This Garden Route Safari will appeal not only to the adrenalin junky but to travellers who wish to experience some of the most majestic scenery available in South Africa. The Safari includes most of the top highlights on offer in the Garden Route and will visit some beautiful beaches and charming towns that give the Garden Route its distinct flavour. This exciting tour takes you game viewing in the Big Five Addo Elephant Park and also includes the scenic Route 62, Little Karoo, and Overberg mountains!
Join us on a 6 day South African Adventure mission to this magnificent part of the world.
Early on Monday morning we set off from the beautiful city of Cape Town travelling via Stellenbosch on the wine route to the coastal town of Hermanus. Following the Scenic Coastal road along the Atlantic Ocean we stop at Betties Bay to view the Colony of endangered African Penguins living there.
You can spend the afternoon exploring the seaside resort town of Hermanus, famous for the hundreds of Southern Right Whales visiting the area during the Whale season (July to November). Admire the pretty coast of Hermanus and visit the many shops, beaches, restaurants and Markets. Later in the afternoon we will drive on to the rocky Cape Agulhas (The most Southern Tip of Africa). We will visit a View Point at the most southern Tip of Africa also known as the “real” place where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. You will have plenty of time to admire the views and take a walk down to the longest white sand beach in the Southern Hemisphere. We overnight at a backpackers in the coastal village of Struisbaai, in the Overberg region of South Africa.
After breakfast we continue west along the coast of South Africa to the picturesque seaside village of Wilderness.
We will stop for lunch in Mossel Bay and spend some time relaxing on the stunning Garden Route beaches. There is also time to hike the Cape St Blaize hiking trail along the cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean and visit the famous Diaz Museum Complex. For those looking for more adventure you can try a 10 000 feet Tandem Skydive or Sand Boarding on the highest Dune in South Africa. In the late afternoon we take a leisurely walk through Wilderness Village and on Wilderness beach or simply relax with a beer overlooking Wilderness beach. Overnight at a backpackers overlooking the sea near Wilderness.
After breakfast admiring the view of Wilderness beach we drive to the Touw River Waterfall in Wilderness National Park where we will enjoy some canoeing. We paddle up the Touw River through the indigenous forest, keeping an eye out for the abundance of birdlife. After about 40 minutes of easy paddling we leave the canoes behind and take a 2km hike along a boardwalk to the waterfall, where you will be able to unwind and take in the sounds of nature.
After our canoeing adventure we will head to the famous town of Knysna via the spectacular Lake District of the Garden Route. In this up-market little town filled with curios, restaurants and a waterfront you will be able to browse and do some shopping. From the town of Knysna we make our way to the Knysna Heads view-point offering some fantastic views over Knysna River estuary and the Indian Ocean. Later in the afternoon you can explore the charming town of Plettenberg Bay with its spectacular views and welcoming beaches. We stay at a centrally located backpackers overlooking Plettenberg Bay.
Today we visit Tsitsikamma National Park after breakfast, stopping at Bloukrans Bridge along the way. At Bloukrans we have time to view the world’s highest bungee jump bridge (216 meters) and the adventure seekers among you can even test your courage by taking the plunge.
We spend the afternoon in the Tsitsikamma Park with its unique combination of indigenous forests and the rugged Indian Ocean coastline. The area offers a wide choice of activities for all, including long and short hikes, crossing the suspension bridge and swimming. In the late afternoon we leave the charming Garden Route for the Big 5 Country of Addo Park, where we will stay overnight.
On day 5 we spend the morning exploring Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Our 4-5 hour Addo game drive takes us in search of the Big Five and other wildlife found in this 28 000 hectare National reserve. Addo Park is home to 450 elephant as well as Cape buffalo, lion, Black Rhino, Wart Hog, Zebra, Eland, Koedoe, Hartbeest and many more wild animals.
After an exciting morning of Game Viewing in Addo we drive back to the heart of the Garden Route to our overnight backpackers where we have sundowners overlooking the spectacular Myoly Beach in Sedgefield.
The day starts off with breakfast before we drive inland over the spectacular Outeniqua Mountain pass to Oudtshoorn. The town of Oudtshoorn, located in the Little Karoo region, is also known as the Ostrich Capital of the World.
Here we experience the subterranean beauty of the Cango Caves on a guided adventure tour, followed by a visit to the Cango Ostrich Show farm for a guided tour of the ostrich farm. The more adventurous can even ride an ostrich. (maximum weight of 75 kg). In the afternoon we drive back to Cape Town via the scenic Route 62, South Africa’s longest wine route. We arrive back in the quaint town of Stellenbosch and then Cape Town in the early evening bringing South Africa's Garden Route Adventure Safari to a close.
The vehicles used on the South Africa's Garden Route Adventure Safari are fully air conditioned and can comfortably seat 8 adults including the driver/guide or 14 Adults including the Driver/guide. The tour vehicles also have a CD and Mp3 players so you can listen to music in the bus.
All vehicles have valid Operating Licences to transport paying customers.
All the accommodation on this Garden Route Adventure Tour has been selected over many years for its cleanliness, unique setting, closeness to nature and great atmosphere whilst remembering the need for home comforts.
Accommodation on the Garden Route Tour is at backpackers in dormitory rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Upgrades to single and double Backpacker rooms with shared Bathroom facilities and Upgrades to Backpacker rooms with en-suite bathrooms are available. Guest House upgrades to Single, Double or twin en-suite rooms are also available at an additional cost. All bedding and towels will be provided on the Garden Route Safari.
All meals on the Garden Route Tour have been carefully selected and include traditional South African meals. Breakfast would normally be a combination of healthy continental breakfast with fruits, cereals, yoghurt and toast or cooked breakfasts. Please inform us of any special dietary requirements when booking your tour.
