This South Luangwa National Park Safari in Zambia departs from Malawi's capital city of Lilongwe, where you will be collected.
We leave Lilongwe at 9h00, driving to Mchinji, near the Zambian border. Completing border formalities a short drive takes us to the lively town of Chipata, the capital of the Eastern Province of Zambia. From friendly Chipata, we follow a dirt road into the Mfuwe area of Luangwa Valley. The Luangwa Valley covers 9050 km² of unspoiled woodland and riverine vegetation, home to over 40 mammal and 650 bird species.
Along the way we stop to enjoy a picnic lunch, arriving at our overnight safari lodge by the mid-afternoon. Welcome drinks are served when we arrive and then we check in. We settle into our chalets, enjoy tea and coffee and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing before dinner, served from 19h30 onwards.
Note: There is the option of taking a late afternoon game drive in South Luangwa (at extra cost).
Day two of this South Luangwa Safari kicks off with an early morning wake up call for some tea, coffee and a light snack before we venture into the African bush.
We aim to embark on our morning game drive in South Luangwa Park at 6h00, as mornings are an excellent time for game viewing. The game drives in Luangwa Park, Zambia's top wilderness area, are conducted in specially modified safari vehicles to ensure the best wildlife experience in this unspoilt wilderness area. The open game viewing vehicles are designed for comfort and optimal visibility on the game viewing drives. We take drinks and snacks with us to enjoy on our game drives in this wild African game park.
Then we make our way back to the safari lodge in time for a delicious brunch (early lunch), depending on our luck with spotting animals in South Luangwa National Park. This afternoon you can visit a local village to experience a bit of rural Zambian life. Alternatively, you can relax at the lodge, take a swim and rest before having tea and setting off on our late afternoon game drive.
We set off at about 15h30 as the heat of the day subsides and wildlife begins to stir again. After our rewarding game drive in this pristine wilderness area of Zambia, we return to the lodge, at around 19h30, for dinner and a laid-back evening.
South Luangwa Park is renowned for its excellent night game viewing drives, which are included in this African Safari. On night drives a powerful spotlight is used to sight nocturnal creatures roaming in the bush. You also have the option of embarking on a full day game drive or a game walk in season (extra cost activities).
Day three follows the same program, with two game drives and free time in between to unwind and explore.
Today we enjoy a full breakfast at a leisurely pace, before packing up and returning to Malawi.
We enjoy a picnic lunch along the way and arrive back in Lilongwe at about 15h00. A free drop off service is offered in Lilongwe, bringing this memorable South Luangwa National Park Zambia Safari to a close.
