Aquila is an affordable and family-friendly Cape Town Safari destination. While not located in the Mother City itself, Aquila is one of the closest Big 5 game reserves to Cape Town. It is therefore one of the very few places to offer Big 5 day safaris from Cape Town, as well as overnight safaris.
Due to Aquila's location, only two hours from Cape Town, it is ideal for Big 5 safaris from Cape Town, especially for families traveling with young children.
In Aquila Game Reserve, kids of all ages are allowed on the guided game drives, under adult supervision. Other amenities and exciting things for kids to do in Aquila Game Reserve include a junior game ranger program, miniature golf, an outdoor and indoor playground, play stations, and a swimming pool. The game reserve also offers quad biking and horseback safaris for guests over the age of 16 years.
The shortest (and cheapest) Aquila safari options are the half-day and full-day safari packages from Cape Town. These short Big 5 safari tours include guided game drives in open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles, specified meals and drinks, and transfers from Cape Town (return).
Although the full-day safaris from Cape Town offer good value-for-money, they are very short and entail a lot of driving in one day. So, we recommend spending at least one night in Aquila Game Reserve to give you more time to enjoy the lodge and do more game drives and other activities (horse riding, spa treatments, etc).
