This affordable Zanzibar Island & Tanzania Parks Safari combines the best of East Africa's beaches and wildlife destinations in a compact and eventful budget African adventure!
This Zanzibar & Tanzania Game Parks Safari kicks off in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam where you meet up with your safari group.
A local ferry will take us from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar Island. Arriving in Zanzibar we take a Spice Tour to experience the tastes, aromas and colours of the exotic spices that give the islands their epithet - 'the Spice Islands'. Then we transfer to the northern part of Zanzibar Island where we will spend our time relaxing on the white sand beaches and swimming in the turquoise Indian Ocean.
At Nungwi Beach in Zanzibar there are various activities available, as well as excursions to explore the off-lying tropical islands and other parts of the main island. Favourite activities include snorkelling and scuba diving in the clear warm waters of the Indian Ocean to see the assortment of marine life and colourful reefs. Rent a scooter and explore on your own, or visit the Turtle Sanctuary and Jozani Forest.
We spend our third night on Zanzibar in Stone Town, exploring the historical and unique architecture of this culturally diverse town. Walk along the cobbled lanes and take in the vibrant atmosphere of the town, visit local markets and sample the fresh seafood.
An optional Activity Package is offered with this safari. The extra payment includes highly-recommended activities, considered as "essential activities" on the tour. This itinerary includes these activities. Contact African Budget Safaris for a detailed breakdown of what is included in the Activity Package. See the Full Pricing Information above for the cost of the Activity Package.
This morning there is time for a last bit of exploring before we leave the beach paradise of Zanzibar Islands, catching the ferry back to Dar es Salaam where our safari truck awaits.
Then we drive to the historic coastal town of Bagamoyo, which was once a major port in the slave and spice trade route along the East Coast of Africa. Arriving in the vibrant town we make our way to our next overnight stay, located along the beach.
The remainder of the afternoon is free for you to swim in the warm Indian Ocean, stroll on the beach and enjoy the sea views at sunset.
Today we follow a scenic route to Arusha, the gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit in Tanzania. This lively town is located near the world-famous Serengeti Park and Ngorongoro Crater Area. Here we prepare for our wildlife adventure into these top Tanzanian wildlife areas.
Greet the friendly locals with a "saitaa" in Arusha - a good place to visit local markets and get a taste of Tanzanian life. Arusha is located at the base of Mount Meru, Africa's fifth highest peak. This growing town is set in an area of Tanzania that has a cool climate and features lush green hills.
The next few days are set aside for the 3-night camping trip into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater (optional Activity Package).
This area of Tanzania has one of the densest large animal populations in Africa. The Serengeti Park and Ngorongoro Crater excursion is conducted in open-topped 4x4 safari vehicles built to handle the rough side roads in these top game parks.
Day seven is spent game viewing on the vast Serengeti Plains, following the movements of the wildlife found here. The next day we spend some time driving through Serengeti National Park, before making our way to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Descending the steep crater walls we go game viewing on the floor of the caldera, home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
For those not visiting the Serengeti Plains and Ngorongoro Crater, this is the ideal chance to absorb some of the fascinating local culture. Activities available for those staying behind in Arusha include taking day trips to Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park, as well as hikes and village tours.
On day nine of the Zanzibar & Tanzanian Game Parks Safari the group meets up again and we have the chance to exchange stories of the various adventures that we participated in over the past few days in Africa.
After crossing the border into Kenya we travel to Nairobi where this accommodated Zanzibar Beaches & Tanzanian Wildlife Safari comes to a close.
Most safari groups choose to end this African Budget Safari off with an optional meal at one of Nairobi’s excellent restaurants.
You can do this fun-packed East African Safari in the reverse order - Tanzania Game Parks & Zanzibar Safari (South), if you prefer to start in Nairobi and end in Dar es Salaam.
We recommend arriving the day before your safari and only booking flights for the day after the safari ends. We can help arrange accommodation before and after the safari on request.
