An affordable, short Addo Park Safari you'll be forever glad you took.
This Full-Day Addo Elephant Park Safari starts in Port Elizabeth where you are collected from your accommodation at 7:30 in the morning. Leaving Port Elizabeth we make our way straight to Addo Elephant National Park. A short drive of about 35 minutes brings us to the south entrance of the national park.
Arriving at Addo Park we check-in and take a brief comfort break before embarking on our exciting game drive in the untamed bush. Entering the park we make our way north as we scan for wildlife, birds and other creatures. Addo is a stronghold for African elephants, which we are sure to see, along with an array of other large mammals, including lions, buffalos and rhinos. During the game drive, we pause to watch any interesting animal or bird sightings and take photographs. We also stop to stretch our legs and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee or tea at the picnic area inside Addo Park. After our coffee break, we proceed north passing several watering holes where animals often congregate to drink and bathe.
Reaching the main rest camp in Addo, we have a light lunch at the park's restaurant and relax in the shade. Then we make our way back south through the national park watching for wildlife action along the way. We exit the park via the south gate later this afternoon and return to Port Elizabeth. Back in the city, you can choose to be dropped off at one of Port Elizabeth's excellent restaurants or at your accommodation in the early evening, bringing your action-packed day safari to a close.
Addo Elephant National Park is rated as one of the best national parks in South Africa. It is the third-largest national park in the country and one of the few large, malaria-free Big Five game parks.
In 1931 Addo Elephant National Park was established to protect the last 11 elephants found in the region. Remarkably, the park's elephant population has grown to almost 700 elephants today! Addo is now home to one of the largest elephant populations on the continent and ranked as one of the best places to see elephants in Africa.
Addo is also home to the other Big Five animals of Africa, namely rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Other large animals that are regularly spotted include zebras, kudus, eland, bushbuck and red hartebeest. The strange-looking inhabitants, you're most likely to see are warthogs and ostriches. Last, but not least you may come across the rare flightless dung beetle endemic to this part of the world and if you do, these little critters have right of way on the roads.
