  • Meals included: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park - Uganda

Our exciting gorilla trekking safari starts with an early breakfast at our lodge before your guide drives you to the park headquarters. At 08h00, the UWA (Uganda Wildlife Authority) staff brief you on what to expect from gorilla trekking in Uganda. This unique, lush and diverse forest is one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems in East Africa, contributing to Uganda being known as the ‘Pearl of Africa’.

This forest ecosystem supports over 120 mammals, 345 species of birds, 200 species of butterflies, and 160 species of trees. The Bwindi National Park is a precious conservation area, as an estimated half of the world’s most endangered mountain gorillas live here. There are only about 1000 mountain gorillas left in the world, so this is sure to be the most unforgettable experience on this Uganda safari. The expert rangers and trackers will accompany us throughout our gorilla trek into the lush forest, starting at the gorilla sanctuary entrance. The rangers offer insight into these endangered primates throughout our gorilla trek in Bwindi.

Given that gorilla trekking may involve traversing steep inclines, ravines, and thickets for 2 to 6 hours, a good fitness level is essential, along with sturdy walking boots. Equipping oneself with a raincoat, water, and snacks is advisable. Upon finding a gorilla troop, we’ll witness their fascinating behaviours. We watch as they feed, groom, play and rest from a respectful 10-meter distance for about an hour—a reward that makes the trek worthwhile.

In the afternoon, we take a stroll through the nearby village. Our walk in the Buhoma village offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the communities dwelling around the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The excursion is not only an immersive cultural experience, but it also provides meaningful support to the residents. We walk with a knowledgeable local guide from the Buhoma Community Rest Camp - an enlightening and enriching experience for any visitor. Witness first-hand the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the Ugandan villagers as you explore their customs and traditions.

After this authentic community experience, we’ll return to our chosen lodge for a well-deserved dinner and relaxation. Fall asleep to the sounds of the Bwindi forest reliving the incredible adventures of your day.
