This short Cape Town Tour Package mixes the thrill of encountering Africa's big game in the wild, with the bliss of sipping fine wines in the idyllic Cape Winelands and taking in the spectacular sights of the rugged Cape Peninsula - a rare and delightful find at an affordable price!
This Cape Town Package includes a full day safari to the Big Five Inverdoorn Game Reserve, located two and a half hours' drive from Cape Town.
We set off for Inverdoorn early in the morning, departing from the guesthouse in Sea Point between 06h15 and 07h00. Leaving the city in our air-conditioned transfer vehicle we drive into the Cape Winelands, admiring the scenic landscapes in the soft early morning light. Continuing into the Klein Karoo we pass through the famous Ceres Valley, with its lush fruit orchards and vineyards stretched out at the foot of the lofty Boland Mountains. Beyond the fertile Ceres Valley lies the semi-arid Klein Karoo, a beautiful and remote region south of the Swartberg Mountains in the Western Cape.
Soon we arrive at the acclaimed game reserve, where welcome drinks are served. Then we board an open 4x4 safari vehicle for our rewarding two-hour game drive in the 10 000 hectare wilderness area. This game-rich reserve is home to all of the famous Big Five of Africa (buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion and leopard) - one of the few places to see the Big Five in the Western Cape of South Africa.
Inverdoorn also hosts cheetahs, jackals, hippos, zebras, giraffes and numerous kinds of plains game, such as eland, gemsbok, kudu, impala, springbok and wildebeest. In addition to the over 1200 wild animals at Inverdoorn, numerous local and migratory bird species have been spotted. These bird species include African fish eagles, black-breasted snake eagles, giant kingfishers, Cape vultures, Cape eagle owls, flamingos, ostriches, secretary birds, sacred ibis, black stork and jackal buzzard, amongst many.
Get up close to the free-roaming wildlife and birds inhabiting this malaria-free game reserve as you explore in the open safari vehicle. Out in the bush, your professional guide can tell you about the amazing animals, birds and plants of the region.
Your day safari in Inverdoorn includes lunch under the trees or in the boma (open-air style) restaurant. During the day we also visit the Lion Preservation Project at Inverdoorn, to discover more about these majestic big cats and the conservation work being done to ensure their survival. If time allows you may get to walk with the resident giraffes, at the game ranger's discretion. In between the game viewing highlights you are free to cool off in the pool, or sidle up to the fireplace in winter.
Explore both the famous Cape Wine Route and the coastal highlights of the Cape Peninsula in one day! Your Cape Peninsula & Cape Wine Route Day Tour takes you to the beautiful Stellenbosch area and along the stunning coastline of the Cape of Good Hope. In the morning you are collected from your Sweetest Guesthouse between 08h00 and 09h00.
Half of the day is spent sightseeing along the rugged Cape Peninsula coastline, tracing the Atlantic Ocean from Sea Point around Cape Point to False Bay. This incredible drive takes in the best of Cape Town's white sand beaches, quaint seaside villages, dramatic coastal cliffs and wild natural areas hosting the unique Fynbos vegetation of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
For the second half of the day we drive out to the historic, university town of Stellenbosch, set in the idyllic Cape Winelands. We explore Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in the country, to see its historical sights and national monuments, as well as the quaint shops and art galleries along its oak-lined streets. Our tour of the charming town is combined with a wine tasting tour at a local wine estate - a real highlight in the top wine-growing region of South Africa. At the wine farm near Stellenbosch we also take a tour of the wine cellar, browse the wine shop and do some cheese tasting, in addition to sampling the fine wines.
