Highlights of this affordable Namibia safari adventure, include:
A fascinating scenic journey into the ancient Namib Desert region of Namibia!
On the first day of this Namibia Desert Lodge Safari guests are collected from their accommodation in Windhoek between 8:00 and 08:30 am. From Windhoek, we travel into the ancient Namib Desert via the scenic Khomas Hochland, one of the highest points in Namibia and a perfect spot to view the magnificent surrounding valleys.
The steep descent down the Gamsberg takes us towards the outpost of Solitaire, located near the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Reaching the quirky hamlet of Solitaire we have lunch before continuing to our accommodation. En-route to our guest farm we keep our eyes open for game sightings and are likely to see springbok, ostrich and oryx.
We spend our first two nights at the guest farm situated on the edge of the Namib-Naukluft Park, about halfway between Solitaire and Sesriem. This reserve, Namibia's biggest, covers approximately 50 000 km² and is one of the largest game parks in Africa. The guest farm offers spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness, ideal for relaxing with sundowners at the end of the day.
Today we are up early for a memorable day of exploring the famous Namib Desert of Namibia. We make our way to the Namib-Naukluft National Park, passing through stark desert landscapes en route to the entrance gate of this massive protected area.
Entering the Namib-Naukluft Park we head to Dune 45, the most famous dune in the park. You can climb up the sand dunes to take in the beautiful views of the Tsauchab River Canyon and the surrounding sand dunes. On climbing down the dune you are rewarded with breakfast and coffee prepared by your guide in this stunning desert setting.
Revitalised we take a short drive to the starting point of our two-hour walk into the impressive, silent Hiddenvlei area of Sossusvlei, looking out for animal tracks as we walk. Here we encounter the stark and contrasting scenes of white clay pans scattered with gnarled tree trunks and encircled by orange dunes. Sossusvlei is famous for its towering sand dunes considered some of the highest in the world.
Moving on we head to the Sesriem Canyon pausing for lunch at Sesriem Camp. This unique canyon features a kilometre long gorge about 30 metres deep, which was formed by the Tsauchab River about 2 million years ago. After this busy day, we head back to our guest farm on the edge of this vast Namib Desert Park.
Our final day gets off to a relaxed start as we prepare to leave the Namib Desert behind and head back to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
We arrive in Windhoek in the afternoon, bringing the scenic Namibia Desert Budget Lodge Safari to a close.
