This 4 Day Kruger Eco Camp Safari to Klaserie Private Game Reserve in Greater Kruger Park offers the best of the spectacular Big 5 African bush.
Stay at a Greater Kruger Eco Safari Camp, where the impact on this unique natural environment is kept to a minimum. With early morning, late afternoon, and evening game drives, you are sure to be captivated by the huge range of birds and wild animals - including the Big Five of Africa.
Embark on optional walking safaris to experience all a safari in South Africa has to offer. You can't get closer to pure nature than this.
At the start of this Kruger Eco Camp Safari, our shuttle service collects you from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg or the designated pick-up point in Pretoria. First, the shuttle collects passengers from OR Tambo at 07h00 before proceeding north to Pretoria to collect any additional guests joining here, at 07h30. From Pretoria, the shuttle heads northeast to the Greater Kruger Park.
On our way to Greater Kruger Park, we drive alongside the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. Then we descend the Magoebaskloof Mountains and continue to the Kruger Lowveld region of South Africa. At about 13h15 to 13h45 the shuttle arrives at the Timbavati Gate Bush Pub & Inn close to the Timbavati Game Reserve entrance gate. Your guide from the safari lodge then collects you from the bush pub and transfers you to the eco safari camp inside Klaserie Game Reserve.
After settling in and having lunch at the eco-camp we embark on our first game drive in Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Our game drive continues into the early evening when we search for nocturnal animals with the aid of a huge spotlight on our safari vehicle.
Our rewarding game drive in Greater Kruger is followed by drinks and dinner back at the eco safari camp. Dinner is served in traditional safari style in a lamplit boma (outdoor area), around a campfire with our fellow guests.
Our Greater Kruger Eco Camp is designed and run to have as little impact on the natural environment as possible. Here you can safely experience the wonders of the African bush, without upsetting nature's delicate balance. This eco safari camp is situated within the private Klaserie Nature Reserve, forming part of Greater Kruger Park. The private game reserve offers a more exclusive safari experience without the crowds of public national parks.
The tree camp has only five tented chalets, similar to treehouses. These wood, canvas, and thatch 'treehouses' are built on stilts with balconies, that offer views over African bush where wild animals roam freely. Each of the 5 chalets has an en-suite bathroom and is positioned to ensure privacy for our guests, who never number more than 10. If we want company there is an open, thatch-roofed lounge, where we can meet fellow guests and share our experiences. Should the heat become unbearable, there is a splash pool for cooling down. All lighting is provided by solar power, to ensure minimal impact on the environment, and each chalet has a plug point for charging camera batteries.
Dinner is served in the main thatch-roofed area. There is also an outdoor boma, with a traditional safari campfire - a place to enjoy drinks before/after dinner, make friends, discuss the day's sightings and just enjoy the African night. The eco safari camp is lit only by lanterns, to give you the true African safari feeling. The intimacy and the warm hospitality of this eco safari camp make for a memorable safari in South Africa.
The next two days of our Kruger Eco Camp Safari follow the same routine. The events and sightings of the day are always completely different, however. Each African safari adventure is a unique experience with potential new discoveries.
The limited number of camps in Klaserie Private Nature Reserve ensures a limited number of guests, which creates the feeling of having the game reserve all to yourself. It's unlikely that you will meet any other guests on your game drives here. Game drives always start early to take advantage of the cool of the day when the animals are their most active. By the time the sun has reached its zenith, the animals retreat to the shade to take refuge from the heat.
Our early wake-up is eased with coffee and a light breakfast before our adventure begins. The sights and sounds of the African bush waking up are spectacular. Many of the wild animals have become accustomed to the safari vehicles, consequently, they don't see them as a threat, which allows us to drive within 5 to 10 meters of them. We return to the tree camp around 09h00 for a delicious brunch. Afterward, the morning is ours to relax or enjoy an optional bush walk.
The guided bush walks offer a greater sense of intimacy, getting you up closer to nature. Our experienced, armed guides and trackers are there to ensure your safety, as well as sharing the secrets of the African bush. The guides brief you on how to react should you encounter a large animal in the wild. They also tell you all about the secrets of tracking wildlife, the complexities of termite mounds, and many other interesting facts.
Each day, after a late lunch, we embark on a late afternoon game drive. Along the way, we stop to watch the sunset and enjoy sundowner drinks and snacks, before going in search of the nocturnal animals. Returning to camp between 19h00 and 20h00, we can enjoy a drink at the bar before dinner at 20h00. After dinner, make your way to the campfire where tea, coffee, and drinks are served under spectacular African night skies.
Our Greater Kruger Eco Safari Camp is situated in the Klaserie Private Game Reserve of Greater Kruger Park. Greater Kruger is a massive wildlife park incorporating Kruger National Park and the surrounding private game reserves, such as Klaserie Reserve. Klaserie is a private game reserve of over 60 000 hectares, hosting a variety of habitats and an incredible diversity of wild animals.
The pride of lions living in Klaserie has been followed for years and other resident big cats include leopards and cheetahs. The Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant) cohabit with giraffe, zebra, warthog, hyena, various buck, and primates. Nocturnal creatures include wild dogs, cheetahs, bat-eared foxes, and civet cats.
Birdlife in Greater Kruger Park is also prolific, and you're sure to see hundreds of different species, including vultures, eagles, starlings, and shrikes.
Run by an NGO (non-governmental organization) the aim is to maintain the Reserve in a pristine condition by minimizing the human footprint. The management is involved in conservation efforts in particular with regard to Rhino protection, an elephant project, and a Ground Hornbill project. In 2004 a project was initiated to educate the children of employees of the reserve on the beautiful environment they live in. The aim is to create an awareness of the importance of conservation in order for the children to take ownership of the Reserve and build a platform for future generations. This project, The Children's Environmental Education Project, has expanded into a charitable foundation to offer local children quality basic education.
We have time for one last morning game drive on day four of our Kruger Eco Camp Safari. First, we enjoy a light breakfast at the eco-camp and then we head back out into Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Your guide goes in search of any wildlife species that you may have missed thus far.
Then your guide takes you back to the rendezvous point of the bush pub near Timbavati Game Reserve. The shuttle collects you at about 10h45 and drives you back to the designated drop-off point in Pretoria at 17h00, and then OR Tambo in Johannesburg, arriving at 18h00.
Pick-up and drop-off are at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and a designated point in Pretoria. For more details and times please enquire. Transport to and from these set locations is not included in the tour price.
