An unforgettable Kenya Safari to Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru in the scenic Great Rift Valley of East Africa.
Explore Kenya, a leading African safari destination since the mid-19th century. This Kenya Lodge Safari is an ideal choice for those with limited time or budget, who want to experience the thrill of game viewing in the famous Masai Mara National Reserve.
Driving through the spectacular Great Rift Valley, we travel to Lake Nakuru to view the prolific birdlife, rhinos, and other wild animals. From Great Lake Nakuru, we move on to the world-renowned Masai Mara, where we spend two days exploring on game drives. The wildlife sightings on this Budget Kenya Safari are numerous and may include lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, hippos, crocodiles, wildebeest, zebra, plains game, black and white rhino, giraffe, and various antelope species.
This Kenya Safari to Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru starts with a collection from the Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi.
Departing from Nairobi we travel north through the scenic Great Rift Valley, passing Lake Naivasha and Lake Elmenteita en route to our first safari stop, Lake Nakuru National Park. We arrive at our first comfortable overnight lodge in Kenya, Lake Nakuru Lodge, in time for lunch.
This afternoon we take a game drive in Lake Nakuru Park to see the diverse birdlife found here, sometimes including huge flocks of migratory pink flamingos. Lake Nakuru National Park is the largest rhino sanctuary in Kenya so keep your eyes out for endangered rhinos along the lakeshore. The park also hosts buffalo, giraffe, waterbuck and other antelopes, leopards, pythons, lions, zebras, and baboons.
We return to the Lake Nakuru safari lodge for a swim followed by a delicious buffet dinner.
Leaving Lake Nakuru behind we set out after breakfast for the highlight of our Budget Kenya Safari, the Masai Mara. A legendary African game reserve, synonymous with the classical African safari experience.
On arrival at Masai Mara safari lodge we have lunch and then head out on an afternoon game drive across the open plains of this world-famous reserve. Home to the highest concentration of wildlife in Kenya, Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s flagship game park.
When we get back to our safari lodge there is time to cool off in the sparkling pool. Then we enjoy dinner at the lodge and spend the rest of the evening relaxing and reliving the highlights of the day.
Today we spend the whole day on safari in Masai Mara National Reserve. Established in 1961, as a wildlife sanctuary, the game reserve has grown from a mere 520 square kilometers to 1510 square kilometers.
The national reserve hosts an abundance of herbivores with hungry predators as close companions. It is well known for its vast elephant and buffalo herds and the Masai giraffe, however, it is the millions of wildebeest that the Masai Mara is probably best known.
More than a million wildebeests migrate between July and October each year, along with herds of Thompson's gazelles, zebra, topi, and eland with the big cats and other predators joining the parade. The animals head north for better grazing, following a circular route each year. This Great Migration is one of the world's most impressive natural events and a truly unforgettable sight.
At the end of our full-day Masai Mara safari, we leave the reserve behind and head back to our luxurious safari lodge for dinner and our last overnight stay.
Today we journey back to Nairobi, where our Budget Kenya Safari began.
We return to Nairobi by road, but you have the option of flying back to Nairobi at extra cost. Arriving in Nairobi we go out for lunch at the famous Carnivore Restaurant, known for its tasty barbecues with an impressive array of meats, including ostrich, crocodile, and many more, as well as fish, vegetarian choices, and salads.
After our delicious lunch, you will be transferred to the airport where this fantastic Kenya Safari to Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru finishes.
Please note that the Wildebeest Great Migration is seasonal. As a natural wildlife phenomenon, it is fluid and unpredictable. For this reason, seeing the Great Migration cannot be guaranteed.
The wildebeest and other wild herbivores migrate between Masai Mara in Kenya and Serengeti in Tanzania. These herds move in a massive circular route covering some 1200 miles (1931km). It is a continuous movement of wildlife that can be seen in different areas at different times of the year. During certain phases of this annual trek the animals disperse or slow down, whilst at other times the migration picks up speed, with the herds becoming larger and denser. Not only does the Wildebeest Great Migration vary from place to place and season to season but the movement of these large wildlife herds varies from year to year.
