Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Lilongwe (Malawi) to Luangwa Valley (Zambia)

This Zambia Safari in South Luangwa National Park starts in the neighboring country of Malawi. This morning, you are collected from your pre-tour accommodation in the capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe.

We leave Lilongwe at about 9h00, driving west to the Zambia border. After completing border formalities a short drive takes us to the lively town of Chipata, the capital of the Eastern Province of Zambia. From friendly Chipata, we drive northwest to the game-rich Mfuwe area of Luangwa Valley, known for its elephants. Along the way we stop for a picnic lunch, arriving at our Zambia safari lodge in South Luangwa National Park by mid-afternoon.

The remainder of the afternoon is free for you to settle in at our comfortable safari lodge and enjoy the wild setting. The lodge is located on the banks of the Luangwa River inside the South Luangwa National Park. It is the ideal place for an authentic wildlife safari in the unspoiled African wilderness. Take a swim in one of the two swimming pools and relax on the deck overlooking the bush or have a siesta in your private chalet. This evening, we tuck into a bistro-style a la carte dinner in the spacious dining area or courtyard and gardens.

Day 2 & 3: South Luangwa National Park (Zambia)

We spend the next two days of our Budget Zambia Safari in South Luangwa National Park. Our days on safari in Luangwa Valley start with an early morning wake-up call for tea, coffee, and a light snack before we venture into the wildlife-rich Zambian bush.

The game drives in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia's top wildlife park, are conducted in specially modified, open 4x4 safari vehicles to ensure the best wildlife experience in this unspoiled wilderness area. We make our way back to the safari lodge for a delicious brunch (early lunch) in the mid-morning, depending on our luck spotting wildlife in South Luangwa Park. After lunch, you can relax, take a swim, and rest before our afternoon-to-night game drive. South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its excellent night game drives, which are included in the price of your Zambia safari. On night drives a powerful spotlight is used to sight nocturnal creatures roaming in the bush. We return from our rewarding game drives in this pristine wilderness area of Zambia for laid-back evenings at the safari lodge. Sit back around the campfire after tasty dinners and simply relax in the wild setting of the lodge.

South Luangwa National Park is the pioneer of African walking safaris and an optional walking safari can also be booked here (in season). All game-viewing activities at the safari lodge are conducted by fully-qualified guides. The guides are skilled and experienced professionals who are happy to share their knowledge with you.

Day three follows the same program, with two game drives and free time at the lodge in between to unwind and explore.

Day 4: Luangwa Valley (Zambia) to Lilongwe (Malawi)

Start the day with a full breakfast spread at the lodge overlooking the Luangwa River. Then it's time to pack up and say goodbye to wild South Luangwa National Park. Leaving Luangwa Valley we drive southeast to the border and cross back over into neighboring Malawi. En route, we enjoy a picnic lunch, arriving back in Lilongwe in the mid-afternoon. A free drop-off service is offered in Lilongwe, bringing this magical South Luangwa National Park Zambia Safari to a close.
