Itinerary for this Tour

DAY 1: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park - South Africa

This morning you are picked up from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at about 07h00. From there you travel towards Kruger National Park in an air-conditioned shuttle. Along the way, we stop at the alternative pick-up point in Pretoria where guests are collected at 07h30.

The shuttle takes you to Hazyview, a small town near Kruger, where we arrive between 11h45 and 12h15. In Hazyview, we head to Perry's Bridge Trading Post has a deli, restaurant, and boutique shops. Here you can enjoy lunch (own account) or top up on snacks. Then your safari driver collects you and transfers you to Pretoriuskop Rest Camp inside Kruger National Park, about an hour's drive away.

Arriving at our tented camp you are welcomed by your experienced safari guide. After settling in, your qualified guide takes you on an exciting three-hour sunset game drive. Our first exhilarating 4x4 game drive in Kruger National Park ends back at our safari camp inside the park. The camp is fenced off to keep out large predators and dangerous game. Sit back and relax around the fire with drinks and enjoy dinner under the African night sky or at the camp’s restaurant.

  • Accommodation: Safari tent at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp

We explore the vast national park for eight to 10 hours, sighting an array of mammals, reptiles, birds, and small creatures. Kruger is famous for its excellent Big 5 sightings so keep your eyes open for lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant on your extensive game drive. We are also sure to spot a variety of the park’s other animals, and birds stopping at scenic picnic spots for comfort breaks.

At lunchtime, we pause at one of the well-equipped Kruger rest camps. Here we take a longer break and enjoy lunch at the camp restaurant or deli (own account). Then we continue our exploration of one of Africa's best game parks.

After a rewarding day out in the African bushveld, we drive back to our tented camp in Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. Spend the evening relaxing at the safari camp and enjoy dinner around the campfire or in the camp's restaurant.

Before we set off on our game drive you can join an optional morning bush walk with a SANParks ranger (at extra cost). This thrilling guided walk is a fantastic way to get a closer look at the bushveld and its inhabitants.

Home to multiple archaeological sites, and diverse plants, today's game drive reveals more of Kruger National Park as your qualified guide shares details and history of the beautiful sights. DAY 4: Panorama Route Day Tour - South Africa

Today’s Panorama Route day trip is an easy and relaxing tour with breathtaking highlights. After breakfast we leave Kruger National Park and travel to the third deepest canyon in the world, the Blyde River Canyon.

You’ll experience many exciting moments and our very knowledgeable local guides share fascinating insights along the way. The spectacular views will literally leave you speechless. The vastness of this magnificent escarpment makes you realize what the brochures try to describe. Viewpoints hang over cliffs that rise 600 to 800m from the riverbed below. Quite a few stops will be made to take in the views along the twenty-kilometer stretch. You can venture on various short walks along the precipices or if you feel more energetic you can do longer walks, taking you into the mountain rainforests. You will be delighted by numerous exotic birds, unusual flowering shrubs, and gushing waterfalls.

We will also be stopping off and walking at the following spots; Graskop Gorge, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Pinnacle, Lisbon Falls, and the Three Rondawels. Other stunning viewpoints will also be included, depending on the time available. After this feast of beautiful landscapes, we head back to our tented camp in Kruger National Park for dinner.

  • Included Activities: Panorama Route Day Tour
  • Included Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
  • Accommodation: Tent at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp
  • Optional Upgrade: Hut/Bungalow accommodation

As you drive your guide shares information about the indigenous trees, animals, birds, and the geology of this magnificent region.

Return to the safari camp to enjoy a relaxed breakfast before saying goodbye to your guide, freshening up, and making your way back to Perry's Bridge Trading Post in Hazyview. The air-conditioned shuttle collects you between 12h15 and 12h30 and transfers you back to Johannesburg. Arriving back in Johannesburg you are dropped off at the O.R. Tambo International Airport at about 18h00, bringing your Kruger & Panorama Route Tour adventure to a close.

Optional Kruger Bush Walk

An optional (extra cost) morning bush walk with one of the SANParks game rangers can be pre-booked on this Kruger Safari & Panorama Route Tour. The guided game walk must be pre-booked and is subject to availability and weather conditions. (See the Full Pricing Info above for details).

Panorama Route Day Tour

On day four we do a full-day Panorama Route Day Tour instead of a full-day game drive in Kruger Park. This is a visit to the third deepest canyon in the world, Blyde River Canyon, as well as other breathtaking places on the Panorama Route. The easy, relaxing day trip will have stops and walks at Graskop Gorge, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Pinnacle, Lisbon Falls, and the Three Rondavels among other places. Breakfast and dinner are included.

Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in Kruger National Park

On this Kruger Safari & Panorama Route Tour, we stay at the Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. The camp serves as a convenient base given its location inside Kruger.

There are eight safari tents at the camp, each featuring basic furnishings including twin beds, fans, bedside tables, and lamps. These safari tents are more spacious and comfortable than the standard dome tents used on camping tours. The tents are fitted with wooden flooring, power points, and electric blankets in winter, each with linen, towels, and bedding included. Big windows, fitted with mosquito netting, can be opened up to allow the breeze to drift in. Every safari tent also has a small, lamp-lit patio area with two camping chairs, for star gazing and relaxing outdoors.

This is an authentic, no-frills camp with a big lounge-dining tent and an open-air fire pit. The communal bathrooms (shared with Pretoriuskop Camp Grounds) are serviced daily, along with the safari tents. Guests have access to the facilities at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. These include a swimming pool, bar, restaurant, and shop. There is no WiFi but there is cell phone reception.

Our local safari guides are there to take care of guests and share their in-depth knowledge about the diverse flora, fauna, and habitats of Kruger National Park.

Kruger Accommodation Upgrade

When booking this Kruger & Panorama Route Tour, there is an option to upgrade accommodation to a hut or bungalow at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp subject to availability and an additional cost. See the Full Pricing above for details.

About Kruger National Park Rest Camps

Kruger National Park is world-renowned for its superb game viewing and is one of Africa's largest and best game reserves. The most popular tourist destination in South Africa, the Kruger is home to several South African National Parks Board-managed camps.

These Kruger rest camps provide a safe haven for visitors to stay within the park and are securely fenced off to keep predators out. It is, however, possible to view wildlife from the perimeter of the rest camps, particularly at night when hyenas, monkeys, crocodiles, hippos, and more can be spotted, depending of course on which camp you are visiting. Kruger rest camps range in size from basic campgrounds to small resorts with supermarkets, restaurants, swimming pools, petrol stations, and even golf courses.
