This 6-day Kruger safari expedition is a comprehensive journey through the southern reaches of Kruger National Park, combined with a stay at a private reserve. Starting and ending at Johannesburg O.R Tambo International Airport, this lodge safari balances the authenticity of national park rest camps with the exclusivity of a private reserve experience.
Traveling in a custom-built open 4x4 safari vehicle, you'll explore Kruger's quieter gravel roads over two full days, with ample opportunity to encounter the Big Five. In the evenings, you'll unwind in authentic fenced rest camps inside Kruger National Park, with meals prepared over an open fire by your on-tour chef. On Day 4, the expedition transitions to Mjejane Private Reserve, an unfenced concession bordering Kruger, where you'll enjoy off-road game drives, optional night drives, and the option of a guided bush walk.
Perfect for guests seeking depth and variety with the convenience of scheduled departures, this 6-day Kruger safari expedition blends the classic Kruger experience, expert guiding, authentic camp stays, and an exclusive private reserve into one seamless wilderness journey.
Your Kruger safari expedition begins with a scheduled transfer from Johannesburg (OR Tambo International Airport) to White River. The air-conditioned shuttle departs at 07h00 and arrives at Castor Bridge by 11h30, where Muluwa Lodge's transfer meets you for the short drive to the property.
After checking in, spend the afternoon settling into your luxury safari tent and enjoying the peaceful surroundings of the bush. Wildlife often roams the Likweti Bushveld Estate, making this a relaxing introduction to the Lowveld. Dinner is served at the lodge as you meet your fellow travelers and prepare for the safari ahead.
The expedition begins in earnest at Muluwa Lodge with breakfast served as the bush awakens. Departure follows shortly after in open safari vehicles, heading north toward the Kruger boundary.
Entry into the park sets the tone—vast skies, sunlit plains, and the first signs of wildlife moving through the brush. The journey winds along lesser-traveled gravel roads, where impalas graze undisturbed, and elephants roam close to the track.
Lunch is served en route at a rest area or scenic spot within the park. By late afternoon, arrival at an authentic safari camp brings a sense of stillness and place. As evening settles, the guide prepares a traditional braai over open flames.
Before sunrise, the day begins with coffee and rusks. The morning drive explores the park's varied ecosystems—acacia woodlands, riverine belts, and wide grasslands. Sightings unfold throughout the day: buffalo herds stirring dust, giraffes browsing high branches, lion tracks weaving across the road.
By late morning, a rest camp provides a welcome stop for lunch. The journey continues into the afternoon, taking new routes and discovering new terrain. Arrival at a different safari camp offers a fresh backdrop for the night.
As dusk sets in, another open-fire dinner is prepared at camp. This is the safari rhythm—roam by day, gather by firelight, rest to the sounds of the wild.
Another early wake-up brings soft light filtering through the trees. After coffee and rusks, a final game drive winds through the southern reaches of Kruger—one of the last chances for rare sightings or magical encounters.
Lunch is served at one of Kruger's authentic rest camps, with spectacular views overlooking the Crocodile River. The route exits at Malelane Gate, shifting the journey into Mjejane Private Reserve, an unfenced concession where the wilderness continues without boundaries.
Arrival at the lodge is met with chilled drinks, followed by time to relax in the pool overlooking the dam. Later, sundowners are enjoyed at a nearby dam before a boma dinner begins under the stars. An optional late-night game drive reveals the nocturnal world under red-filtered spotlights.
Morning brings the optional guided bush walk—slow, focused, and grounded. Each track in the soil, each birdcall in the trees, becomes a story.
Breakfast follows at the lodge, after which a luxury transfer vehicle returns the group to Muluwa Lodge, arriving late morning or early afternoon. The rest of the day is free to relax by the pool, enjoy the lodge facilities, or reflect on the expedition. Dinner is served at the lodge as the sun sets over the bushveld.
After breakfast at Muluwa Lodge, you'll be transferred to Castor Bridge for your scheduled return shuttle to Johannesburg. The shuttle departs at 12h30, arriving at OR Tambo International Airport by 17h30—perfectly timed for evening flights home.
Muluwa Lodge is a relaxed safari lodge set within the Likweti Bushveld Estate near White River, offering wide views over the Lowveld and a peaceful bush setting before and after your Kruger safari. Your stay is in Luxury Safari Tents that blend the feel of a classic tented camp with modern comfort, including en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning—ideal for unwinding after travel days and long game drives. During your expedition, you'll stay in authentic SANParks rest camps such as Talamati and Lower Sabie. These fenced camps offer comfortable rondavels or safari tents with basic amenities, providing an authentic bush experience where the sounds of the wild are your evening entertainment. Meals are prepared by your expedition chef over open fires, creating that classic safari atmosphere under African stars.
Mjejane Private Reserve is an unfenced concession bordering Kruger National Park, allowing free movement of wildlife between the two areas.
