Join us for the road trip of a lifetime! Our group adventure tour is a safe and affordable way to explore the Western Cape, Little Karoo, Whale Route, and Route 62. The tour has a good mix of nature, culture and adventure, so you can experience the best that the Garden Route has to offer. This tour starts and ends in Cape Town and Stellenbosch, departing every Friday.
Be ready for an early start from Cape Town and/or Stellenbosch on Friday morning! We will depart for Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, driving along Route 62. The road will take us through some spectacular scenery via mountainous arid semi-desert landscapes. Route 62 is known as the longest wine route in South Africa, so it is no surprise that our day will include a delicious lunch and wine tasting at one of the local wine farms. A highlight of the day will be exploring the Cango Caves where trained guides will take us on an adventure tour of the dripstone caverns that cut deep into the limestone rock of the Swartberg Mountains. Our day will conclude with a typical South African braai (barbecue).
After enjoying breakfast, we depart for Mossel Bay via the Robertson Pass from where we get our first view of one of South Africa’s most beautiful regions – the Garden Route. There will be time to walk along the beautiful white beaches on the Cape St Blaize Trail which traces the seaside cliffs where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. For those who like history, a visit to the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex will be well worth their while. The complex, named after a Portuguese seafarer, includes a Maritime Museum, a Shell Museum and aquarium, and botanical gardens. For those who like action and an adrenalin rush, there is the opportunity to do a tandem skydive or go sandboarding on South Africa’s longest dune. We will spend the afternoon on a private game reserve, where a trained guide will take us on a drive where we hope to see a variety of game, including lion, buffalo and zebra.
On day 3 we are on our way along the coastal highway to Tsitsikamma National Park. We will stop at the 216 meters high Bloukrans bridge where the brave can take on the world’s highest bungee jump! During the afternoon we can explore Tsitsikamma National Park known for its breathtaking coastline and forest. Activities that are available include hiking the beautiful indigenous forest trails, crossing a suspension bridge over the Storms River and swimming. Optional activities include kayak and lilo adventures down the Storms River. By late afternoon we will travel to Sedgefield where we will spend the night. There will still be time for a walk along its beautiful beaches and fynbos covered dunes. Dinner will be enjoyed at a beach bar where a traditional potjie (stew) will be on the menu.
On our last day, we visit Wilderness National Park. Here we will explore the meandering Touw River by canoe. After canoeing for about 40 minutes, we will take an easy 2 km hike to a beautiful waterfall with rock pools. Then it will be time to drive back to Cape Town where we should arrive between 17:00 and 19:00.
