A very affordable and eventful accommodated safari to the best of East Africa's beaches and game parks!
Our Tanzania Game Parks & Zanzibar Safari departs from Nairobi, the bustling capital of Kenya, driving south across the border into Tanzania. On our way to Arusha, we may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
Greet the friendly locals with a "saitaa" in the lively town of Arusha - a good place to visit local markets and get a taste of Tanzanian life. Arusha is located at the base of Mount Meru, Africa's fifth highest peak. This growing town is set in an area of Tanzania that has a cool climate and features lush green hills.
Arusha is the gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit in Tanzania, located near the world-famous Serengeti Park and Ngorongoro Crater Area. This afternoon we prepare for our trip to the world-famous Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater.
An optional Activity Package is offered with this safari. The extra payment includes highly-recommended activities, considered as "essential activities" on the tour. This itinerary includes these activities. Contact African Budget Safaris for a detailed breakdown of what is included in the Activity Package. See the Full Pricing Information above for the cost of the Activity Package.
The next few days are set aside for the 3-night camping trip into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater (included in optional Activity Package).
This area of Tanzania has one of the densest large animal populations in Africa. The Serengeti Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion is in open topped 4x4 safari vehicles to help tackle the challenging side roads in these top game parks.
On day two we drive to the Serengeti, game viewing upon arrival. Day three is spent game viewing on the vast Serengeti Plains, following the movements of the wildlife found here. The next day, we spend some time driving through Serengeti National Park, before making our way to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. Descending the steep crater walls we go game viewing on the floor of the caldera, home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
For those not visiting the Serengeti Plains and Ngorongoro Crater, this is the ideal chance to absorb some of the fascinating local culture. Activities available for those staying behind in Arusha include taking day trips to Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park, as well as hikes, volunteering projects and village tours.
Today those that explored the Serengeti Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area will meet up with the rest of the group at the safari truck in Arusha.
Here there will be time to share tales of the memorable African wildlife encountered in these top Tanzanian Game Parks. Game viewing in the Serengeti is always an unforgettable experience and one that will be shared time and time again.
Next on this accommodated budget safari we drive to coastal Bagamoyo, founded in the late 1700's.
Today dhow sailing boats are built here and the town offers insight into the history of Tanzania, particularly the 19th century when it was a major trading post. The name Bagamoyo means “lay down your heart” and dates back to the active slave trading days in East Africa. The history of Bagamoyo includes interesting German colonial, Swahili, Arabic and Christian missionary influences.
Arriving in the vibrant town we make our way to our next overnight stay, located along the beach. The remainder of the afternoon is free for you to swim in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, walk on the beach and enjoy the sea views at sunset. This evening we get ready for our Zanzibar Island Trip, kicking off the next day.
After an early morning wake up on day seven, we leave Bagamoyo and drive to Dar es Salaam, the largest city on the East Coast of Africa.
A local ferry will take us from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar Island. From Stone Town we transfer to Nungwi Beach on the northern shores of the island, where we spend our time relaxing on the white sand beaches. On our way north we stop to visit the spice plantations of Kidichi and Kizambani. Experiencing the tastes, colours and smells of the exotic spices is a must in Zanzibar, known as 'the Spice Islands'.
At Nungwi Beach in Zanzibar there are various watersports and ocean activities available, from snorkelling to scuba diving and sailing. Explore the islands on guided trips or rent a scooter and set off on your own. Zanzibar is an idyllic tropical beach destination, so unwind in paradise and go swimming in the clear, Indian Ocean waters.
We spend our last night on Zanzibar Island near Stone Town, once a major port on the slave and spice trade routes.
Spend the last morning of your safari exploring historical Stone Town to experience the colourful mix of cultures and blend of architectural styles in this diverse town. Walk along the cobbled lanes and take in the vibrant atmosphere of the town, visit local markets and sample the fresh seafood.
This afternoon we leave the beach paradise of Zanzibar Island feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Arriving back in Dar es Salaam our Tanzania Wildlife and Zanzibar Beach adventure comes to an end. Tonight your group can meet up for an optional post-safari dinner in lively Dar es Salaam.
You can do this fun-packed East African Safari in the reverse order - Zanzibar & Tanzanian Game Parks Safari (North), if you prefer to start in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam and end in Nairobi, Kenya.
