Go on a Big 5 safari adventure in Kruger National Park, South Africa's most popular game reserve. Stay at a small tented camp in Pretoriuskop Rest Camp, within Kruger National Park, getting up close to the African wilderness. Accommodation is in safari-style tents offering extra space and comfort, including twin beds, electricity, and fans.
Go game viewing with experienced guides, exploring Kruger in open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles on extensive game drives. Also, embark on an optional early morning game walk (at a small extra fee) with the official Kruger rangers, getting a closer look at the details of the African bushveld. Spotting the Big Five and a wide array of other wild animals and birds is the absolute highlight of this Kruger National Park Safari adventure!
Your Kruger National Park Safari begins when you are collected from the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg early this morning. From the airport, we travel to Hazyview via Pretoria where guests can opt to be collected, in a luxury shuttle. You arrive in Hazyview, a small town near Kruger, between 11h45 and 12h15. In Hazyview, you can have lunch (own account) at Perry's Bridge Trading Post before your safari driver collects you and transfers you to Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park. The drive from Hazyview to our tented camp in Kruger takes about an hour.
To set the tone for this unique South African safari experience, a qualified and experienced guide takes you on a beautiful, 3-hour sunset game drive. After your first exciting game drive in an open-sided 4x4 safari vehicle, return to the tented camp for dinner under the African night sky or at the camp’s restaurant.
Day two of your Kruger National Park Safari kicks off with an early morning game drive. Your qualified guide takes you out into the bush in an open-sided safari vehicle for a full day of game viewing. We explore the park for eight to 10 hours, sighting a variety of animals, birds, reptiles, and plants. Kruger National Park is famous for its exceptional sightings of Africa's Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant) so keep your cameras ready. Along the way, we stop for comfort breaks at scenic picnic spots or rest camps.
Later, we pause for lunch at one of the Kruger rest camps. Here we take a longer break to stretch our legs and enjoy lunch at the camp restaurant or deli (own account). Then we continue exploring Kruger, the leading safari destination in South Africa.
After an exciting day of game viewing, we drive back to our tented camp at Pretoriuskop. Spend the evening relaxing at camp and enjoy dinner around the campfire or in the camp's restaurant.
On day two or three of this Kruger Safari, you can replace your full-day game drive with an optional day trip (at extra cost) to the scenic Panorama Route of South Africa. This optional Panorama Route Tour can be done in lieu of a full-day game drive in Kruger National Park and is available as an optional extra activity at additional cost.
Your unforgettable Kruger safari adventure continues with more options for making the experience completely your own. You can start the day with an optional bush walk, set off on a full-day 4x4 game drive to see more of the park, or venture out of the park on a relaxing trip to the Panorama Route. This Panorama Route day tour is an optional activity (at extra cost) that will replace your full-day game drive in Kruger National Park should you opt-in.
Today you'll be adding new animal sightings to your list, from hippos and zebras to giraffes and African wild dogs. Predators to look out for include cheetahs, lions, leopards, hyenas, crocodiles, and more. As on day two of our Kruger National Park Safari, lunch (own account) is enjoyed at one of the well-established rest camps. Then we continue to explore the epic African park that is Kruger. At the end of an exciting day in the bush, we return to the tented camp where you can take a dip in the swimming pool, and visit the bar or shop.
Whether you chose to stay in the park or go sightseeing, the day ends with dinner at the tented camp in Kruger National Park. Settle in for a laid-back evening around the campfire with dinner served under the stars or in the camp's restaurant.
Wake up early for a final sunrise game drive in Kruger National Park this morning. The Kruger is vast (larger than Israel) so you’ll be sure to see parts of it you still hadn’t seen during your stay. Your guide will focus on animals you may not have found on the other game drives, pointing out wildlife and interesting sights along the way. As you go your guide shares more information about the indigenous flora, fauna, and the geology of this magnificent region.
You will return to the tented camp for a relaxed breakfast before, freshening up and making your way back to Perry's Bridge Trading Post in Hazyview. From there, your air-conditioned shuttle picks you up between 12h15 and 12h30 and drives you back to Johannesburg. Back in Johannesburg, you are dropped off at the O.R. Tambo International Airport at about 18h00, bringing our Kruger Safari adventure to a close.
An optional (extra cost) morning bush walk with one of the SANParks game rangers can be pre-booked on this Kruger Safari. This optional game walk takes place early in the morning, before the full-day game drive in Kruger, and thus does not change the itinerary above. The guided game walk must be pre-booked and is subject to availability and weather conditions. (See the Full Pricing Info above for details).
You can do an optional (extra cost) full-day Panoramic Route Day excursion instead of one of your full-day game drives in Kruger National Park. This is a visit to the third deepest canyon in the world, Blyde River Canyon, as well as other breathtaking places. The easy, relaxing day trip will have stops and walks at Graskop Gorge, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Pinnacle, Lisbon Falls, and the Three Rondavels among other places. Breakfast and dinner are included.
On this Kruger National Park Safari, we stay at the Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. The tented camp serves as a convenient base given its location inside Kruger.
There are eight safari tents at the camp, each featuring basic furnishings including twin beds, fans, bedside tables, and lamps. These safari tents are more spacious and comfortable than the standard dome tents used on camping tours. The tents are fitted with wooden flooring, power points, and electric blankets in winter, each with linen, towels, and bedding included. Big windows, fitted with mosquito netting, can be opened up to allow the breeze to drift in. Every safari tent also has a small, lamp-lit patio area with two camping chairs, for star gazing and relaxing outdoors.
This is an authentic, no-frills camp with a big lounge-dining tent and an open-air fire pit. The communal bathrooms (shared with Pretoriuskop Camp Grounds) are serviced daily, along with the safari tents. Guests have access to the facilities at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. These include a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, and shop. There is no WiFi but there is cell phone reception.
Our local safari guides are there to take care of guests and share their in-depth knowledge about the diverse flora, fauna, and habitats of Kruger National Park.
When booking this Kruger Safari, there is an option to upgrade accommodation to a hut or bungalow at the rest camp subject to availability and an additional cost. See the Full Pricing for details.
Kruger National Park is world-renowned for its superb game viewing and is one of Africa's largest and best game reserves. The most popular tourist destination in South Africa, the Kruger is home to several South African National Parks Board-managed camps.
These Kruger rest camps provide a safe haven for visitors to stay within the park and are securely fenced off to keep predators out. It is, however, possible to view wildlife from the perimeter of the rest camps, particularly at night when hyenas, monkeys, crocodiles, hippos, and more can be spotted, depending of course on which camp you are visiting.
Kruger rest camps range in size from basic campgrounds to small resorts with supermarkets, restaurants, swimming pools, petrol stations, and even golf courses.
Optional pre-tour and post-tour lodge accommodation in Johannesburg can be added to your safari booking (at extra cost) on request. The 4-star lodge accommodation is located 10-15 minutes from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
Transfers on this Kruger National Park Safari are conducted in a minibus (Quantum). The transfers from Johannesburg to Hazyview and back are in a shared transfer vehicle with 2 to 10 people. You will be collected and dropped off at OR Tambo International Airport or the pick-up point in Pretoria in these enclosed tour vehicles at the start and end of your safari.
During your stay at the Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in Kruger National Park, your game drives are conducted in open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles.
