This 4-day Kruger Park Bungalow Safari takes you on exhilarating 4x4 game drives in world-famous Kruger National Park.
Accommodation is in comfortable en-suite bungalows with air-conditioning at Skukuza rest camp inside Kruger Park. This fantastic wildlife adventure gives budget conscious travelers the opportunity to photograph and encounter Africa’s Big Five and an abundance of birds and other African wildlife in Kruger Park, South Africa’s leading national park.
The Kruger Bungalow Safari includes game drives, trained safari guides, park entry fees, an optional Panorama Route trip, meals and drinks on the itinerary and more – a great value-for-money Kruger Park Safari package!
The four-day Kruger Park Bungalow Safari starts in the vibrant city of Johannesburg where you will be collected from your pre-tour accommodation (hotel/guesthouse) or from the OR Tambo International Airport (at a small extra cost) between 6:30 and 8:00am.
From Johannesburg we travel east to the Kruger National Park, South Africa’s premier game reserve, in a closed, air-conditioned vehicle. We stop for lunch (own account) in a small town along the way, arriving at the famous Kruger Park in the afternoon.
Entering the game-rich Kruger reserve we make our way to Skukuza rest camp (or Berg-en-Dal from 01 August), located on the banks of the Sabie River in the heart of this nearly 2 million hectare national park. The game viewing begins as soon as we enter the gates of this diverse game park, heading to Skukuza, the largest rest camp inside Kruger National Park. Upon arrival at Skukuza rest camp your safari guide will help you check into your air conditioned, en suite bungalow accommodation inside Kruger National Park, one of Africa's top Big Five national parks. The Kruger camps are all fenced in to protect visitors from the predators inhabiting the game park.
After settling in at Kruger Park’s most popular rest camp we embark on our first game viewing drive in search of the abundant wildlife inhabiting this expansive game park.
This sunset game drive is conducted by a SANParks game ranger in an official Kruger Park vehicle. It is not a private group game drive; which means other guests may join the drive. The advantage of taking a sunset game drive with SANParks is that the official rangers are allowed to return to camp after the normal gate closing times. The sunset game drive in Kruger Park is ideal for spotting nocturnal animals that become more active after dark.
Please Note: Children under the age of six are not permitted on the SANPark game drive.
Back at our Skukuza rest camp there will be some free time before dinner, which is served at the private dining facility at camp. Dinner will be the hearty culinary treat of a traditional South African meal, giving you a taste of truly South African cuisine, prepared by your hostess. This tasty local meal includes fine South African wine, or you can purchase alternative drinks at the camp shop.
After dinner you can retire to your chalet for a good night’s rest or relax around the campfire recollecting the wildlife adventures of your first game viewing drive in Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s best game reserves.
As of 01 August 2017 accommodation will be at Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp instead of Skukuza. In the rare case that Berg-en-Dal is fully booked, we stay at either Skukuza or Pretoriuskop rest camps. When you enquire about the tour we will inform you if an alternative to Berg-en-Dal rest camp is to be used.
South Africa's flagship national park, Kruger National Park is world-renowned for its superb game viewing and is one of Africa's largest and best game reserves.
Kruger National Park is home to an unsurpassed diversity of African wildlife (including the Big Five) and is considered a world leader in advanced environmental policies and management techniques.
Skukuza is a well-vegetated camp set among big indigenous trees along the Sabie River inside the vast Kruger Park. Lions are frequently sighted in the Skukuza area, as well as a variety of other wild animals, including the Big Five, along with an array of bird species. Within Skukuza camp, which acts as the headquarters for conservation and research in Kruger Park, you can spot the nocturnal fruit bat as well as tree-climbing bush baby and genets.
Located on the banks of the Matjulu Spruit in the south-western part of Kruger Park, Berg-en-Dal is surrounded by rocky hills and dry riverbeds. This is one of the newer camps in Kruger Park (opened in 1984), and much of the natural woodland vegetation remains in tact. The rugged mountainous area around the camp features some unusual plant species, and big trees along the riverbeds, including red bush-willow and magic guarri.
The woodlands and grassy plains between the hills attract plenty of herbivores, including kudu, impala, reedbuck, klipspringer, grey rhebok and giraffe. White rhino, leopard and African wild dog are often spotted near Berg-en-Dal, and sometimes elephant.
An early morning wake up call from your safari guide gets the day started with the rising time depending on when the park gates open. The opening hours of Kruger gates vary in different seasons according to Kruger Park management practices. Once you are up you can head to the dining facility at the rest camp for coffee or tea and rusks (local tea biscuits).
After the morning snack we set off on a morning game drive, an excellent time of day for game viewing, in an open 4x4 safari vehicle. The morning bush drive lasts for about three to four hours and follows routes that provide superb photographic and game viewing opportunities.
Upon our return from the morning drive brunch will be served at one of the dining facilities at Skukuza rest camp. Brunch is followed by leisure time at the Kruger camp during which you are free to enjoy the camp facilities or take a rest. Facilities at Skukuza rest camp include a museum, swimming pools and a shop selling African curios, food and drinks. Otherwise you could relax on the restaurant viewing deck overlooking the Sabie River or explore the bush camp on foot.
Then we embark on an afternoon game drive in a specially designed, open 4x4 safari vehicle that provides the best visibility for optimal game viewing. Late afternoon game drives on your Kruger Park safari offer great opportunities for spotting and photographing wildlife in the African bush.
After the game drive you have time to freshen up at your en-suite Kruger camp chalets before dinner, which will be served in the centrally located dining facility.
You also have the option of exploring the Panorama Route on a free day tour instead of the game drives today, or tomorrow.
Day three of the Kruger Park Bungalow Safari starts with another early morning wake up call from your safari guide.
The day again begins with a refreshing coffee or tea before we embark on an exciting morning game drive in the African bush. The game viewing drive is followed by brunch back at the rest camp, after which you are free to take a rest or enjoy Skukuza and the camp facilities.
The afternoon game drive takes you back into wilderness to encounter the diverse wildlife of Kruger National Park. The game viewing drive lasts for about three to four hours, returning to Skukuza camp before the camp gates close.
Back at our Kruger camp there is time to freshen up before dinner, which is served in the private dining area.
On the final day of this 4-day Kruger Park Safari we get an early start so that we can enjoy one last game drive in our open safari vehicle. This drive gives you a chance to photograph and tick off any of the African wildlife that you may have missed on the previous game viewing drives. The early morning game drive is followed by breakfast at camp, before we leave Kruger Park.
Leaving Skukuza we make our way to one of the Kruger exit gates, game viewing from the enclosed transfer vehicle en route.
From Kruger National Park we take the six hour drive back to Johannesburg, arriving at your hotel, guest house, or at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport (small extra cost) where this Budget Kruger Park Safari ends.
You have the option of exploring South Africa’s renowned Panorama Route from Kruger, in place of game viewing on either day two or three.
One of the most scenic parts of South Africa, the Panorama Route highlights include the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Lisbon Waterfalls and God’s Window. The Panorama Route day trip sets off after breakfast (between 8h00 and 08h30) and stops for lunch (own account) in the quaint town of Graskop. After visiting the scenic attractions on the Panorama Route we return to Kruger, arriving back at Skukuza between 17h00 and 18h00.
You can replace game viewing on day two or three with the Panorama Route tour, deciding which day you prefer to replace during the course of your safari.
Please Note: The free Panorama Route trip is not available on the first and last day of the safari, due to the long travelling distances and time constraints.
Stay in en-suite chalets fitted with beds, linen, towels and soap. These air-conditioned chalets feature a small fridge and mosquito netting on the doors and windows.
This four-day Kruger National Park Safari is also available as a shorter three-day safari or as longer five, six and seven day Kruger safari packages.
The 4 Days Kruger Park Camping Safari follows a similar itinerary to this accommodated Kruger safari, but includes camping accommodation at Pretoriuskop Restcamp instead.
There is also an upgraded camping option at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp, where guests stay in huts fitted with beds. The ablutions are shared and serviced frequently. For the upgraded camping tour price see the full pricing or contact us for more details.
