We have a great selection of Family Overland Tours of Southern and East Africa that have been specially designed with children in mind. We combine some of Africa's premier wilderness regions with plenty of adventure activities to ensure your children have a trip of a lifetime! There is nothing quite as special as watching your children view the sights and sounds of Africa for the first time!
The majority of Family Overland Safaris are camping Safaris conducted in an Overland Truck. These Safaris have the same characteristics as a traditional Overland camping Safari where you will spend most of your nights in two man dome tents under the African Stars.
The one exception is the 10 day Best of Botswana Family Safari where the Safari is conducted as a mobile camping safari in 4x4 Landcruisers. This is a more upmarket family safari and will involve bush camping with the aid of a support vehicle that will go ahead and set up camp in some very remote areas of Botswana. This is an ideal option for clients wanting to get deep into the African Bush with a small group. The level of participation is minimal and the pace of the Safari is relaxed.
All the other Family Overland Safaris are active participation safaris meaning each member of the family will be expected to help out with the day to day running of the Safari. This is mainly restricted to the campsite and will involve putting up your own tent and assisting the cook on a roster basis with the meals. It is our experience that the teamwork required is a great way for families to bond, and the children love it!
It is important to note that the distances between locations are far shorter than the distances covered in a Traditional Overland Tour. The reason for this is to minimise the travel time the children have to spend on the truck, which means happy children!
There is no greater Adventure for children than to travel with other children to new and exciting places in Africa with some of the most amazing scenery, exotic cultures and wildlife on offer. If you have children and are looking to travel in Africa without the hassle of having to arrange the trip yourself then a Family Overland Tour is a perfect solution.
The minimum age for Family Overland Tours is 6 years of age.
