Kampala -
Getting There & Away

Fly into Entebbe International Airport to access Uganda's capital, Kampala, and other travel highlights of Uganda. From the airport you can take a shuttle to Entebbe, from where you can catch a minibus taxi to Kampala. Alternatively, if you pay more you can take a private taxi from the airport to Kampala, or your lodge/hotel may be able to arrange a transfer for you. If your flight arrives at night, many advise that you stay overnight in Entebbe, to avoid hazards (bad drivers, livestock and pedestrians) on the poorly lit roads.

In Kampala the cheapest, but not safest, option is the motorcycle taxi, called the Boda-Boda. Minibus taxis (Matatus) that follow set routes are another cheap option and public buses have been introduced. Then there are the more expensive private taxis running at set fares.

For travel to other destinations in Uganda there are bus services, going as far afield as Nairobi in Kenya (overnight journey). Most travellers join an organised safari in Kampala, so that the safari company deals with the poor road conditions and secures gorilla trekking permits for Bwindi National Park (a full day's drive from Kampala).

Arriving in Uganda you should have a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate and have cash to pay for your entry visa (check prices and visa requirements before travelling).
