This Budget Kenya Safari explores two iconic Kenya game reserves (Amboseli National Park and Tsavo East National Park) before heading to Diani Beach.
Spend two days on safari in Amboseli National Park, famous for its elephant herds flanked by Mount Kilimanjaro. After encountering an abundance of wildlife in Amboseli, we drive to Tsavo East National Park. The next two days are spent on game drives in this massive national park famed for the Tsavo lions. At Amboseli and Tsavo, we stay in comfortable safari lodges that provide an authentic African safari experience.
Then we drive south to the beautiful tropical, palm-fringed beaches, south of Mombasa. Here we stay in a spectacular beach resort, on the shores of the warm Indian Ocean, set in 10 acres of tropical gardens. There are numerous activities on offer at Diani Beach, as well as plenty of time to relax.
An affordable African bush and beach tour that reflects the diversity of classical Kenya.
At the start of this Budget Kenya Safari, you will be collected at Jomo Kenyatta Airport and transferred to your hotel in central Nairobi. The hotel is situated in a pleasant and safe part of Nairobi close to the city center and its attractions.
The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure, either relaxing at the hotel or exploring the busy city.
Enjoy dinner (own expense) at one of the many restaurants in the city or at your mid-range hotel.
After breakfast this morning, we head south to Amboseli National Park, the first destination on our Budget Kenya Safari. We arrive at our camp bordering on Amboseli in time for lunch.
Today and tomorrow are spent exploring Amboseli on exciting 4x4 game drives. Each day we make an early start because daybreak is the best time for spotting wildlife gathering at the waterholes.
Overlooked by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, Amboseli is one of Kenya's oldest wildlife reserves. Its fame has spread and it is one of the most popular parks in Kenya, particularly for up-close contact with the vast herds of elephants located here. Amboseli's big skies and sweeping horizons attract a variety of animals particularly the plains-loving kind such as antelopes, spotted hyenas, jackals, warthogs, olive baboons, and vervet monkeys. Whilst its swamps are home to hippo and buffalo and provide a great spot for the elephants to wallow.
Amboseli has diverse landscapes made up of the typical dried-out lakebed of Lake Amboseli, surrounded by endless grasslands, punctuated by green swamps. The park benefits from an endless underground water supply filtered through volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro’s ice cap. This funnels into two springs in the heart of the park.
Don't miss the easy climb up Observation Hill for a great 360º view, taking in the plains and, if it's a clear day, marvelous views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
During these wildlife excursions, we return to our camp for lunch and some relaxation or a swim in the pool before setting out on a late afternoon wildlife viewing drive. Dinner is served back at our safari camp where we can gather around the campfire recounting our exciting sightings with fellow travelers.
After breakfast on day four of our Budget Kenya Safari, we leave Amboseli behind and head for Tsavo East National Park.
We arrive at our comfortable safari lodge inside Tsavo East National Park in time for lunch. The lodge looks out over a dam on the Voi River where birds and wildlife can be spotted.
In the afternoon we set off on a 4x4 game drive in Tsavo East. This Kenyan park is equidistant from Nairobi and Mombasa and, jointly with Tsavo West National Park, forms the largest park in Kenya at 13747 sq kilometers. Opened in 1948 it is situated in an area that was known as the Taru Desert and is a vast, semi-arid arena of parched scrub and the heat-shimmering bush which is washed by the azure waters and emerald-fringed meanderings of the Galana River and guarded by the limitless lava reaches of the Yatta Plateau. We are fortunate to spend two days here in search of more exciting sightings, particularly on the lookout for the famous Tsavo lions.
We spend our time here on early morning and late afternoon wildlife viewing drives, spotting the bounty of animals to be found here. Some of these include the Cape buffalo, caracal, Tanzanian cheetah, leopard, a diverse abundance of antelope, zebra, black rhino, the ubiquitous elephant, and the famous Tsavo lions. Not to be outdone there are over 500 species of birds gathered here. A great spot for viewing is the Aruba Dam, whose brown waters attract thirsty wildlife and water birds.
Once again we take a break from our wildlife adventures for lunch and a rest at our safari lodge, before embarking on a late afternoon game drive. End your rewarding days on safari in Tsavo off with optional sundowners and dinner at the safari lodge.
Today we say goodbye to the African bush with its incredible wildlife, heading to the coast and its beautiful, tropical beaches. Our Budget Kenya Safari takes us to Mombasa, on the southeast coast of Kenya. From Mombasa, we take a ferry across the Likoni Channel to the sunny south coast where our beach resort lies.
Our 4-star beach resort is set along Diani Beach, one of Kenya's most beautiful white-sand beaches. The resort features a unique blend of traditional Swahili and Arabic architectural influences. It is set in over 10 acres of mature tropical gardens with coconut palms. The next five nights of our Budget Kenya Safari are spent relaxing at this laid-back beach resort.
This afternoon you are free to explore the lush resort and head to the beach or check out the activities and amenities on offer. Dinner is served at our resort on the shores of the Indian Ocean.
The next four days of our African bush and beach tour are spent at the beach. There are a plethora of activities to enjoy, as well as plenty of time to laze on the beach or at the pool. You will be spoilt for choice when you see what activities the beach resort offers, noting that some may be at extra cost.
These activities and amenities include snorkeling, scuba diving (or learning at the PADI diving school), nature walks, a floodlit tennis court, volleyball, a squash court, a fitness center, pool games, deep-sea fishing, Petanque, tables tennis, water aerobics, windsurfing, pool tables, and bird watching. Also available nearby are the Wasini/Kisite Island Marine National Park, an 18 hole golf course, shops/supermarkets, casinos, and nightclubs.
