Itinerary for this Tour

Private tour departures are available on request (at extra cost) and can be arranged daily, subject to availability. Contact us, for pricing on custom Private Kruger Safari departures.

Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger Park – South Africa

This 4-day Budget Kruger Park Safari starts in the vibrant city of Johannesburg or in Nelspruit. On the first day, you are collected from the OR Tambo International Airport early in the morning. Alternatively, guests are collected from their pre-safari hotel close to the airport (5km radius) by arrangement. From Johannesburg, the economic capital of South Africa, your driver transfers you to Kruger National Park in our air-conditioned tour vehicle. This journey takes us via Nelspruit. You have the option of starting your Kruger Safari in Nelspruit, instead of Johannesburg, if you prefer.

Along the way to Kruger National Park, we stop for two comfort breaks and lunch (own account). When we arrive at Kruger Park you are transferred to the open safari vehicle for your first game drive. As we enter South Africa’s premier game reserve, Kruger Park, the game viewing adventures begin!

We make our way to our well-equipped rest camp in southern Kruger National Park, spotting wildlife along the way. Arriving at our rest camp your safari guide helps you check into your air-conditioned bungalow accommodation. Then you have some free time to freshen up before dinner. A hearty South African dinner is served in our private dining area at camp or in the camp restaurant. Dinner will be the culinary treat of a traditional South African meal, giving you a taste of truly South African cuisine. This tasty local meal can be accompanied by fine South African wine or alternative drinks which you can purchase at the camp shop.

After dinner, you can retire to your chalet for a good night’s rest or relax around the campfire recollecting the wildlife adventures of your first game viewing drive in Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s best game reserves. The Kruger camps are all fenced in to protect visitors from the predators inhabiting Kruger, one of Africa's top Big Five national parks.

  • Meals included: Dinner
  • Accommodation: En-suite, air-conditioned bungalow at Kruger Rest Camp
  • Safari Activities: Afternoon game drive in Kruger National Park

About Kruger National Park

South Africa's flagship national park, Kruger National Park is world-renowned for its superb game viewing and is one of Africa's largest and best game reserves. Kruger National Park is home to an unsurpassed diversity of African wildlife (including the Big Five) and is considered a world leader in advanced environmental policies and management techniques.

Kruger National Park is a huge game reserve covering almost 20,000 km² (or some 7,600 miles²), about the size of Israel. The premier national park in South Africa, Kruger is home to more species of big mammals than any other game reserve in Africa. Large predators include lions, cheetahs, leopards, and wild dogs. Other wildlife species include buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, crocodiles, hippos, and all kinds of antelopes.

Day 2 & 3: Kruger National Park Safari – South Africa

An early morning wake-up call from your safari guide gets day two of your Budget Kruger Park Safari started. Once you are up, head to the dining area at the rest camp for a fresh cup of coffee or tea and rusks (local tea biscuits).

On this Kruger Park Safari, the game drives are flexible. This means that the departure and return times, the duration, and the routes followed on your game drives, vary according to local conditions and your group's preferences. Mornings typically include extended game drives followed by slightly shorter explorations in the afternoons. The specifics of the game drives do however depend on the wildlife sightings and weather, your preferences, and your guide's expertise.

On some days of this Kruger Safari, it may be possible to opt for full-day game drives, instead of morning and afternoon drives, subject to group consensus. This way you'll head out in the morning and only return to camp in the late afternoon. While the game drive times are flexible, the wishes of the entire group will be considered when deciding on the plan for the day.

A typical day on safari in Kruger Park is as follows. After our early morning snack, we set off on a morning game drive as soon as the park opens. Mornings are an excellent time of day for game viewing with many animals being active at this time. Your guide takes you out in the open 4x4 safari vehicle following routes that provide superb photographic and game viewing opportunities.

Upon our return from the morning game drive brunch will be served at camp. Brunch is followed by leisure time at the Kruger camp during which you are free to enjoy the camp facilities or take a rest. Facilities include a swimming pool, restaurant, shop, and cafeteria. Later, we embark on an afternoon game drive in our 4x4 safari vehicle. Late afternoon game drives on your Kruger Park Safari offer great opportunities for spotting and photographing wildlife in the African bush. After your second game drive of the day, you have time to freshen up in your en-suite chalet before dinner. A tasty dinner is served in the dining area or restaurant of the camp, followed by free time to unwind around the campfire.

  • Meals included: Breakfast & Dinner
  • Accommodation: En-suite, air-conditioned bungalow at a top Kruger Rest Camp
  • Safari Activities: Morning & afternoon (or full-day) game drive in Kruger National Park

Please note: You have the option of exploring the Panorama Route (at extra cost) on day 3 of your Kruger Park Safari instead of doing game drives in Kruger Park. Alternatively, you can add an extra night's stay to explore the Panorama Route from Hazyview, after this Kruger Safari.

Day 4: Kruger Park to Johannesburg – South Africa

On the final day of this 4-day Budget Kruger Park Safari, we get an early start to enjoy one last game drive in our open safari vehicle.

This final game drive gives you a chance to photograph and tick off any of the African wildlife that you may have missed on the previous game drives. The early morning game drive is followed by breakfast at camp before we leave Kruger National Park. Then it is time to depart, keeping an eye out for wildlife as we exit Kruger National Park (at about 11h00).

Leaving Kruger behind, we transfer to our air-conditioned tour vehicle and drive back to Johannesburg, via Nelspruit. We arrive back in the big city between 16h00 and 17h00. Your driver drops you off at the OR Tambo International Aiport or nearby hotel, bringing our budget-friendly Kruger Park Safari to a close.

  • Meals included: Breakfast
  • Safari Activities: Morning game drive in Kruger National Park

Optional Panorama Route Tour

An optional Panorama Route Tour can be added to your Kruger Park Safari, at an additional cost. There are two tour options available. Either you can add an extra night's stay, in Hazyview, after your Kruger Safari to explore South Africa’s renowned Panorama Route. Or, you can do a Panorama Route Tour on day 3 of your safari, at extra cost, instead of game viewing in Kruger Park. Most guests choose to extend their safaris by one extra night in order to explore the Panorama Route after visiting Kruger.

One of the most scenic parts of South Africa, the Panorama Route highlights include the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, God’s Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and Graskop Gorge, where you can take the lift down into the gorge and lush forest below. To add the Panorama Route Tour to your safari, simply request this add-on when booking your Kruger Safari with us.

Kruger Bungalow Safari Accommodation

On this Budget Kruger Park Safari guests stay in en-suite bungalow (chalet) accommodation at one of the popular rest camps in southern Kruger National Park.

Guests typically stay at Kruger's main rest camp, Skukuza Rest Camp. Alternatively, we use Lower Sabie Rest Camp or Pretoriuskop Rest Camp, depending on availability. All three of these Kruger rest camps are well-equipped and comfortable. They each have a swimming pool, restaurant, cafeteria, and other convenient facilities.

The chalet accommodation is air-conditioned and en-suite. The bungalows in Kruger National Park are basic and comfortable and serviced daily. Each bungalow is furnished with two or three single beds and fitted with linen, towels, and a small bathroom. All units have a small fridge and a kettle. The en-suite facilities include a shower, toilet, and basin. The windows and doors of the bungalows are all fitted with mosquito screens.

Kruger Park Safari Note

This is a shared, group tour traveling with a maximum of 9 people per vehicle. Groups of over 9 people are split over multiple vehicles and guides. Custom, private tours for groups of less than 9 people can be arranged at extra cost.

Night game drives can be arranged on request and must be pre-booked (at an additional charge) in advance. Night drives are conducted by the SANParks rangers.

Unlike many other Budget Kruger Safaris, these group safaris are closed and do not collect new guests at the gate every day. On these Kruger Safaris guests arriving on different days do not share the same safari vehicles.

Although each safari vehicle is equipped with one or more sets of courtesy binoculars for shared use during game drives, we recommend bringing your own for optimal game viewing.

Tailor-made & Private Kruger Safari Options

This Kruger Park Safari is available as a private group tour at extra cost. Private safari bookings are not limited to the scheduled departure dates listed here. The private tour departures are available on any date with a minimum of two people, subject to availability.

Private safaris for groups of 2 to 5 people cost extra and quotes are available on request. For private group bookings of more than 6 people, the price of this Kruger Safari is the same as shown above.

The private tour departures are subject to the availability of accommodation in Kruger National Park. Accommodation during peak seasons such as school holidays (Easter, July, Christmas, and annual events like the Skukuza marathon) is limited thus we recommend booking well in advance.

Private Kruger Safaris can be tailormade to include night game drives, Panorama Route trips, and more. On custom safaris, you can combine private safari lodges in the Kruger National Park with the Greater Kruger area.

Private safaris can also be arranged for families with children younger than 8 years (the minimum age on scheduled group safaris).

For more information about private tours and pricing please contact African Budget Safaris.
