Itinerary for this Tour

Our full-day marine and wildlife adventure begins with collection from your accommodation in Port Elizabeth. Your guide will pick you up at about 7:30 am and drive you to the harbour. From there we set off on a boat trip in Algoa Bay, where a rich array of marine life can usually be spotted. We cruise out to St Croix Island to see the massive colony of African penguins and look out for whales, dolphins, sharks, seals and various marine birds.

Returning from the boat cruise we have lunch in the harbour or a restaurant in the area. Then we set off for the Big Five Addo Elephant National Park, a mere 35 minute drive away. We enter the park at the south gate, taking a short comfort break upon arrival at the park.

Entering Addo, the game viewing adventure begins! As the name suggests, Addo Elephant Park is the place to see elephants in South Africa. In fact, it is home to one of Africa's largest elephant populations which makes it one of the best places to see these intelligent giants in the wild.

In addition to plenty of elephants, we may see lions, buffalos, zebras and various antelopes like eland, kudu, red hartebeest and more. Our game drive takes us north in search of wildlife and birds in the dense bush and open plains of Addo.

Later we return to the southern gate and exit the national park, making our way back to Port Elizabeth. At about 18:30 we arrive back in the friendly city where you are dropped off at your accommodation.

Marine life of Algoa Bay

Algoa Bay is a marine hotspot for its abundance and diversity of sea life and birds. Amongst its rich marine life, some of the largest and most beloved marine animals on the planet - humpback whales, southern right whales and dolphins.

One of the five largest breeding colonies of African Penguins in the world is also found on St Croix Island in Algoa Bay. Plus, Algoa Bay is a hotspot for bottlenose dolphins, with some calling it the “Bottlenose Dolphin Capital of the World”. Here the bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen playing in the waves, often in large pods of up to 300 dolphins!

Seals are also often seen on the boat trips in Algoa Bay along with the apex predator of the ocean - the Great White Shark.

About Addo Park

Addo Elephant Park is home to a variety of animals, insects and birds, from the towering African elephant to the little flightless dung beetle. The third-largest national park in South Africa, Addo is the only national park where you can see the Big Seven (lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalos, elephants, southern right whales and great white sharks).

The parks greatest claim to fame is, however, its healthy elephant population, numbering almost 700. And that from its initial 11 elephants (on the brink of local extinction) back in 1931. In addition to the Big Five, Addo hosts wildebeest, zebra, eland, gemsbok, kudu, springbok, red hartebeest, bushbuck, hyena, warthog and more.

Please Note:

The morning boat trip is strictly dependent on the weather. If weather conditions are unfavourable for the boat trip, then we will spend a full day on safari in Addo Elephant National Park (at the standard day safari rate).

Whale watching is a seasonal activity. Southern Right and Humpback Whales can usually be seen from about June to November before they migrate to their feeding grounds in the Southern Ocean. There are, however, permanent whale species found here including Minke and Bryde’s whales which are smaller and more athletic.
