Most safaris in this sought-after private game reserve are not budget-friendly, but this Sabi Sands Safari offers a choice of three of the best value lodges in the exclusive Sabi Sands Game Reserve.
This 4-day Sabi Sands Safari starts off in the vibrant city of Johannesburg where you will be collected from the OR Tambo Bus Terminal at around 06:45 and set off for Sabi Sands Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s top safari destinations.
Upon entering Sabi Sands Game Reserve we head to the safari lodge where we will spend three nights on safari. We arrive at our safari lodge in the world-class Sabi Sands Game Reserve between 15h00 and 16h00. After a light snack, we embark on our first afternoon to evening game drive.
This exciting afternoon game drive lasts about three to four hours taking us into the evening. Dinner will be served when we get back from the 4x4 game drive in Sabi Sands Reserve. Dinner is served at your selected lodge, in the dining area, or in the open-air boma – a beautiful setting under starry African skies.
Sabi Sands Game Reserve, a 65,000-hectare private reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park, offers a more exclusive safari experience than the main Kruger National Park area. Sabi Sand's management policy is focused on the conservation of wildlife, its main objective being to monitor the habitat and wildlife densities. The promotion and conservation of fauna, and flora and the preservation of the area as a sanctuary for every type of indigenous wildlife is an important focus. The hunting of wildlife in Sabi Sands is forbidden.
The Sabi Sands Game Reserve shares a 50 km unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park allowing wildlife to migrate freely across these vast protected areas. Predators are never far behind and Sabi Sands is particularly renowned for its large cats, especially its superb leopard sightings. Not only are the chances of spotting leopards in Sabi Sands almost guaranteed, but safari vehicles also frequently get as close as three to four meters from these amazing predators making for excellent photographic opportunities.
Generally, the accommodation in Sabi Sands is upmarket and caters to the more discerning traveler. Our Sabi Sands Safari is unique in that it offers the budget traveler an affordable safari package with excellent quality lodge accommodation within the Sabi Sands Game Reserve.
We get up early on the second day of our Sabi Sands Safari and have a refreshing coffee before embarking on our early morning game drive.
Mornings are an excellent time of day for spotting wildlife and birds in the bush and morning game drives also avoid driving under the sun in the hottest part of the day. Upon our return from the rewarding morning game drive in Sabi Sands Game Reserve breakfast is served. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax at your comfortable lodge, take a swim, spoil yourself at the spa, and enjoy the lodge facilities.
There is also the option of taking an exhilarating bush walk with a trained safari guide after breakfast. Guided bush walks are conducted with armed safari guides giving you the chance to experience Sabi Sand's wildlife up-close. Visitors get to enjoy close encounters in the bush and learn more about the wild animals and ecosystems in the area from the knowledgeable guides.
Later in the afternoon, we head back out into the bush on an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge for dinner in the evening. Day three follows a similar itinerary to the second day of the Sabi Sands Safari, with game drives or bush walks and downtime at the lodge.
Wake up to the wild setting of Sabi Sands Game Reserve one more time and soak up the sights and sounds of nature over a fresh cup of coffee. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your Sabi Sands lodge and watch for wildlife and birds in the surrounding bush. Then you are collected from the lodge and transferred back to Hoedspruit for your return shuttle to Johannesburg. Arriving back in the city you are dropped off at the OR Tambo International Airport between 17:00 and 18:00, where our exciting Sabi Sands Safari ends. Alternatively, you can transfer to our post-tour lodge and extend your stay in Johannesburg.
Lodge A is located in the northern sector of Sabi Sands, bordering on the Kruger National Park. The unfenced border with Kruger means that the area teems with wildlife that wanders freely in this vast bush landscape. The lodge is built around a waterhole which draws the wildlife and offers excellent game viewing. Twice daily open-vehicle game safaris are led by knowledgeable and experienced rangers.
The lodge can accommodate only 26 guests in thirteen suites, which have en-suite facilities, an outdoor shower, and a private deck. For guests' comfort, there is air-conditioning, mosquito nets, and a sparkling pool where you can relax and cool off. Guests may also gather in the lounge area, enjoy breakfast and lunch in the dining room, and dinner around the campfire in the outdoor, traditional African boma dining under starry African skies. There is an African spa where guests can relax and try some of the treatments offered and if you need some retail therapy, there's a curio shop where you may find some mementos of this safari adventure.
Lodge B accommodation is in traditional rondavels set in a beautiful, landscaped garden, in the northern sector of Sabi Sand Game Reserve, adjacent to the Kruger National Park. The comfortable lodge accommodates a maximum of 24 guests, which ensures personal service and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Each rondavel has en-suite facilities, with air-conditioning, as well as an overhead fan and a sun deck. Breakfast and lunch are served in the dining room, but dinner is taken in the boma around the campfire, under the stars for a traditional African experience. Pre-dinner drinks may be taken in the bar and dinner is accompanied by wine from the lodge's well-stocked wine cellar. There is a swimming pool, adjacent to a wooden viewing deck overlooking the waterhole, where the wildlife congregates.
An experienced game ranger and local Shangaan tracker are keen to share with you their extensive knowledge and love of the African bush - the highlight of your visit is the thrill of discovering wildlife from the safety of open vehicles. The 4-wheel drive vehicles enable the rangers to drive off-road and provide guests with up-close game viewing and great photographic opportunities. All in all, this is a comfortable lodge in an exclusive private game reserve - the ideal place to create lasting memories.
Luxury Suites, including a Honeymoon Suite, are available at the safari lodge at an additional cost.
This intimate lodge in the northern sector of Sabi Sands accommodates a maximum of 12 guests in stylish, but homely thatched chalets with en-suite facilities and a private deck. Each chalet has its own unique decorating style. The thatched dining room overlooks an open plain, where wildlife roams, and dinner is served around the campfire in the boma under African skies. There is both an infinity pool and a rock pool for cooling off and a well-stocked bar off the pool deck. Wine from the wine cellar is available to enjoy with dinner and mementos may be purchased at the lodge curio shop.
Wildlife viewing drives take place twice a day with an experienced ranger, with breaks for tea or coffee on the morning drive and sundowners, as the sun sets, on the evening drives. The professional rangers also take guests out on a thrilling walk in the bush.
