Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Safaris that combine Swaziland with South Africa and Lesotho, usually visit some or all of the following in addition to Kruger: Malealea, Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve, the Drakensberg Mountains, Durban, Hlane Royal National Park, Isimangaliso Wetland Park and Addo Elephant National Park.

Long Tours

Our longer tours, the 20-day and 36-day Southern Africa Safaris, depart from Johannesburg or Pretoria and end in Cape Town. Or you can depart from Cape Town and finish your tour in Johannesburg. The longer budget trips follow the same itineraries as the shorter tour versions, but with more top destinations added on. South African highlights on the longer tours include the Garden Route, Oudtshoorn, Cango Caves, South Coast, Cape Whale Route, Cape Winelands and Cape Town in the Western Cape. Our 36-day Overland Camping Tour takes in Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, in addition to South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique -  an epic Southern African adventure!

Types of Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Safaris

Our Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Safaris consist primarily of Accommodated Overland Tours and Overland Camping Tours, with some Budget Lodge Safaris and an Exclusive Budget Safari option. The Africa Overland Tours are the most affordable safaris. These are usually large group (about 20 people) tours that travel by overland truck and require participation from guests along the way.

Our affordable Lodge Safaris are a step up from Accommodated Overland Tours providing extra comfort, smaller group sizes (about 12) and transport in a microbus or small overland vehicle. The Exclusive Budget Safari takes only 9 guests at a time, requires minimal participation and travels by small overland vehicle, staying almost exclusively in fixed accommodation.
